The idea of using ultrashort X-ray pulses to obtain images of single proteins frozen in time has fascinated and inspired *** was one of the arguments for building X-ray free-electron *** to theory,the extremely intense pulses provide sufficient signal to dispense with using crystals as an amplifier,and the ultrashort pulse duration permits capturing the diffraction data before the sample inevitably *** was first demonstrated on biological samples a decade ago on the giant *** then,a large collaboration has been pushing the limit of the smallest sample that can be *** ability to capture snapshots on the timescale of atomic vibrations,while keeping the sample at room temperature,may allow probing the entire conformational phase space of *** we show the first observation of an X-ray diffraction pattern from a single protein,that of Escherichia coli GroEL which at 14 nm in diameter is the smallest biological sample ever imaged by X-rays,and demonstrate that the concept of diffraction before destruction extends to single *** the pattern,it is possible to determine the approximate orientation of the *** experiment demonstrates the feasibility of ultrafast imaging of single proteins,opening the way to single-molecule time-resolved studies on the femtosecond timescale.

Thermal energy storage(TES)is a key technology for renewable energy utilization and the improvement of the energy efficiency of heat *** include industrial process heat and conventional and renewable power *** systems correct the mismatch between supply and demand of thermal *** the medium to high temperature range(100~1000℃),only limited storage technology is commercially available and a strong effort is needed to develop a range of storage technologies which are efficient and economical for the very specific requirements of the different application *** the DLR's Institute of Technical Thermodynamics,the complete spectrum of high temperature storage technologies,from various types of sensible over latent heat to thermochemical heat storages are being *** concepts are proposed depending on the heat transfer fluid(synthetic oil,water/steam,molten salt,air)and the required temperature *** aim is the development of cost effective,efficient and reliable thermal storage *** focuses on characterization of storage materials,enhancement of internal heat transfer,design of innovative storage concepts and modelling of storage components and *** of the storage technology takes place from laboratory scale to field testing(5 kW^1 MW).The paper gives an overview on DLR's current developments.

格罗夫山沉积岩漂砾是东南极兰伯特冰川活动所遗留下来的新生代沉积物,因而是研究东南极冰盖历史演化的直接证据。格罗夫山沉积岩漂砾所含孢粉非常稀少,其孢粉组合特征以低丰富度草本植物花粉为主,伴有少量其它被子植物和藻类孢子。虽然孢粉的种类和数量不足以重建原始的植物群落,但至少可以为晚新生代南极大陆古植被提供信息。暗示草本-苔原植被或许发育,气候类似于现今温凉-寒冷的亚南极地区。格罗夫山沉积岩漂砾中稀有的陆相孢粉可能是由于沉积时期周围陆地稀有的边缘植被产生的,也可能由于快速沉积稀释的结果。

在市區進行夜間隧道鑽挖工程所產生的土傳噪音及震動,容易引起投訴。現時的技術難以準確預測噪音及震動的級數,而隧道工程的進度也常因進行隧道鑽挖工程時產生過大的土傳噪音及震動而延誤。本文所提述的新技術,可以更準確地量度及預測鑽機震動強度及土壤傳震的特性@個技術包括測量單位衝擊力及隧道鑽機摩擦力所產生的震動級數鋵嵲珈?80於代,美國政府運輸部門(***)已研發相關的技術,並將該技術應用於鐵路土傳噪音量度及預測上。本文報告隧道鑽機所產生的土傳噪音及震動級數1/3倍頻帶數值的量度及預測。比較地面震動峰值速度(PPV)、最高(Lmax)噪聲和振動級數按快速和緩慢的時間常數和整體百分比(Percentile)數值列出。

Terrestrial palynomorphs from the glaciomarine Pagodroma Group provide the first stratigraphically-constrained record of Cenozoic terrestrial vegetation for the northern Prince Charles Mountains, East Antarctica. In general, contemporaneous spores and pollen are extremely sparse, but palynological assemblages of the late middle–late Miocene Fisher Bench Formation and Battye Glacier Formation have relatively more abundant Cenozoic spores and pollen compared with those of the Oligocene Mount Johnston Formation and the Pliocene–early Pleistocene Bardin Bluffs Formation. Spore-pollen assemblages from the Battye Glacier Formation and the Fisher Bench Formation are dominated by Chenopodipollis, with a few other accessory angiosperm and podocarp pollen, pteridophyte and bryophyte spores, and algal cysts, reflecting a low diversity herb-tundra vegetation and a climate similar to the present-day cool to cold sub-Antarctic regions. Reworked Permian–Triassic miospores in Amery oasis(unofficial name)sediments probably indicate local provenance from the Amery Group but Jurassic–Cretaceous and possible early Cenozoic miospores reflect an unknown source.

在多发性硬化(MS)斑块的组成细胞类型中,星形胶质细胞被认为在其发病机理中起很小的作用。传统认为,星形胶质细胞间接导致瘢痕形成,在病变形成或修复中几乎不起作用。然而,近来对脱髓鞘性视神经脊髓炎(NMO)的高度关注发现,抗水通道蛋白-4的体液免疫反应引起的星形胶质细胞原发性损害,导致NMO首次被证实为髓鞘性疾病。NMO这一发现促使我们重新审视活动性损害的MS患者的数据和资料。我们的重新评估清楚显示血管周围星形胶质细胞终足和邻近脑实质星形胶质细胞的早期损伤,但难以评估这种损伤是否为急性损伤时伴发的脑水肿和炎症的主要原因。由于恢复中病灶显示髓鞘再生,以及覆盖在血管周围的星形胶质细胞的完整性存在缺陷,星形胶质细胞的损害持续时间长。本研究和相关文献均发现,星形胶质细胞在MS变化发展中所起复杂作用取决于病变时期和病变地形的变化。与星形胶质细胞的抑制性作用不同的是,越来越多的充足证据表明,星形胶质细胞积极参与病变的发展与修复。我们建议,因星形胶质细胞在MS病变中明确的早期选择性作用,星形胶质细胞也许可作为MS治疗的切入点。
