During the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic,the Japanese government implemented several infection control measures,such as states of emergency(SoE)and school closures,and encouraged universal masking and hand *** activity restrictions and improved hygiene were found to be associated with declines in the incidence of infuenza during the 2019–2020 winter season[1].Prior studies have found that the incidence of seven pediatric infections,such as pharyngoconjunctivitis and varicella,decreased during and after the school closures in Japan[2].As activity restrictions continue to be lifted,there is growing concern that pediatric infections may suddenly return given that the pool of susceptible children increased during the pandemic[3].In this study,we use national infectious disease sentinel data from January 2012 to October 2021 to assess changes in the reported number of pediatric infections in Japan during the COVID-19 *** hypothesize that the reporting of many infectious diseases decreased during the early stages of the pandemic but ultimately returned to normal when activity restrictions were lifted.

Association between Daily Living Walking Speed and Lifestyle and Physiological Factors in Older, Female Pokémon GO Players

Background: Walking speed is a reliable barometer of adverse health outcomes, particularly among older people. Few studies evaluated factors associated with daily actual walking speed, rather than that measured in a laboratory setting or self-reported data. Methods: In a joint effort with The Pokémon Company, we recruited study participants through a women’s magazine and analyzed data from 63 Pokémon GO players. We measured the true walking speed in daily life among older women using a data-gathering mobile application. Then, using questionnaire survey data collected on these participants in 2019, we estimated the relationship between walking speed and their lifestyle and physiological factors. In the analysis, we employed a bi-directional stepwise linear regression approach, with the Akaike information criterion (AIC) for variable selection. Results: The mean age of the 63 participants was 63.03 years (standard deviation, SD 7.46);the average walking speed was 4.56 km per hour (SD 1.54);and 52 (82.5%) and 55 (87.3%) participants answered that they had excellent/good health physically and mentally, respectively. After adjusted for covariates in a stepwise regression approach, we identified a significant association between −1.33 (95% confidence intervals −2.52 to −0.15) km/hour lower walking speed and the experience of outdoor falls within a year. We also demonstrated that the walking speed was 1.07 (0.33 to 1.81) km/hour faster for those who had played Pokémon GO before the study started. The title compounds were synthesized by taking advantage of the Martin ligand. Their structures were determined by X-ray crystallography. Pentacoordinate thiasiliranides were hydrolyzed to give the corresponding thiol. Pentacoordinate chalcogenaphosphiranes were found to have polar P-chalcogen bonds, which were confirmed by their reactions with CF3SO3Me to give the corresponding 1-（methylchalcogena）alkylphosphonium triflates and by the solvent-dependent NMR studies.

Experiment on a Semi-Active In-Car Crib with Joint Application of Regular and Inverted Pendulum Mechanisms Using Scale Model

To reduce the collision shock and risk of injury to an infant in an in-car crib(or in a child safety bed)during a car crash,it is necessary to limit the force acting on the crib below a certain allowable *** realize this objective,we propose a semi-active in-car crib system with the joint application of regular and inverted pendulum *** crib is supported by arms similar to a pendulum,and the pendulum system itself is supported by arms similar to an inverted *** addition,the arm acting as a regular pendulum is joined with the arm acting as an inverted pendulum through a linking mechanism for simplicity,and the friction torque of the joint connecting the base and the latter arm is controlled using a brake mechanism,which enables the proposed in-car crib to gradually increase the deceleration of the crib and maintain it at around the target *** system not only reduces the impulsive force but also transfers the force to the infant′s back using a spin control system,i.e.,the impulse force is made to act perpendicularly on the *** spin control system was developed in our previous *** present work focuses on the acceleration control system.A semi-active control law with acceleration feedback is introduced using the sliding mode control ***,a feedback system of the crib acceleration relative to the vehicle is proposed for the high-vibrational ***,a control experiment using scale model is conducted to confirm the effectiveness,and some results are reported.

A fast convergence fourth-order Vlasov model for Hall thruster ionization oscillation analyses

A 1D1 V hybrid Vlasov-fluid model was developed for this study to elucidate discharge current oscillations of Hall thrusters(HTs).The Vlasov equation for ions velocity distribution function with ionization source term is solved using a constrained interpolation profile conservative semiLagrangian *** fourth-order weighted essentially non-oscillatory(4 th WENO)limiter is applied to the first derivative value to minimize numerical oscillation in the discharge oscillation *** fourth-order accuracy is verified through a 1 D scalar test *** and high-resolution features of the Vlasov model are confirmed by simulating the test cases of the Vlasov–Poisson system and by comparing the results with a particle-in-cell(PIC)method.A1 D1 V HT simulation is performed through the hybrid Vlasov *** ionization oscillation is *** oscillation amplitude and plasma density are compared with those obtained from a hybrid PIC *** comparison indicates that the hybrid Vlasov-fluid model yields noiseless results and that the steady-state waveform is calculable in a short time period.

We study symmetric hyperbolic systems with memory-type dissipation and investigate their dissipative *** treat two cases:memory-type diffusion and memory-type relaxation,and observe that the dissipative structures of these two cases are essentially ***,we show that the dissipative structure of the system with memory-type diffusion is of the standard type,while that of the system with memory-type relaxation is of the regularity-loss type.

Approaches to Stable Operation of Shaftless Centrifugal Pump

The shaft-less impeller of the centrifugal pump, which is driven by the magnetic induction, was developed. Theimpeller rotates under the floating condition without any control device. The floating condition of the impeller isrealized by utilizing the pressure in pump casing. The pump performance and the rotational behavior of the impellerwere investigated experimentally. It has found that the floating position of the impeller become quite unstablein a partial flow rate operation. And the pressure distribution at the casing wall affects the rotational posture ofthe impeller. This paper presents the effect of the casing treatment on the rotational posture of the impeller and thepressure distribution. The reasonable casing treatment is available for the stable rotational posture of the impeller.

Ghrelin and gastric acid secretion

Ghrelin, a novel growth hormone-releasing peptide, was originally isolated from rat and human stomach. Ghrelin has been known to increase the secretion of growth hormone (GH), food intake, and body weight gain when administered peripherally or centrally. Ghrelin is also known to stimulate the gastric motility and the secretion of gastric acid. In the previous studies, the action of ghrelin on acid secretion was shown to be as strong as that of histamine and gastrin in in-vivo experiment. In the studies, the mechanism for the action of ghrelin was also investigated. It was shown that vagotomy completely inhibited the action of ghrelin on the secretion of gastric acid suggesting that vagal nerve is involved in the mechanism for the action of ghrelin on acid secretion. As famotidine did not inhibit ghrelin-in-duced acid secretion in the study by Masuda et al, they concluded that histamine was not involved in the action of ghrelin on acid secretion. However, we have shown that famotidine completely inhibited ghrelin-induced acid secretion and histidine decarboxylase (HDC) mRNA was increased in gastric mucosa by ghrelin injection which is inhibited by vagotomy Our results indicate that histamine is involved in the action of ghrelin on acid secretion. Furthermore synergistic action of gastrin and ghrelin on gastric acid secretion was shown. Although gastrin has important roles in postprandial secretion of gastric acid, ghrelin may be related to acid secretion during fasting period or at night. However, further studies are needed to elucidate the physiological role of ghrelin in acid secretion.
