SCR/SP11 encodes the male determinant of recognition specificity of self-incompatibility(SI)in Brassica species and is sporophytically expressed in the anther *** on dominance relationships in pollen and nucleotide sequence similarity,the S haplotypes in Brassica have been classified as class I or class II,with class-I S haplotypes being dominant over class-II S ***,we revealed that S-22 in *** belonging to class I is recessive to class-II S-44 and class-I S-36 in pollen,whereas it is dominant over S-60,S-40,and S-29 based on pollination ***/SP11 of S-22(SCR-22)was sequenced,revealing that the deduced amino-acid sequence of SCR-22 has the longest C-terminal domain among the SCR/SP11 *** expression of SCR-22 was found to be suppressed in S-22/S-44 and S-22/S-36 *** transcription of SCR-44 was considered to be due to the transcription suppression of Smi sRNA of the S-22 haplotype and a very low methylation state of the SCR-44 promoter region in the tapetum of S-22/S-44 *** SCR-22,only the cytosine residue located at the–37 bp position of the promoter region was hypermethylated in the tapetum of S-22/S-44 heterozygotes,and few methylated cytosines were detected in the promoter and coding regions of SCR-22 in S-22/S-36 ***-22 was also expressed in microspores in S-22 homozygotes but not in S-22/S-44 and S-22/S-36 *** results suggest that a mechanism different from class-II SCR/SP11 suppression may operate for the suppression of recessive class-I SCR-22 in S heterozygotes.

We report a case of pericarditis and chronic inflam- matory demyelinating polyneuropathy with biological signs of a lupus-like syndrome due to pegylated interferon alfa-2a therapy during treatment for chronic hepatitis *** patient developed moderate weakness in the lower limbs and *** was hospitalized for congestive heart *** electrocardiogram showed gradual ST-segment elevation in leads V1 through V6 without coronary artery disease.A transthoracic cardiac ultrasonographic study revealed moderate pericardial effusion with normal left ventricular ***-DNA antibody and anti-ds DNA IgM were *** ro logical examination revealed a symmetrical predomina ntly sensory polyneuropathy with impairment of light touch and pin prick in globe and stoking-like *** with prednisolone improved the pericarditis and motor nerve disturbance and the treatment with intravenous immunoglobulin improved the sensory nerve disturbance.

A 76-year-old woman with a 5-mo history of recurrent diarrhea and generalized edema was admitted to our hospital. Colonoscopy revealed edematous mucosa,and histopathological examination was compatible with collagenous colitis. Protein leakage from the colon,particularly in the ascending portion,was identified on 99mTc-human serum albumin scintigraphy. Collagenous colitis associated with protein-losing enteropathy (PLE) without small bowel disease was diagnosed. Prednisolone treatment ameliorated diarrhea and hypoproteinemia. Collagenous colitis should be included in the differential diagnosis of chronic diarrhea with hypoproteinemia for appropriate management.

Efficacy and Tolerability of Candesartan Cilexetil and Amlodipine in Patients with Poorly Controlled Essential Hypertension

Current treatment guidelines for hypertension in both Europe and the USA stress the importance of aggressive blood pressure control. When monotherapy is not enough to reach treatment targets, there is a need for combination regi-mens that have both high efficacy and good tolerability. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and toler-ability of the combination therapy candesartan and amlodipine in patients with hypertension not satisfactorily controlled by monotherapy. Patients with uncomplicated essential hypertension not satisfactorily controlled by monotherapy, which is candesartan 8 mg or amlodipine 5 mg, were eligible. Candesartan 8 mg and amlodipine 5 mg were given for 12 weeks. 13 patients who received candesartan 8 mg previoursly were assigned to the candesartan group and 8 patients who received amlodipine 5 mg previoursly were assigned to the amlodipine group. Sitting systolic blood pressure (SBP) at baseline was 151.9 ± 11.6 mmHg in the candesartan group, and 154.6 ± 7.6 mmHg in the amlodipine group. Sitting diastolic blood pressure (DBP) was 93.2 ± 13.1 in the candesartan group, and 80.4 ± 14.7 in the amlodipine group. DBP in the amlodipine group was lower than that in the cadesartan group (P = 0.036). After the combination therapy, SBP was significantly reduced in the two groups. DBP showed significant reduction in the amlodipine group. The rate of achieving blood pressure goals was 4% at baseline and significantly increased to 58% after the combination therapy. These results showed that candesartan 8 mg/amlodipine 5 mg are effective lowering blood pressure after 12 weeks in patients not adequately controlled by monotherapy.

BACKGROUND Double-balloon endoscopic retrograde cholangiography (DB-ERC) is widely performed for biliary diseases after reconstruction in gastrointestinal surgery,but there are few reports on DB-ERC after hepatectomy or living donor liver transplantation (LDLT).AIM To examine the success rates and safety of DB-ERC after hepatectomy or LDLT METHODS The study was performed retrospectively in 26 patients (45 procedures) who underwent hepatectomy or LDLT (liver operation:LO group) and 40 control patients (59 procedures) who underwent pancreatoduodenectomy (control group).The technical success (endoscope reaching the choledochojejunostomy site),diagnostic success (performance of cholangiography),therapeutic success(completed interventions) and overall success rates,insertion and procedure(completion of DB-ERC) time,and adverse events were compared between these *** There were no significant differences between LO and control groups in the technical [93.3%(42/45) vs 96.6%(57/59),P=0.439],diagnostic [83.3%(35/42) vs83.6%(46/55),P=0.968],therapeutic [97.0%(32/33) vs 97.7%(43/44),P=0.836],and overall [75.6%(34/45) vs 79.7%(47/59),P=0.617] success *** median insertion time (22 vs 14 min,P <0.001) and procedure time (43.5 vs 30 min,P=0.033) were significantly longer in the LO *** incidence of adverse events showed no significant difference [11.1%(5/45) vs 6.8%(4/59),P=0.670].CONCLUSION DB-ERC after liver operation is safe and useful but longer time is required,so should be performed with particular care.
