Analysis of shopping behavior characteristics in the Keihanshin metropolitan area in Japan based on a person trip survey

This study analyzed weekday shopping behavior from a home base to a destination using data from the 4th Keihanshin metropolitan area person trip survey.We first analyzed the relationships between occupation and transportation means,transportation means and travel time,and transportation means and duration of time at the destination.Results of a chi-square test,residual analysis,and correspondence analysis confirmed that employed persons tend to travel by cars while unemployed persons tend to travel by bus or walk.The relationship between travel time and duration of time at the destination was also revealed according to transportation means.Results of a cluster analysis then classified shopping behaviors to expose four patterns.Finally,multiple regression analyzed the degree to which certain variables were related to duration of time at the destination.Results confirmed a strong relationship between duration of time at the destination and travel time.The degree of this factor’s influence on other variables was also clarified.The value of these findings is that the relationship between travel time by means of transportation and the duration of time at the destination was clarified using statistical analysis.We then found a highly accurate equation that estimates the duration of time at a destination from the travel time.If the duration of time at a destination can be estimated,it may be possible to more accurately develop the structure of rest facilities,the number of parking lots,the degree of congestion,and so on,which can be associated with the customer’s usage behavior in a shopping site.This research in this paper contributes to the field of urban analysis and marketing by presenting a new effective method for person trip survey and analysis.

Effects of Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation in Combination with Glutamine Administration on Skeletal Muscle Atrophy in Colon-26 Tumor-Bearing Mice

The depressed protein synthetic response,a phenomenon termed anabolic resistance,has been shown to be involved in muscle wasting induced by cancer cachexia.Moreover,a positive relationship between the protein synthetic rate and intracellular glutamine(GLN)concentration has been found in skeletal muscles.This study investigated the effects of neuromuscular electrical stimulation(ES)and GLN administration on muscle wasting and GLN metabolism in colon-26(C-26)tumor-bearing mice.CD2F1 mice were divided into 8 groups:control(CNT),CNT+ES,CNT+GLN,CNT+ES+GLN,C-26,C-26+ES,C-26+GLN,C-26+ES+GLN.Cancer cachexia was induced by subcutaneous injection of C-26 cells and developed for four weeks.ES was performed on the left plantar flexor muscles every other day,and GLN(1 g/kg)was administered daily intraperitoneally starting one day after the C-26 injection.Tumor-free body mass and fast-twitch gastrocnemius(Gas)muscle weight were lower in the C-26 group than in the CNT group(-19%and-17%,respectively).Neither ES training nor GLN administration,alone or in combination,ameliorated the loss of Gas muscle weight in the C-26 mice.However,ES training in combination with GLN administration inhibited the increased expression of GLN synthetase(GS)in the C-26 muscles.Thus,it is likely that GLN plays a critical role in muscle protein metabolism and,therefore,can be targeted as a tentative treatment of cancer cachexia.

Isolated proteinuria as an initial sign of severe preeclampsia

Two pregnant women who initially developed proteinuria alone followed by serious preeclampsia are presented to emphasize that there is no adequate technical term to express the period of proteinuria alone based on the current criteria of pregnancy-induced hypertension. Case 1 exhibited a urinary protein concentration of 46 mg/dL in the absence of hypertension, and abdominal pain due to placental abruption with hypertension at gestational week (GW) 29–3/7 and 29–4/7, respectively. Case 2 exhibited a urinary protein/creatinine ratio of 2.67, developed hypertension, required cesarean section, and developed posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome at GW 28–1/7, 29–6/7, and 32–0/7, and on postpartum day 2, respectively. As women with proteinuria alone are not diagnosed as having preeclampsia and as a diagnosis of gestational proteinuria can be made only at 12 weeks postpartum, a prospective technical term applicable to the condition of proteinuria alone is needed to increase physicians’ attention to this condition.

The development of vehicle integrated photovoltaics-powered electric vehicles (VIPV-EV) significantly reduces CO2 emissions from the transport sector to realize a decarbonized society. Although long-distance driving of VIPV-EV without electricity charging is expected in sunny regions, driving distance of VIPV-EV is affected by climate conditions such as solar irradiation and temperature rise of PV modules. In this paper, detailed analytical results for effects of climate conditions such as solar irradiation and temperature rise of PV modules upon driving distance of the VIPV-EV were presented by using test data for Toyota Prius and Nissan Van demonstration cars installed with high-efficiency InGaP/GaAs/InGaAs 3-junction solar cell modules with a module efficiency of more than 30%. The temperature rise of some PV modules studied in this study was shown to be expressed by some coefficients related to solar irradiation, wind speed and radiative cooling. The potential of VIPV-EV to be deployed in 10 major cities was also analyzed. Although sunshine cities such as Phoenix show the high reduction ratio of driving range with 17% due to temperature rise of VIPV modules, populous cities such as Tokyo show low reduction ratio of 9%. It was also shown in this paper that the difference between the driving distance of VIPV-EV driving in the morning and the afternoon is due to PV modules’ radiative cooling. In addition, the importance of heat dissipation of PV modules and the development of high-efficiency PV modules with better temperature coefficients was suggested in order to expand driving range of VIPV-EV. The effects of air-conditioner usage and partial shading in addition to the effects of temperature rise of VIPV modules were suggested as the other power losses of VIPV-EV.

Delayed immune-related sclerosing cholangitis after discontinuation of pembrolizumab:A case report

BACKGROUND Secondary sclerosing cholangitis,characterized by biliary obstruction,can be caused by drugs such as immune checkpoint inhibitors(ICIs).While there a few reports of sclerosing cholangitis after immune checkpoint inhibitor administration,no case has been reported after discontinuation of such drugs.CASE SUMMARY A 68-year-old man who underwent chemotherapy for lung adenocarcinoma with bone metastasis presented with abdominal pain and fever 4 mo after the final administration of pembrolizumab.Computed tomography revealed thickening of the gallbladder wall and dilatation of the common bile duct.Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography revealed an irregularly narrowed intrahepatic bile duct.Biopsy of the bile duct demonstrated that CD8+T cells were predominant over CD4+T cells.Liver biopsy showed dominant infiltration of CD8+T in the portal tract,but onion-skin lesions were not observed.The patient was diagnosed with immune-related sclerosing cholangitis induced by pembrolizumab.Administration of methylprednisolone and endoscopic nasobiliary drainage were performed,but the cholangiography and laboratory test findings did not improve.No further treatment was administered due to disease progression,and the patient was referred for palliative care.CONCLUSION Immune-related sclerosing cholangitis may have a late onset,and such cases occurring after discontinuation of ICIs should be carefully managed.

Pre-sarcopenia and Mac-2 binding protein glycosylation isomer as predictors of recurrence and prognosis of early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma

BACKGROUND The Mac-2 binding protein glycosylation isomer(M2BPGi),a fibrosis marker in various liver diseases,is reportedly a prognostic marker in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)who underwent hepatectomy.AIM To evaluate whether the M2BPGi value,M2BP,and pre-sarcopenia before radiofrequency ablation(RFA)could be useful recurrence and prognostic markers in patients with early-stage HCC.METHODS In total,160 patients with early-stage primary HCC treated with RFA were separately analyzed as hepatitis C virus(HCV)-positive and HCV-negative.Factors contributing to recurrence and liver-related death,including M2BP,M2BPGi,and skeletal muscle mass index,were statistically analyzed.Eighty-three patients were HCV-positive and 77 were HCV-negative.RESULTS In HCV-positive patients,only des-γ-carboxy-prothrombin≥23 mAU/mL was a significant poor prognostic factor affecting survival after RFA.In HCV-negative patients,M2BPGi≥1.86 cutoff index was significantly associated with tumor recurrence,while M2BP was not.M2BPGi≥1.86 cutoff index(hazard ratio,4.89;95%confidence interval:1.97-12.18;P<0.001)and pre-sarcopenia(hazard ratio,3.34,95%confidence interval:1.19-9.37;P=0.022)were independent significant poor prognostic factors in HCV-negative patients.CONCLUSION In HCV-negative patients with primary HCC treated with RFA,lower M2BPGi contributed to a lower tumor recurrence rate and longer survival period.Pre-sarcopenia contributed to the poor prognosis independently in HCV-negative patients.These factors might be useful recurrence and prognostic markers for early-stage primary HCC.

Two-dimensional optical tomography of hemodynamic changes in a preterm infant brain

Our preliminary results on two-dimensional （2D） optical tomographic imaging of hemodynamic changes in a preterm infant brain are reported. We use the established 16-channel time-correlated single photon counting system for the detection and generalized pulse spectrum technique based algorithm for the image reconstruction. The experiments demonstrate that diffuse optical tomography may be a potent means for investigating brain functions and neural development of infant brains in the perinatal period.

Clinical management for malignant afferent loop obstruction

Afferent loop obstruction(ALO)is defined as duodenal or jejunal mechanical obstruction at the proximal anastomosis site of a gastrojejunostomy.With advances in chemotherapy,the incidence of malignant ALO is increasing.Malignant ALO can be complicated by ischemia,gangrenous bowel,pancreatitis,and ascending cholangitis.Moreover,the general condition of patients with recurrent cancer is often poor.Therefore,accurate and rapid diagnosis and minimally invasive treatments are required.However,no review articles on the diagnosis and treatment of malignant ALO have been published.Through literature searching,we reviewed related articles published between 1959 and 2020 in the PubMed database.Herein,we present recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of malignant ALO and describe future perspectives.Endoscopic transluminal self-expandable metal stent(SEMS)placement is considered the standard treatment for malignant ALO,as this procedure is well established and less invasive.However,with the development of interventional endoscopic ultrasound(EUS)in recent years,the usefulness of EUS-guided gastrojejunostomy has been reported.Moreover,through indirect comparison,this approach has been reported to be superior to transluminal SEMS placement.It is expected that a safer and less invasive treatment method will be established through the continued advancement and innovation of interventional endoscopy techniques.
