RELAP5 Code Study of ROSA/LSTF Experiments on PWR Safety System Using Steam Generator Secondary-Side Depressurization

RELAP5 （reactor excursion and leak analysis program, version 5） code analyses were performed on two ROSA/LSTF （rig of safety assessment/large scale test facility） experiments on PWR （pressurized water reactor） safety system that simulated cold leg small-break loss-of-coolant accidents with 8-in. or 4-in. diameter break using SG （steam generator） secondary-side depressurization. The SG depressurization was initiated by fully opening the depressurization valves in both SGs immediately after a safety injection signal. In the 8-in. break test, loop seal clearing occurred and then core uncovery and heatup took place by core boil-off. Core collapsed liquid level recovered after the initiation of accumulator coolant injection, and long-term core cooling was ensured by the actuation of low-pressure injection system. In the 4-in. break test, on the other hand, there was no core uncovery and heatup due to smaller break flow rate than in the 8-in. break test. Adjustment of Cd （break discharge coefficient） for two-phase discharge flow predicted the break flow rate reasonably well. The code well predicted the overall trend of the major thermal-hydraulic response observed in the two LSTF tests by the Cd adjustment. The code, however, overpredicted the peak cladding temperature because of underprediction of the core collapsed liquid level due to inadequate prediction of the accumulator flow rate in the 8-in. break case.

Separate-effect experiment simulating steam direct-contact condensation on ECCS （emergency core cooling system） water in PWR （pressurized water reactor） cold legs during reflood phase of large-break LOCA （loss-of-coolant accident） was conducted in OECD/NEA ROSA Project using the LSTF （large scale test facility）. A new test section was furnished in the downstream of the LSTF break unit horizontally attached to the cold leg. Significant condensation of steam appeared in a short distance from the simulated ECCS injection point, and the steam temperature in the test section decreased immediately after the initiation of the ECCS water injection. Total steam condensation rate estimated from the difference between steam flow rates at the test section inlet and outlet was in proportion to the simulated ECCS water mass flux until the complete condensation of steam. Clear images of high-speed video camera were successfully obtained on droplet behaviors through the viewer of the test section, especially for annular mist flow.

Cell adhesion plays pivotal roles in the morphogenesis of multicellular *** cells form several types of cell-to-cell adhesion,including zonula occludens(tight junctions),zonula adhaerens(adherens junctions),and macula adhaerens(desmosomes).Although these adhesion complexes are basically observed only in epithelial cells,cadherins,which are the major cell adhesion molecules of adherens junctions,are expressed in both epithelial and non-epithelial tissues,including neural tissues(Kawauchi,2012).The cadherin superfamily consists of more than 100 members,but classic cadherins.

Condyloma acuminatum(CA) is a common sexually transmitted disease caused by human papilloma virus infection. Not all individuals develop persistent, progressive disease, but careful follow up is required with moderate-to-severe dysplasia to prevent progression to malignancy. Standard therapies include surgical treatments(trans-anal resection and transanal endoscopic microsurgery) and immunotherapeutic and topical methods(topical imiquimod); however, local recurrence remains a considerable problem. Here, we report a case with superficial CA of the anal canal, treated with endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD). A 28-year-old man presented with a chief complaint of hematochezia. Digital exam did not detect a tumor. Screening colonoscopy revealed 10-mm long, whitish condyles extending from the anal canal to the lower rectum. The lesion covered almost the whole circumference, and only a small amount of normal mucosa remained. Magnifying endoscopy with narrow band imaging showed brownish hairpin-shaped, coiled capillaries. Although histopathological diagnosis by biopsy revealed CA, accurate histological differentiation between CA, papilloma, and squamous cell carcinoma can be difficult with a small specimen. Therefore, weperformed diagnostic ESD, which provides a complete specimen for precise histopathological evaluation. The pathological diagnosis was CA, with moderate dysplasia(anal intraepithelial neoplasia 2). There was no recurrence at 16 mo after the initial ESD. Compared to surgical treatment, endoscopic diagnosis and resection could be performed simultaneously and the tumor margin observed clearly with a magnifying chromocolonoscopy, resulting in less recurrence. These findings suggest that endoscopic resection may be an alternative method for CA that prevents recurrence.

On 11 March 2011, the Tohoku tsunami hit the northeastern region of Japan, causing massive damage to people and property. The tsunami was bigger than any other in Japan’s recorded history, but the damage varied by community. This research addressed the effects of socioeconomic status and demographic composition on mortality in the 2011 Tohoku tsunami using community-level *** effects were estimated using regression analysis, taking into account a variety of potential contributing aspects at the community level, including strength of the tsunami,population characteristics, gender, age, education, household composition, evacuation methods, and occupation. It was found that the height of the tsunami and the shares of threegeneration households and employees in the manufacturing industry are all positively correlated with tsunami *** impacts of these factors on mortality are particularly large for the older adults.

To reduce the collision shock and risk of injury to an infant in an in-car crib(or in a child safety bed)during a car crash,it is necessary to limit the force acting on the crib below a certain allowable *** realize this objective,we propose a semi-active in-car crib system with the joint application of regular and inverted pendulum *** crib is supported by arms similar to a pendulum,and the pendulum system itself is supported by arms similar to an inverted *** addition,the arm acting as a regular pendulum is joined with the arm acting as an inverted pendulum through a linking mechanism for simplicity,and the friction torque of the joint connecting the base and the latter arm is controlled using a brake mechanism,which enables the proposed in-car crib to gradually increase the deceleration of the crib and maintain it at around the target *** system not only reduces the impulsive force but also transfers the force to the infant′s back using a spin control system,i.e.,the impulse force is made to act perpendicularly on the *** spin control system was developed in our previous *** present work focuses on the acceleration control system.A semi-active control law with acceleration feedback is introduced using the sliding mode control ***,a feedback system of the crib acceleration relative to the vehicle is proposed for the high-vibrational ***,a control experiment using scale model is conducted to confirm the effectiveness,and some results are reported.

The polysaccharides, such as κ-carrageenan, ι-carrageenan, agarose (agar), gellan gum, amylose, curdlan, alginate, and deacetylated rhamsan gum, in water changed into an ice-like structure with hydrogen bonding between polymer and water molecules, and between water-water molecules even at a concentration range of 0.1% - 1.0% (W/V) at room temperature, resulting in gelation. Such dramatic changes from liquid into gels have been understood at the molecular level in principles. In this review, we describe the structure-function relationship of starch on the view point of rheological aspects and discuss gelatinization and retrogradation mechanism including water molecules at molecular level. The starch molecules (amylose and amylopectin) play a dominant role in the center of the tetrahedral cavities occupied by water molecules, and the arrangement is partially similar to a tetrahedral structure in a gelatinization process. The arrangement should lead to a cooperative effect stabilizing extended regions of ice-like water with hydrogen bonding on the surface of the polymer molecules, where hemiacetal oxygen and hydroxyl groups might participate in hydrogen bonding with water molecules. Thus, a more extended ice-like hydrogen bonding within water molecules might be achieved in a retrogradation process. Though many investigations not only include starch gelatinization and retrogradaion, but also the gelling properties of the polysaccharides have been undertaken to elucidate the structure-function relationship, no other researchers have established mechanism at the molecular level. There is reasonable consistency in our investigations.

We have been studying various types of computer-generated holograms for three-dimensional （3D） displays both for a real-time holographic video display and a hard copy, or a printed hologram. For the hard copy output, we have developed a direct fringe printer, which is achieved to print over 100 gigapixels computer-generated hologram with 0.44μm pitch. In this paper, we introduce our recent progresses on the rainbow hologram, the cylindrical holograms, and the disk hologram for 3D display.
