Large Deformation Analysis and Synthesis of Elastic Closed-loop Mechanism Made of a Certain Spring Wire Described by Free Curves

Recently novel mechanisms with compact size and without many mechanical elements such as bearing are strongly required for medical devices such as surgical operation devices. This paper describes analysis and synthesis of elastic link mechanisms of a single spring beam which can be manufactured by NC coiling machines. These mechanisms are expected as disposable micro forceps. Smooth Curvature Model（SCM） with 3rd order Legendre polynomial curvature functions is applied to calculate large deformation of a curved cantilever beam by taking account of the balance between external and internal elastic forces and moments. SCM is then extended to analyze large deformation of a closed-loop curved elastic beam which is composed of multiple free curved beams. A closed-loop elastic link is divided into two free curved cantilever beams each of which is assumed as serially connected free curved cantilever beams described with SCM. The sets of coefficients of Legendre polynomials of SCM in all free curved cantilever beams are determined by taking account of the force and moment balance at connecting point where external input force is applied. The sets of coefficients of Legendre polynomials of a nonleaded closed-loop elastic link are optimized to design a link mechanism which can generate specified output motion due to input force applied at the assumed dividing point. For example, two planar micro grippers with a single pulling input force are analyzed and designed. The elastic deformation analyzed with proposed method agrees very well with that calculated with FEM. The designed micro gripper can generate the desired pinching motion. The proposed method can contribute to design compact and simple elastic mechanisms without high calculation costs.

3-Ethynyl-4-(trimethylsilyl)thiophene (1a) and 3-ethynyl-4-bromothiophene (1b) selectively undergo acetylene polymerizations in the presence of the MoCl5- and WCl6-Ph3SiH catalysts to give soluble, high-molecular-weight poly(thienylacetylenes) (2) (M-w up to 602000) in high yields (up to 100%). Light transmission spectra of THF solutions of 2 continuously red-shift with increasing concentration. The concentratochromism shows a logarithmic concentration dependence; that is, the optical transitions of 2 are predictably tunable by simply changing their concentrations.

Pathways for Epidermal Cell Differentiation via the Homeobox Gene GLABRA2:Update on the Roles of the Classic Regulator

Recent plant development studies have identified regulatory pathways for epidermal cell differentiation in Arabidopsis thafiana. Interestingly, some of such pathways contain transcriptional networks with a common structure in which the homeobox gene GLABLA2 （GL2） is downstream of the transactivation complex consisting of MYB, bHLH, and WD40 proteins. Here, we review the role of GL2 as an output device of the conserved network, and update the knowledge of epidermal cell differentiation pathways downstream of GL2. Despite the consistent position of GL2 within the network, its role in epidermal tissues varies; in the root epidermis, GL2 promotes non-hair cell differentiation after cell pattern formation, whereas inthe leaf epidermis, it is likely to be involved in both pattern formation and differentiation of trichomes. GL2 expression levels act as quantitative factors for initiation of cell differentiation in the root and leaf epidermis; the quantity of hairless cells in non-root hair cell files is reduced by g12 mutations in a semi-dominant manner, and entopically additive expression of GL2 and a heterozygous g12 mutation increase and decrease the number of trichomes, respectively. Although few direct target genes have been identified, evidence from genetic and expression analyses suggests that GL2 directly regulates genes with various hierarchies in epidermal cell differentiation pathways.

Development and Social Implementation of Smartphone App Nige-Tore for Improving Tsunami Evacuation Drills: Synergistic Effects Between Commitment and Contingency

This research explored how we can improve tsunami evacuation behavior,which has been a major social issue since the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and *** introduce Nige-Tore,a smartphone app for supporting tsunami evacuation drills,which was developed within an interdisciplinary research ***-Tore serves as an effective interface tool that successfully visualizes the dynamic interactions between human actions(evacuation behavior)and natural phenomena(tsunami behavior).Drill participants can check,on their smartphone,the estimated inundation area of the approaching tsunami,along with their own current evacuation *** results of real-world trials using NigeTore show that the app is more powerful than conventional devices and methods that have been used in tsunami evacuation training,such as hazard maps and traditional drills that do not make use of any apps,because Nige-Tore provides an interface that enables commitment and contingency thinking—which at first glance appear to represent different orientations—to not only coexist but to synergize.‘‘Commitment’’(devotion or involvement)refers to the act of immersing oneself in and viewing as absolute one particular scenario or its potential to be actualized,given conditions in which infinite scenarios may be actualized,depending on the interactions between human systems and natural systems.‘‘Contingency’’thinking(an accidental or incidental state)refers to the act of relativizing and separating oneself from any particular scenario or its potential to be actualized,given the same *** synergistic effect of‘‘commitment’’and‘‘contingency’’thinking also expands people’s capacity to cope with unexpected and unforeseen events.

Extremely well-differentiated adenocarcinoma of the stomach: Clinicopathological and immunohistochemical features

AIM： Minimal deviation carcinoma of the uterine cervix, otherwise known as extremely well-differentiated adenocarcinoma （EWDA）, is characterized by its benign microscopic appearance in contrast to its aggressive behavior. In order to elucidate the clinicopathological features and biological behavior of the gastric counterpart of EWDA, we, using immunohistochemistry, analyzed nine lesions for the phenotypic expression, proliferative activity, and the expression of oncogene-associated products. METHODS： Clinicopathological features, including preoperative biopsy diagnosis, were reviewed. Using immunohitstochemistry, Ki-67 labeling index and expression of p53 and c-erbB-2 protein in the gastric lesions were ***： Locations in the middle or upper third of the stomach and polypoid macroscopic features are characteristic of EWDA of the stomach. Although 4 of the 9 lesions showed only focal lymphatic or venous invasion, lymph node metastasis was not present and none of the patients died of the lesions （mean follow-up period, 56 too）. All 9 cases of EWDA could be classified into gastric phenotype （5 lesions） and intestinal phenotype （4 lesions）. The former resembled gastric foveolar epithelium, mucous neck cells or pyloric glands, but their papillary structures were frequently elongated and the tumor cellsand their nuclei were slightly larger and more hyperchromatic compared to normal epithelium. The latter resembled intestinal metaplasia with minimal nulcear atypia and irregular glands; two of these lesions demonstrated complete intestinal phenotype, while two demonstrated incomplete intestinal phenotype. Ki-67 labeling index was low and none of the cases revealed over-expression of p53 and c-erbB-2 protein. CONCLUSION： Unlike minimal deviation carcinoma of the cervix, these findings suggest that EWDA of the stomach is a lesion of low-grade malignancy. Calcium Signaling in Plant Endosymbiotic Organelles： Mechanism and Role in Physiology

Recent studies have demonstrated that chloroplasts and mitochondria evoke specific Ca2＋ signals in response to biotic and abiotic stresses in a stress-dependent manner. The identification of Ca2＋ transporters and Ca2＋signaling mol- ecules in chloroplasts and mitochondria implies that they play roles in controlling not only intra-organellar functions, but also extra-organellar processes such as plant immunity and stress responses. It appears that organellar Ca2＋ signaling might be more important to plant cell functions than previously thought. This review briefly summarizes what is known about the molecular basis of Ca2＋ signaling in plant mitochondria and chloroplasts.

We give some new genus-3 universal equations for Gromov-Witten invariants of compact symplectic manifolds. These equations were obtained by studying relations in the tautological ring of the moduli space of2-pointed genus-3 stable curves. A byproduct of our search for genus-3 equations is a new genus-2 universal equation for Gromov-Witten invariants.
