A Study on Torque Rich Phenomena in Ship Operation

The ＂torque rich＂ is known as a phenomenon that makes reduction of ship speed, overload for main engine and higher fuel consumption of ship, even can cause some major problems for a ship propulsion system. In Vietnam, according to investigated results, almost ships of country merchant fleet are facing with ship speed decrease, fuel consumption increase due to the torque rich, consequently the average ship operation cost is increasing from 15% to 25%, even higher in some cases and the environment is badly impacted. To comply with the international requirements and national legislation regarding to ＂using efficiently energy and environment protection＂, Vietnamese shipping companies must combat with the torque rich problem as crucial reason making downgrade in ship operation. The article shows a potential method to reduce the torque rich phenomena by modifying propeller which has been successfully applied for a real ship in Vietnam.

The underfloor air distribution(UFAD)system has not been able to penetrate the residential and commercial air conditioning industry significantly until *** date,the most notable applications are found in datacenters because of their more demanding thermal stratification and cooling *** addition to highlighting the advantages of the UFAD system over the traditional overhead(OH)system,this study compares various ventilation layouts for a UFAD *** different UFAD ventilation layouts are compared and one OH *** results show that using multiple swirl-type diffusers creates a more uniform floor-to-knee temperature and less air recirculation than the rectangular grille-type *** the return vents on the sides of the room creates a cooler environment by isolating recirculating air to a smaller *** the end of the study,a design guide matrix is presented to summarize how the supply and return vent layout affects air conditioning performance.

The climate change and limitation of natural resources becomes main obstacle for the global economical development. So, the Vietnamese Government is very much concerned with reduction of harmful gas discharging from the inland-water way ships. To overcome the problems, there are many counter-measures proposed such as： renovation of machinery and equipment, using re-creative energy and so on. The author＇s idea is to find a suitable method which can be applied on board of the inland-water ships to reduce discharging toxic gas by using blended palm oil as alternative fuel for marine diesel engines. Due to some disadvantages of the bended palm oil in comparison with traditional DO （diesel oil）, such as： low freezing point, high viscosity, low stability of blended fue, therefore somehow, the blended palm oil must be made a ship directly on board. With this idea, the author has designed and made agitate mixing equipment working on-line with fuel supply system of a diesel engine. The mixing equipment, then, has been tested at shore-side laboratory as well as on board ships. The research results showed that the fuel mixture （palm oil-DO） made by this mixing equipment is fully usable to replace traditional DO for marine diesel engines installed on board ships of inland water way in Vietnam. The Vietnamese Government accepted the research results as prerequisite to devise specific and practical action plans to reduce the pollution from the inland water way ships in coming years.

To use the renewable fuels for marine field is still very limited due to the need of newly developed technology, highly requested safety （for gas fuel） and high price of biodiesel. Therefore, with some advantages, such as： simple producing process, reasonable price and simple modification technology needed, the blended SVO （straight vegetable oil） is recommended as suitable fuel for the marine application. even though, there are some disadvantages of the blended SVO, such as a weak stability, layer separation in low temperature and some others. In order to apply the blended SVO as alternative fuel for marine diesel engines without the mentioned disadvantages, the paper will introduce a method to design and produce a fuel continuous mixer to make a blended SVO （palm oil）.

Spontaneous elimination of hepatitis C virus infection: A retrospective study on demographic, clinical, and serological correlates

To find correlates to spontaneous clearance of hepatitis C virus （HCV） infection, this study compared individuals with self-limited and chronic infection with regard to clinical, demographic, and serological pa- rameters. MeTHODS： Sixty-seven anti-HCV positive and repeatedly HCV RNA negative individuals were considered to have resolved HCV infection spontaneously. To determine the viral genotype these patients had been infected with HCV serotyping was performed. For comparison reasons, 62 consecutive patients with chronic hepatitis C were enrolled. Cases and controls were compared stratified for age and sex. ReSULTS： Retrospective analysis showed （1） a lower humoral reactivity to HCV in patients with self-limited compared to chronic HCV-infection and （2） that younger age, history of iv drug use, and acute/post-acute hepatitis A or B co-infections, but not viral genotypes, are independent correlates for spontaneous HCV clearance. CONCLUSION： The stronger humoral reactivity to HCV in patients with persistent infections and in those with a history of iv drug use is supposed to be due to continuous or repeated contact（s） to the antigen. Metachronous hepatitis A or hepatitis B infections might favor HCV clearance.

Whereas a rich literature exists for estimating population genetic divergence, metrics of phenotypic trait divergence are lacking, particularly for comparing multiple traits among three or more populations. Here, we review and analyze via simula- tion Hedges＇ g, a widely used parametric estimate of effect size. Our analyses indicate that g is sensitive to a combination of unequal trait variances and unequal sample sizes among populations and to changes in the scale of measurement. We then go on to derive and explain a new, non-parametric distance measure, ＇Aft＇, which is caiculated based upon a joint cumulative distribution function （CDF） from all populations under study. More precisely, distances are measured in terms of the percentiles in this CDF at which each population＇s median lies. Ap combines many desirable features of other distance metrics into a single metric; namely, compared to other metrics, p is relatively insensitive to unequal variances and sample sizes among the populations sam- pied. Furthermore, a key feature of Ap--and our main motivation for developing it--is that it easily accommodates simultaneous comparisons of any number of traits across any number of populations. To exemplify its utility, we employ Ap to address a ques- tion related to the role of sexual selection in speciation： are sexual signals more divergent than ecological traits in closely related taxa？ Using traits of known function in closely related populations, we show that traits predictive of reproductive performance are indeed, more divergent and more sexually dimorphic than traits related to ecological adaptation [Current Zoology 58 （3）： 426-439 2012].

在轴压或压弯作用下,对不锈钢管混凝土短柱和细长柱的性能进行一系列试验研究,并与短钢管柱试验对比。结果表明:组合柱的性能很好,可广泛用作结构构件。将试验结果与传统碳素钢管混凝土柱的现有设计规范对比,如澳大利亚规范AS5100(2004),美国规范AISC(2005),中国规范DBJ/T13-51-2010和欧洲规范eurocode4(2004)。结果表明:这些规范在预测短柱和细长柱的承载力方面都比较保守。
