The quotient space of a K3 surface by a finite group is an Enriques surface or a rational surface if it is smooth.Finite groups where the quotient space are Enriques surfaces are known.In this paper,by analyzing effective divisors on smooth rational surfaces,the author will study finite groups which act faithfully on K3 surfaces such that the quotient space are smooth.In particular,he will completely determine effective divisors on Hirzebruch surfaces such that there is a finite Abelian cover from a K3 surface to a Hirzebrunch surface such that the branch divisor is that effective divisor.Furthermore,he will decide the Galois group and give the way to construct that Abelian cover from an effective divisor on a Hirzebruch surface.Subsequently,he studies the same theme for Enriques surfaces.

Statins inhibit 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase,the rate-limiting enzyme of the mevalonate pathway,and are widely used as an effective and safe approach handle hypercholesterolemia.The mevalonate pathway is a vital metabolic pathway that uses acetyl-CoA to generate isoprenoids and sterols that are crucial to tumor growth and progression.Multiple studies have indicated that statins improve patient prognosis in various carcinomas.Basic research on the mechanisms underlying the antitumor effects of statins is underway.The development of new anti-cancer drugs is progressing,but increasing medical costs from drug development have become a major obstacle.Readily available,inexpensive and well-tolerated drugs like statins have not yet been successfully repurposed for cancer treatment.Identifying the cancer patients that may benefit from statins is key to improved patient treatment.This review summarizes recent advances in statin research in cancer and suggests important considerations for the clinical use of statins to improve outcomes for cancer patients.

The spread of data-driven materials research has increased the need for systematically designed materials property databases.However,the development of polymer databases has lagged far behind other material systems.We present RadonPy,an open-source library that can automate the complete process of all-atom classical molecular dynamics(MD)simulations applicable to a wide variety of polymeric materials.Herein,15 different properties were calculated for more than 1000 amorphous polymers.The MD-calculated properties were systematically compared with experimental data to validate the calculation conditions;the bias and variance in the MD-calculated properties were successfully calibrated by a machine learning technique.During the high-throughput data production,we identified eight amorphous polymers with extremely high thermal conductivity(>0.4 W∙m^(–1)∙K^(–1))and their underlying mechanisms.Similar to the advancement of materials informatics since the advent of computational property databases for inorganic crystals,database construction using RadonPy will promote the development of polymer informatics.

This paper proposes a framework for critical element identification and demolition planning of frame structures.Innovative quantitative indices considering the severity of the ultimate collapse scenario are proposed using reinforcement learning and graph embedding.The action is defined as removing an element,and the state is described by integrating the joint and element features into a comprehensive feature vector for each element.By establishing the policy network,the agent outputs the Q value for each action after observing the state.Through numerical examples,it is confirmed that the trained agent can provide an accurate estimation of the Q values,and handle problems with different action spaces owing to utilization of graph embedding.Besides,different behaviors can be learned by varying hyperparameters in the reward function.By comparing the proposed method and the conventional sensitivity index-based methods,it is demonstrated that the computational cost is considerably reduced because the reinforcement learning model is trained offline.Besides,it is proved that the Q values produced by the reinforcement learning agent can make up for the deficiencies of existing indices,and can be directly used as the quantitative index for the decision-making for determining the most expected collapse scenario,i.e.,the sequence of element removals.

BACKGROUND Situs inversus totalis(SIT)may be an incidental finding in asymptomatic children.Patients may not understand the implications of this condition and the importance of relaying the diagnosis to their healthcare providers.CASE SUMMARY We report an asymptomatic seventeen-year-old adolescent with previouslydiagnosed SIT who presented for a routine well-child visit.During history taking,he denied any past medical conditions,including cardiovascular conditions.Only when physical exam revealed point of maximal impulse and heart sounds on the right side,did he convey that he had been diagnosed with SIT incidentally at age of 12 years.He was not aware of associated conditions or the potential implications of his diagnosis,nor did he realize it is pertinent medical history to be relayed to healthcare providers.Chest X-ray confirmed dextrocardia and abdominal X-ray showed right-sided stomach.Abdomen sonogram showed left-sided liver and right-sided spleen.Echocardiogram showed normal valvular structure and function.A comprehensive discussion was provided to address the patient’s lack of understanding that SIT is a medical diagnosis with potential implications.CONCLUSION While SIT is rare and mostly asymptomatic,affected patients may not comprehend the importance of the diagnosis and its potential ramifications.Recognition of the patient’s lack of awareness allows the healthcare provider to educate the patient and hopefully can prevent potential medical and surgical complications.

Effects of pore interconnectivity on bone regeneration in carbonate apatite blocks

Porous architecture in bone substitutes,notably the interconnectivity of pores,is a critical factor for bone ingrowth.However,controlling the pore interconnectivity while maintaining the microarchitecture has not yet been achieved using conventional methods,such as sintering.Herein,we fabricated a porous block using the crystal growth of calcium sulfate dihydrate,and controlled the pore interconnectivity by limiting the region of crystal growth.The calcium sulfate dihydrate blocks were transformed to bone apatite,carbonate apatite(CO_(3)Ap)through dissolution–precipitation reactions.Thus,CO_(3)Ap blocks with 15%and 30%interconnected pore volumes were obtained while maintaining the microarchitecture:they were designated as CO_(3)Ap-15 and CO_(3)Ap-30,respectively.At 4 weeks after implantation in a rabbit femur defect,new bone formed throughout CO_(3)Ap-30,whereas little bone was formed in the center region of CO_(3)Ap-15.At 12 weeks after implantation,a large portion of CO_(3)Ap-30 was replaced with new bone and the boundary with the host bone became blurred.In contrast,CO_(3)Ap-15 remained in the defect and the boundary with the host bone was still clear.Thus,the interconnected pores promote bone ingrowth,followed by replacement of the material with new bone.These findings provide a useful guide for designing bone substitutes for rapid bone regeneration.
