Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Cancer Patients: Experience of the medical oncology department of CHU HASSAN II Fez.

Introduction: In December 2019, COVID 19 spread worldwide, but did not officially start in MOROCCO until March 02, 2020. Since then, this pandemic has significantly impacted the health status of patients in general and cancer patients in particular. The main objective of our study is to evaluate the prognosis of patients treated for cancer and infected with COVID-19. Material and method: A descriptive study with prospective collection was carried out at the medical oncology department of CHU Hassan II in FEZ over a period of two years, from March 2020 to March 2022. Data was carried out on the software SPSS. Results: One hundred cancer patients tested positive for COVID-19 infection and were collected within our department. The average age was 56 years [22-91]. The sex ratio was 1.2. Patients with breast cancer were the most affected by this infection (34%). The clinical symptomatology was dominated by the respiratory syndrome (45%).The diagnosis was made through thoracic CT scan in 62% of cases. 76% of patients were in a metastatic stage. 96% of patients were undergoing oncological treatment. For symptomatique patients, the standard treatment approach involved using antibiotics in 76% of cases. Evolution was marked by recovery in 79% of patients, with a death rate of 12% in this cancer patient population. Conclusion: COVID-19 infection is particularly severe in cancer patients. Mortality among these patients remains high and is associated with overall patient characteristics. However, anticancer treatments have not shown deleterious effects on the course of COVID-19.

Introduction: Ramadan is the ninth lunar month of the Muslim calendar, and fasting during Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam. Muslim cancer patients and health professionals are faced with a dilemma between the necessity of fasting and its possible adverse effects during Ramadan on the health status of cancer patients. We believe that addressing the issue of fasting in cancer patients is of global interest. Objectives: Prevalence of fasting in cancer patients during Ramadan;Predictive factors of Ramadan fasting in cancer patients;The effect of fasting during Ramadan on the quality of life of cancer patients. Materials and Methods: A structured questionnaire was used to interview adult cancer patients who received chemotherapy IV—or oral treatment at the medical oncology department at the Hassan II University Hospital in Fez during the month of Ramadan 1443 Hijri (April to May 2022). The quality of cancer patients’ lives during their fasting practice in Ramadan was evaluated via the QLQ-C30 questionnaires. Results: 48% of patients did not fast during Ramadan, 22% and 30% were partial and complete fasters respectively. Patients, with OMS 0 to 1, who receive outpatient treatment, non-metastatic patients and patients on oral treatment were more frequent in the completely fasted group. All these factors showed statistically significant values (p < 0.05). 44% of patients sought advice from the treating oncologist if they could fast, while only 15% of patients during Ramadan asked an imam if they could be excused from fasting. A comparison of the QLQ-C30 data showed a significant improvement in emotional functioning with fasting, however, patients had clinically more but not significantly fatigue after fasting. Conclusion: Female gender, good WHO, non-metastatic disease, and oral or outpatient treatment were more likely to be fasting. This study argues that fasting did not influence the quality of life, and appears to significantly improve emotional functioning in

The present work aimed to investigate the electrochemical properties of ITO substrates in propylene carbonate(PC) with 0.5 mol/L lithium perchlorate(LiClO_(4)) medium in the presence of elaborated thin films of cerium dioxide pure and doped with manganese at varying ***_(1-x)Mn_(x)O_(2)(x=0 wt%,2 wt%,4 wt% and 6 wt%) were successfully deposited by the spray pyrolysis(SP) technique on the glass substrate and ITO at 450℃.The effects of manganese(Mn) doped thin films Ce_(1-x)Mn_(x)O_(2) were studied and investigated by using different analyses namely X-ray diffraction(XRD) analysis,Raman spectroscopy method,UV-Vis spectrophotometer technique,atomic force microscopy(AFM) analysis and electrochemical *** data obtained present a polycrystalline with a face-centred cubic structure of fluorite *** results of undoped and Mn doped thin films show two peaks at 465 and 600 cm^(-1),due to the formation of extrinsic oxygen vacancies by the incorporation of Mn into Ce1-xMnxO_(2) *** dispersive spectroscopy(EDS) data show the presence of Ce,O,and Mn elements in the elaborated *** AFM results reveal that the surface roughness decreases with increasing Mn ***,band gap energy of thin films decreases with increasing in Mn rate due to the formation of defect state between valence and conduction *** storage capacity of the elaborated Ce_(1-x)Mn_(x)O_(2)/ITO/PC+LiClO_(4) electrode reaches a maximum of 1.997 mF in the presence of 6 wt% of Mn.

A detailed mathematical procedure of the optimization of the fluid flow in a tundish water model with and without flow control devices （weir and dam） was carried out using the commercial CFD eode FLUENT 6.0. The （k- ε） two-equation model was used to model turbulence. The residence time distribution （RTD） curves were used to analyze the behavior of the flow in tundish. The location of flow control devices in the tundish was studied. The results show that the flow modifiers play an important role in promoting the floatation of nonmetallic inclusions in steel. Comparing the three geometric configurations that are considered （bare tundish, weir, weir＋dam）, the tundish equipped with the arrangement （weir＋dam） is a best and optimal geometric configuration of tundish.

Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)is an infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),declared as a pandemic due to its rapid *** this study,we investigate the genetic diversity and genomic epidemiology of SARS-CoV-2,using 22 virus genome sequences reported by three different laboratories in Morocco till June 7,2020,as well as 40,366 virus genomes from all around the *** SARSCoV-2 genomes from Moroccan patients revealed 62 mutations,of which 30weremis-sense *** Spike_D614G and NSP12_P323L were present in all the 22 analyzed sequences,followed by N_G204R and N_R203K,which occurred in 9 among the 22 *** mutations NSP10_R134S,NSP15_D335N,NSP16_I169L,NSP3_L431H,NSP3_P1292L and Spike_V6F occurred once in Moroccan sequences,with no record in other sequences *** analyses revealed that Moroccan SARS-CoV-2 genomes included 9 viruses belonging to Clade 20A,9 to Clade 20B and 2 to Clade 20C,suggesting that the epidemic spread inMorocco did not display a predominant SARS-CoV-2 ***,multiple and unrelated introductions of SARS-CoV-2 into Morocco through different routes have occurred,giving rise to the diversity of virus genomes in the ***,in all probability,the SARS-CoV-2 circulated in a cryptic way inMorocco,starting fromJanuary 15,2020 before the first case was officially discovered on March 2,2020.

The pressure broadening in the far wings, where the sodium Na(3 p ← 3 s) resonance line is perturbed by ground lithium Li(2 s) atoms, has been theoretically analyzed. The NaLi potential–energy curves and the transition dipole moments are constructed by using a reliable ab initio data points to carry out the reduced-absorption coefficients k_r(ν, T). This quantum-mechanical investigation have demonstrated that the NaLi profile spectra show a satellite future in the red wing at wavelength λ = 685 nm in the temperature range 4000 K–1.8 × 10~4 K. The computation could also exhibit a second satellite, in the blue wing, near the wavelength λ = 574 nm beyond 6000 K and a third peak located at λ = 490 nm which begins to appear at 1.8 × 10~4 K.

Problem Statement: Surface Water Treatment for potable supplies typically involves coagulation, flocculation, and processes. All water treatment plants produce sludge, during the purification of raw water, according to the level of the water turbidity. The aluminum sulfate is the most common coagulant used in water treatment plants of Morocco, as well as in many countries all over the world. It is difficult to manage sludge produced by the treatment plant. However, several studies, based on a set of jar test experiments, have demonstrated that it can be used in the process to improve the quality of the treated water and reduce the aluminum sulfate dose. Approach: In this study, the raw water treated and sludge produced in water treatment plant of Meknes, Morocco are investigated for chemical and bacteriological proprieties. The texture characterization of the dried sludge produced through the process of coagulation/flocculation and that of aluminum sulfate, used as coagulant aid, are obtained by nitrogen adsorption isotherms. Results: The physical properties of the raw water indicate its high turbidity during periods of heavy rainfall in the Bittit and Ribaa springs catchment area. However, these chemical properties indicate the quality of fresh water rich in magnesium, related to the dolomitic nature of the liastic aquifer. The bacteriological analysis of sludge produced in the treatment plant, confirms the elimination of pathogenic germs by the treatment process used. As regards the texture characterization the results demonstrated that the sludge presents some similarities with the sulfate. However, a clear difference is observed between the two solids, according to the pores distribution. Conclusions/Recommendations: Taking aluminum sulfate and sludge in comparison, it is possible to use the sludge for improving the coagulation process in water treatment.
