Understanding aerosol-vegetation interactions is vital in ***,the interactions remain elusive partly due to the lack of suitable plant growth chamber ***,deposition of submicron particles on leaf surfaces is challenging due to its low deposition velocities compared to larger *** this work,we present a plant-growth chamber that was used to study the effect of sub-micron black carbon(BC)particles on the growth and photosynthesis of *** chamber system simultaneously enables the growth of multiple plants in pots and the deposition of submicron particles onto *** spraying methods assisted by ultrasonic and electrostatic forces were employed as aerosol generators to realize the particle *** flow regime inside the chamber was numeri-cally calculated to predict the transportation of aerosol particles,suggesting the optimal operating conditions of the *** gas-phase particle size distribution measurements showed that gener-ated BC particles were suspended in submicron diameter *** aerosol generators were examined in the chamber using three conductor and insulator substrates as a model of plant *** observations and spectroscopic analysis ascertained that submicron BC particles generated from our generators were deposited on all substrate *** the developed chamber system,systematic studies can be performed to advance the fundamental understanding of aerosol-vegetation interactions.

Exosomes,the smallest extracellular vesicles,have gained significant attention as key mediators in intercellular communication,influencing both physiological and pathological processes,particularly in cancer progression.A recent review article by Wang et al was published in a timely manner to stimulate future research and facilitate practical developments for targeted treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma using exosomes,with a focus on the origin from which exosomes *** information about the mechanisms for delivering exosomes to specific cells is incorporated,the concept of targeted therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma using exosomes could be more comprehensively understood.

Zn Dissolution-Passivation Behavior with ZnO Formation via in Situ Characterizations

in this study,ZnO formation during the dissolution-passivation process of Zn anodes is observed via in situ Raman and optical *** Zn passivation during galvanostatic anodization merely follows the dissolution-precipitation model,whereas that of potentiodynamic polarization exhibits different behaviors in different potential ***,the Zn electrode is gradually covered by a ZnO precipitation film and then undergoes solid-state oxidation at~255 *** starting point of solid-state oxidation is well indicated by the abrupt current drop and yellow coloration of the electrode *** the pseudo passivation,an intense current oscillation is ***,blink-like color changes between yellow and dark blue are revealed for the first time,implying that the oscillation is caused by the dynamic adsorption and desorption of OH *** as-formed ZnOs then experience a dissolution-reformation evolution,during which the crystallinity of the primary ZnO film is improved but the solid-state-formed ZnO layer becomes rich in oxygen ***,oxide densification is realized,contributing to the Zn *** study provides new insights into the Zn dissolution-passivation behavior,which is critical for the future optimization of Zn batteries.

Method to measure tree-ring width,density,elemental composition,and stable carbon and oxygen isotopes using one sample

Tree-ring width(RW),density,elemental com-position,and stable carbon and oxygen isotope(δ^(13)C,δ^(18)O)are widely used as proxies to assess climate change,ecology,and environmental pollution;however,a specific pretreat-ment has been needed for each ***,we developed a method by which each proxy can be measured in the same ***,the sample is polished for ring width *** obtaining the ring width data,the sample is cut to form a 1-mm-thick wood *** sample is then mounted in a vertical sample holder,and gradually scanned by an X-ray ***,the count rates of the fluorescent photons of elements(for chemical characteriza-tion)and a radiographic grayscale image(for wood density)are obtained,*** density and the element content are ***,cellulose is isolated from the 1-mm wood plate by removal of lignin,and *** producing this cellulose plate,cellulose subsamples are separated by knife under the microscope for inter-annual and intra-annual stable carbon and oxygen isotope(δ^(13)C,δ^(18)O)*** on this method,RW,density,elemental composition,δ^(13)C,and δ^(18)O can be measured from the same sample,which reduces sample amount and treatment time,and is helpful for multi-proxy comparison and combination research.

Cell adhesion plays pivotal roles in the morphogenesis of multicellular *** cells form several types of cell-to-cell adhesion,including zonula occludens(tight junctions),zonula adhaerens(adherens junctions),and macula adhaerens(desmosomes).Although these adhesion complexes are basically observed only in epithelial cells,cadherins,which are the major cell adhesion molecules of adherens junctions,are expressed in both epithelial and non-epithelial tissues,including neural tissues(Kawauchi,2012).The cadherin superfamily consists of more than 100 members,but classic cadherins.

Using fracture-based continuum modeling of coupled geomechanical-hydrological processes for numerical simulation of hydraulic fracturing

This paper describes numerical simulation of hydraulic fracturing using fracture-based continuum modeling(FBCM)of coupled geomechanical-hydrological processes to evaluate a technique for high-density fracturing and fracture *** simulations are innovative because of modeling discrete fractures explicitly in continuum analysis.A key advantage of FBCM is that fracture initiation and propagation are modeled explicitly without changing the domain grid(*** re-meshing).Further,multiple realizations of a preexisting fracture distribution can be analyzed using the same domain *** simulated hydraulic fracturing technique consists of pressurizing multiple wells simultaneously:initially without permeating fluids into the rock,to seed fractures uniformly and at high density in the wall rock of the wells;followed by fluid injection to propagate the seeded fracture density *** combines the ease of continuum modeling with the potential accuracy of modeling discrete fractures and fracturing *** are modeled as piecewise planar based on intersections with domain elements;fracture geometry stored as continuum properties is used to calculate parameters needed to model individual fractures;and rock behavior is modeled through tensorial aggregation of the behavior of discrete fractures and unfractured *** are presented for previously unfractured rock and for rock with preexisting fractures of horizontal,shallow-dipping,steeply dipping,or vertical *** of a single-well model are used to determine the pattern and spacing for a multiple-well *** results illustrate high-density fracturing and fracture caging through simultaneous fluid injection in multiple wells:for previously unfractured rock or rock with preexisting shallow-dipping or horizontal fractures,and in situ vertical compressive stress greater than *** preexisting fractures are steeply dipping or vertical,and considering the same in situ

Propensity score matching analysis for clinical impact of braided-type versus laser-cut-type covered self-expandable metal stents for endoscopic ultrasound-guided hepaticogastrostomy

Background:To prevent stent migration during endoscopic ultrasound-guided hepaticogastrostomy(EUS-HGS),intra-scope channel release technique is important,but is unfamiliar to non-expert *** self-expandable metal stent(SEMS)is an additional factor to prevent stent ***,no compara-tive studies of laser-cut-type and braided-type during EUS-HGS have been *** aim of this study was to compare the distance between the intrahepatic bile duct and stomach wall after EUS-HGS among laser-cut-type and braided-type ***:To evaluate stent anchoring function,we measured the distance between the hepatic parenchyma and stomach wall before EUS-HGS,one day after EUS-HGS,and 7 days after ***,propensity score matching was performed to create a propensity score for using laser-cut-type group and braided-type ***:A total of 142 patients were enrolled in this *** them,24 patients underwent EUS-HGS using a laser-cut-type SEMS,and 118 patients underwent EUS-HGS using a braided-type ***-HGS using the laser-cut-type SEMS was mainly performed by non-expert endoscopists(n=21);EUS-HGS using braided-type SEMS was mainly performed by expert endoscopists(n=98).The distance after 1 day was significantly shorter in the laser-cut-type group than that in the braided-type group[2.00(1.70-3.75)vs.6.90(3.72-11.70)mm,Pin addition,this distance remained significantly shorter in the laser-cut-type group after 7 *** these results were similar after propensity score matching analysis,the distance between hepatic parenchyma and stomach after 7 days was increased by 4 mm compared with the distance after 1 day in the braided-type *** the other hand,in the laser-cut-type group,the distance after 1 day and 7 days was almost the ***:EUS-HGS using a laser-cut-type SEMS may be safe to prevent stent migration,even in non-expert hands.

The g-factor measurement as an ultimate test for nuclear chirality

We present results of a series of experiments aimed at finding the most direct fingerprints of a phenomenon of nuclear chirality. These experiments brought a detailed knowledge of the so called partner bands in 132La, 128Cs and 126Cs including absolute values of E2 and M1 transition probabilities obtained through the DSA (Doppler Shift Attenuation) method. Considering the indirect character of observables such as energies and transition rates we proposed measurement of the g-factor of a chosen state as a direct, ultimate test of chirality. Our experiment on the bandhead of partner bands in 128Cs showed feasibility of this approach. Measured value of the g-factor which suggests non-chiral character of this state leads to another puzzle in the chirality studies — how the chirality emerges with increasing spin of levels along a partner band.

BACKGROUND High-grade pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia(PaniN)exhibits no mass and is not detected by any examination ***,it can be diagnosed by pancreatic juice cytology from indirect *** previous cases were diagnosed based on findings of a focal stricture of the main pancreatic duct(MPD)and caudal MPD dilatation and subsequent pancreatic juice cytology using endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP).We experienced a case of high-grade PaniN with an unclear MPD over a 20-mm range,but without caudal MPD dilatation on magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography(MRCP).CASE SUMMARY A 60-year-old female patient underwent computed tomography for a follow-up of uterine cancer post-excision,which revealed pancreatic *** revealed an unclear MPD of the pancreatic body at a 20-mm length without caudal MPD ***,course observation was *** 24 mo,MRCP revealed an increased caudal MPD caliber and a larger pancreatic *** performed ERCP and detected atypical cells suspected of adenocarcinoma by serial pancreatic juice aspiration cytology *** performed a distal pancreatectomy and obtained a histopathological diagnosis of high-grade *** parenchyma invasion was not observed,and curative resection was *** High-grade Pan-iN may cause MPD narrowing in a long range without caudal MPD dilatation.
