Background:Transmembrane 4 L six family member 5(TM4SF5)translocates subcellularly and functions metabolically,although it is unclear how intracellu-lar TM4SF5 translocation is linked to metabolic *** is thus of interests to understand how the traffic dynamics of TM4SF5 to subcellular endosomal membranes are correlated to regulatory roles of ***:Here,we explored the metabolic significance of TM4SF5 localization at mitochondria-lysosome contact sites(MLCSs),using in vitro cells and in vivo animal systems,via approaches by immunofluorescence,proximity labelling based proteomics analysis,organelle reconstitution ***:Upon extracellular glucose repletion following depletion,TM4SF5 became enriched at MLCSs via an interaction between mitochondrial FK506-binding protein 8(FKBP8)and lysosomal *** labeling showed molecular clustering of phospho-dynamic-related protein I(DRP1)and certain mitophagy receptors at TM4SF5-enriched MLCSs,leading to mitochondrial fis-sion and ***4SF5 bound NPC intracellular cholesterol transporter 1(NPC1)and free cholesterol,and mediated export of lysosomal cholesterol to mitochondria,leading to impaired oxidative phosphorylation but intact tri-carboxylic acid(TCA)cycle andβ-*** mouse models,hepatocyte Tm4sf5 promoted mitophagy and cholesterol transport to mitochondria,both with positive relations to liver ***:Our findings suggested that TM4SF5-enriched MLCSs regu-late glucose catabolism by facilitating cholesterol export for mitochondrial reprogramming,presumably while hepatocellular carcinogenesis,recapitulating aspects for hepatocellular carcinoma metabolism with mitochondrial repro-gramming to support biomolecule synthesis in addition to glycolytic energetics.

Stress-induced cardiomyopathy, also known as Takotsubo cardiomyopathy and left ventricular apical ballooning syndrome, is characterized by transient systolic dysfunction of the apical and mid-segments of the left ventricle with the abscence of coronary occlusion, This disease typically occurs in postmenopausal women of an advanced age after emotional or physical stress. Although the prognosis is generally favorable, acute fatal complications have been reported in a small subset of patients. Some patients died with acute cardiac complications, on the other hand, other patients died with underlying critical illness which triggered stress-induced cardiomyopathy.

The palladium nanoparticle grafted manganese oxyhydroxide nanorod(MON) electrocatalyst has been synthesized and tested for the electrooxidation of ethylene glycol(EG) in an alkaline medium. The MON was prepared using the hydrothermal method and the Pd nanoparticles were coated on the MON using an in situ reduction method. The nanocatalyst thus prepared was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, high resolution transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and electrochemical methods. The microscopic studies confirm the formation of MON and reveal that the Pd nanoparticles were grafted uniformly on the MON. In the voltammetric studies, the Pd/MON catalyst exhibited a six-fold improved peak current for ethylene glycol electrooxidation compared with the C/Pd. The EG electrooxidation reaction performances of the Pd/MON nanocatalyst in the alkaline solutions containing different quantities of EG were tested through cyclic voltammetry. The catalytic removal of the poisonous intermediates formed during electrooxidation of EG was explained. The present study shows that MON can act as an active support for the Pd nanocatalyst.

This paper presents a study on the statistical forecasts of typhoon tracks. Numerical models have their own systematic errors, like a bias. In order to improve the accuracy of track forecasting, a statistical model called DLM (dynamic linear model) is applied to remove the systematic error. In the analysis of typhoons occurring over the western North Pacific in 1997 and 2000, DLM is useful as an adaptive model for the prediction of typhoon tracks.

Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection remains a major health problem, with more than 240 million people chronically infected worldwide and potentially 650000 deaths per year due to advanced liver diseases including liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). HBV-X protein (HBx) contributes to the biology and pathogenesis of HBV via stimulating virus replication or altering host gene expression related to HCC. The HBV X region contains only 465 bp encoding the 16.5 kDa HBx protein, which also contains several critical cis-elements such as enhancer II, the core promoter and the microRNA-binding region. Thus, mutations in this region may affect not only the HBx open reading frame but also the overlapped cis-elements. Recently, several types of HBx mutations significantly associated with clinical severity have been described, although the functional mechanism in most of these cases remains unsolved. This review article will mainly focus on the HBx mutations proven to be significantly related to clinical severity via epidemiological studies.

Spatio-temporal variability in sea surface wind stress near and off the east coast of Korea

Sea surface wind stress variabilities near and off the east coast of Korea, are examined using 7 kinds of wind datasets from measurements at 2 coastal (land) stations and 2 ocean buoys,satellite scatterometer (QuikSCAT), and global reanalyzed products (ECMWF,NOGAPS,and NCEP/NCAR). Temporal variabilities are analyzed at 3 frequency bands; synoptic (2-20 d), intra-seasonal (20-90 d),and seasonal (>90 d).Synoptic and intra-seasonal variations are predominant near and off the Donghae City due to the passage of the mesoscale weather system. Seasonal variation is caused by southeastward wind stress during Asian winter monsoon. The sea surface wind stress from reanalyzed *** and KMA-B measurements off the coast show good agreement in the magnitude and direction,which are strongly aligned with the alongshore *** the land-based sites,wind stresses are much weaker by factors of 3-10 due to the mountainous landmass on the east parts of Korea *** first EOF modes(67%-70%) of wind stresses from reanalyzed and QuikSCAT data have similar structures of the strong southeastward wind stress in winter along the coast but show different curl structures at scales less than 200 km due to the orographic *** second EOF modes (23%-25%) show southwestward wind stress in every September along the east coast of the North Korea

AIM:To systematically review the evidence for the effectiveness of fast-track program vs traditional care in laparoscopic or open surgery for gastric ***:PubMed,Embase and the Cochrane library databases were electronically searched for published studies between January 1995 and April 2013,and only randomized trials were *** references of relevant studies were manually searched for further studies that may have been *** terms included"gastric cancer","fast track"and"enhanced recovery".Five outcome variables were considered most suitable for analysis:postoperative hospital stay,medical cost,duration to first flatus,C-reactive protein(CRP)level and *** hospital stay was calculated from the date of operation to the date of *** effects model was used for ***:Compared with traditional care,fasttrack program could significantly decrease the postoperative hospital stay[weighted mean difference(WMD)=-1.19,95%CI:-1.79--0.60,P=0.0001,fixed model],duration to first flatus(WMD=-6.82,95%CI:-11.51--2.13,P=0.004),medical costs(WMD=-2590,95%CI:-4054--1126,P=0.001),and the level of CRP(WMD=-17.78,95%CI:-32.22--3.35,P=0.0001)in laparoscopic surgery for gastric *** open surgery for gastric cancer,fast-track program could also significantly decrease the postoperative hospital stay(WMD=-1.99,95%CI:-2.09--1.89,P=0.0001),duration to first flatus(WMD=-12.0,95%CI:-18.89--5.11,P=0.001),medical cost(WMD=-3674,95%CI:-5025--2323,P=0.0001),and the level of CRP(WMD=-27.34,95%CI:-35.42--19.26,P=0.0001).Furthermore,fast-track program did not significantly increase the incidence of complication(RR=1.39,95%CI:0.77-2.51,P=0.27,for laparoscopic surgery;and RR=1.52,95%CI:0.90-2.56,P=0.12,for open surgery).CONCLUSION:Our overall results suggested that compared with traditional care,fast-track program could result in shorter postoperative hospital stay,less medical costs,and lower level of CRP,with no more complicatio

The corticoreticular tract （CRT） is known to be involved in walking and postural control. Using diffusion tensor tractography （DTT）, we investigated the relationship between the CRT and gait dysfunction, includ- ing trunk instability, in pediatric patients. Thirty patients with delayed development and 15 age-matched, typically-developed （TD） children were recruited. Fifteen patients with gait dysfunction （bilateral trunk instability） were included in the group A, and the other 15 patients with gait dysfunction （unilateral trunk instability） were included in the group B. The Growth Motor Function Classification System, Functional Ambulation Category scale, and Functional Ambulation Category scale were used for measurement of functional state. Fractional anisotropy, apparent diffusion coefficient, fiber number, and tract integrity of the CRT and corticospinal tract were measured. Diffusion parameters or integrity of corticospinal tract were not significantly different in the three study groups. However, CRT results revealed that both CRTs were disrupted in the group A, whereas CRT disruption in the hemispheres contralateral to clinical mani- festations was observed in the group B. Fractional anisotropy values and fiber numbers in both CRTs were decreased in the group A than in the group TD. The extents of decreases of fractional anisotropy values and fiber numbers on the ipsilateral side relative to those on the contralateral side were greater in the group B than in the group TD. Functional evaluation data and clinical manifestations were found to show strong correlations with CRT status, rather than with corticospinal tract status. These findings suggest that CRT status appears to be clinically important for gait function and trunk stability in pediatric patients and DTT can help assess CRT status in pediatric patients with gait dysfunction.
