Preparation of Cu nanoparticles with ascorbic acid by aqueous solution reduction method

Cu nanoparticles were prepared by reducing Cu2＋ ions with ascorbic acid through aqueous solution reduction method. The effects of solution pH and average size of Cu2O particles on the preparation of Cu nanoparticles were investigated. Cu particles were prepared at pH 3, 5 or 7, with the smallest Cu particles obtained at pH 7. However, Cu particles could not be prepared at pH 9 or 11. The average size of Cu2O particles can affect that of Cu particles. Larger Cu2O particles result in larger Cu particles. In addition, experiments were conducted to explore the reaction process by measuring the X-ray diffraction （XRD） patterns of specimens collected at different time points during the reaction. It was found that Cu（OH）2 was initially formed as a precursor, followed by the formation of Cu2O, which was finally reduced to Cu particles.

Numerical simulations have been carded out for two-dimensional wavy falling liquid film in order to investigate kinetic energy and surface energy of that liquid film. Governing equations, which are continuity equation, Na-, vier-Stokes equation, and equations of interfacial boundary conditions including surface movement and effect of surface tension, have been solved directly by means of a numerical scheme based on the finite difference method. In most cases, periodic disturbances superimposed at inflow boundary grow to fully developed waves Which retain the given periodic behavior. In some cases, however, random waves appear after the fully developed waves. Variations of kinetic energy and surface energy of the periodically developed waves and the random waves have been discussed.

The utilization of decision support systems which are flexible enough to handle information about cooperative behavior and stakeholder attitudes are useful for analyzing complex social conflicts. One such conflict which arose from the redevelopment of a private brownfield property in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada is examined using such a decision support tool. Specifically, a formal model referred to as COAT which allows for the examination of conflicts with both coalition and attitude properties is rigorously defined and then implemented within the framework of the Graph Model for Conflict Resolution in order that insights may be gained on how the decision makers can reach win-win resolutions.

Perioperative hyperglycemia in critically ill surgery patients increases the risk of postoperative infection (POI), which is a common, and often costly, surgical complication. Hyperglycemia is associated with abnormalities in leukocyte function, including granulocyte adherence, impaired phagocytosis, delayed chemotaxis, and depressed bactericidal capacity. These leukocyte deficiencies are the cause ofinfection and improve with tight glycemic control, which leads to fewer POIs in critically ill surgical patients. Tight glycemic control, such as intensive insulin therapy, has a risk of hypoglycemia. In addition, the optimal targeted blood glucose range to reduce POI remains unknown. Since 2006, we have investigated tight perioperative blood glucose control using a closed-loop artificial endocrine pancreas system, to reduce POI and to avoid hypoglycemia. In this Topic Highlight, we review the relationship between perioperative glycemic control and POI, including the use of the artificial pancreas.

The presentation,subtype,and macroscopic images of lymphoma vary depending on the site of the tumor within the gastrointestinal *** searched PubMed for publications between January 1,2012 and October 10,2022,and retrieved 130 articles relating to duodenal lymphoma.A further 22 articles were added based on the manual screening of relevant articles,yielding 152 articles for full-text *** most predominant primary duodenal lymphoma was follicular *** this review,we provide an update of the diagnosis and management of representative lymphoma subtypes occurring in the duodenum:Follicular lymphoma,diffuse large B-cell lymphoma,extranodal marginal zone lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue,mantle cell lymphoma,and Tcell lymphomas.

Carcinosarcoma,which comprises less than one percent of all gall bladder neoplasms,is characterized by the presence of variable proportions of carcinomatous and sarcomatous ***,several reports have described patients suffering from carcinosarcoma of the gall ***,there are no large studies regarding the clinicopathologic features,therapeutic management,and surgical outcome of this disease because the number of patients who undergo resection of gall bladder carcinosarcoma at a single institution is limited.A Medline search was performed using the keywords 'gall bladder' and 'carcinosarcoma'.Additional articles were obtained from references within the papers identified by the Medline *** adjuvant chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy protocols for carcinosarcoma of the gall bladder have not been *** surgical resection offers the only chance for long-term survival from this *** outcome of 36 patients who underwent surgical resection for carcinosarcoma of the gall bladder was poor;the 3-year overall survival rate was only 31.0% and the median survival time was 7.0 *** the postoperative prognosis of carcinosarcoma of the gall bladder is worse than that of adenocarcinoma,new adjuvant chemotherapies and/or radiation techniques are essential for improvement of surgical outcome.

Metastatic bone cancer as a recurrence of early gastric cancer - characteristics and possible mechanisms

The surgical outcome of most early gastric cancer （EGC） is usually satisfactory. Some cases show bone metastasis even though the depth of cancer invasion is confined to the mucosa. The most frequent site for recurrence of EGC is the liver. Cases of EGC with bone metastasis are reviewed to clarify the clinicopathological characteristics of EGC giving rise to bone metastasis. Possible mechanisms and risk factors underlying this rare condition are proposed. Forty-six cases of bone metastasis from EGC are reviewed from published reports and meeting proceedings in Japan. This investigation suggests that risk factors for bone metastasis from EGC include depressed-type signet-ring cell carcinoma, poorly differentiated carcinoma, and/or the likely involvement of lymph node metastasis, even though the cancer is confined to the gastric mucosa. The risk factors do not include recurrence of EGC in the liver. We speculate that the mechanism of bone metastasis from EGC is via lymphatic channels and systemic circulation. Postoperative follow-up of cases should consider the development of bone metastasis from EGC. We propose the use of elevated alkaline phosphatase levels for the detection of bone metastasis and recommend bone scintigraphy in positive cases. 2005 The WJG Press and Elsevier Inc. AIM： To review the cases reported in the literature, examined their clinicopathological features, and evaluated the efficacy of different therapeutic modalities for this rare condition. METHODS： A search of the MEDLINE database revealed 16 cases of pericarditis carcinomatosa （PC） originating from GC reported in the literature between 1982 and 2005. Additional detailed data were obtained from the authors of these studies for subsequent clinicopathological investigation. We have also described about a case study from our own clinic. RESULTS： The mean age of cases with pericarditis carcinomatosa originating from GC was 54 years. Females were diagnosed at a younger age （46.3 years） compared to males （58 years）. The mean survival period afer diagnosis was 4.5 mo. No statistical differences in the length of survival time were found between different therapeutic modalities, such as drainage, and local and/or systemic chemotherapy after drainage. However, three cases who underwent systemic chemotherapy survived for more than 10 mo. Cases that developed metachronous cardiac tamponade for more than 2 years afer the diagnosis of GC generally survived for a longer period of time, although this was not statistically significant. Multivariate analysis revealed that low levels of carcinoembryonic antigen （CEA）, and CEA and/or cancer antigen 19-9 （CA 19-9） were associated with longer survival. CONCLUSION： Cases with low levels of CEA, and CEA and/or CA 19-9 should undergo systemic chemotherapy with or without local chemotherapy afer drainage.

Lanthanum carbonate is used for treatment of hyperphosphatemia mostly in patients with chronic renal *** lanthanum carbonate is safe,recently,lanthanum deposition in the gastrointestinal mucosa of patients has been reported in the *** review provides an overview of gastroduodenal lanthanum deposition and focuses on disease's endoscopic,radiological,and histological features,prevalence,and outcome,by reviewing relevant clinical studies,case reports,and basic research findings,to better understand the endoscopic manifestation of gastrointestinal lanthanum *** possible relationship between gastric lanthanum deposition pattern and gastric mucosal atrophy is also illustrated;in patients without gastric mucosal atrophy,gastric lanthanum deposition appears as diffuse white lesions in the posterior wall and lesser curvature of the gastric *** the gastric mucosa with atrophy,lanthanum-related lesions likely appear as annular or granular whitish ***,these white lesions are probably more frequently observed in the lower part of the stomach,where intestinal metaplasia begins.
