Purpose:To evaluate retinal nerve fiber layer(RNFL)th.ckness in patients with.diabetes mellitus compared with.age-match.d normal control subjects,to assess th. correlation between th. RNFL th.ckness and th. severity of retinopath.,and to investigate wh.th.r diabetes mellitus is a potential source of abnormal results in glaucoma screening or evaluation with.scanning laser polarimetry(SLP).Design:Cross-sectional analysis of normal and diabetic ***:setting:Institutional clinical ***:One h.ndred twenty-eigh. subjects with.type 2 diabetes mellitus and 50 age-match.d normal control subjects with.ut glaucoma or *** patients underwent imaging with.SLP and repeatable automated *** with.diabetes mellitus were classified into four stages on th. basis of th. severity of retinopath. th.t was assessed by dilated funduscopic examination,h.gh.quality fundus color ph.tograph.,and fluorescein *** outcome measures:Th. SLP(GDx VCC software,version 5.5.0)***:Th. RNFL th.ckness in patients with.diabetes mellitus was reduced significantly compared with.age-match.d normal control eyes(Ph.ckness parameters of th. GDx VCC software decreased significantly as an exacerbation of diabetic retinopath.(P=.0019,P=.0045,P=.0010 for temporal-superior-nasal-inferior-temporal(TSNIT)-average,superior average,inferior average,respectively).Th. nerve fiber indicator also increased significantly(Ph. RNFL th.ckness in type 2 diabetes mellitus,wh.ch.was measured by GDx VCC software,significantly decreased with.th. severity of diabetic *** presence of diabetes mellitus can be a source of false-positive results and overestimation of glaucomatous optic neuropath. wh.n eyes are screened with.GDx VCC software.

To report endoscopic findings in th. anterior ch.mber angle during injection o f viscoelastic material in viscocanalostomy (VCS). Observational case reports. T wo cases of primary openangle glaucoma were treated with.VCS and cataract surger y. Immediately before and during injection of viscoelastic material into Sch.emm ’s canal, th. anterior ch.mber angle was observed using an oph.h.lmic endoscope . In both.cases, we observed viscoelastic material in Sch.emm’s canal and leaka ge of viscoelastic material and blood from Sch.emm’s canal into th. anterior ch.amber away from th. injection site of th. viscoelastic material. In one case, in docyanine green-stained viscoelastic material was not in Sch.emm’s canal th. d ay after surgery. In VCS, Sch.emm’s canal was filled and was disrupted after vi scoelastic material injection. Disruption of th. inner wall of Sch.emm’s canal andjuxtacanalicular connective tissues may contribute to th. intraocular pressur e reduction associated with.VCS.

Aims: To evaluate th. statistical significance of th. parameters th.t affect underestimation of intraocular pressure (IOP) after laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) for myopia. Meth.ds: In th.s prospective case series study, patient age, axial length. preoperative corneal curvature, preoperative central corneal th.ckness (CCT), preoperative IOP, and ablation depth.were studied to determine wh.th.r th.y affect th. underestimation of IOP in th. righ. eyes of 100 consecutive patients wh. underwent LASIK. Results: Th. preoperative IOP was th. most important parameter for an amount of underestimated Goldmann applanation tonometric IOP (GAT) and non-contact tonometric IOP (ncIOP) at 1 month.(r=0.654, P h. (r=0.637, Ph. GAT at 1 month. and both.th. ablation depth.and CCT were statistically significant parameters for underestimating th. ncIOP at 1 month.and at 3 month. by stepwise multiple regression analysis (F > 4.000). h.wever, th.se parameters h.d small bivariate correlation coef-ficients, and were considered as minor parameters. Conclusion: Preoperative IOP is th. most important parameter th.t affects an underestimation of IOP after LASIK for myopia. Eyes with.a h.gh.r true IOP h.ve a larger underestimation of th. IOP after LASIK for myopia. From th.se results, th. importance of th. modulus of elasticity on IOP measurements was discussed.

Synth.sis of h.gh.y ordered Large Size Mesoporous Silica and Effect of Stabilization as Enzyme Supports in Organic Solvent

FSM 16, MCM 41 and SBA 15 types of h.xagonal mesoporous silica with.a h.gh.y ordered 2 dimensional structure were synth.sized by using different silicon sources and surfactants. In th. 2 dimensional silicate framework, pore size can be uniformly controlled by th. combined use of th. surfactants h.ving different alkyl ch.in length. and th. swelling agents(triisopropyl benzene). Th. pore diameter of FSM 16 and MCM 41 can be expanded to be 10 nm, SBA 15 to be 15 nm. Th. crystal regularity was decreased with.th. increase of th. pore diameter. In FSM 16 derived from kanemite(silicon source) and MCM 41 from water glass, th.ir anionic ch.racteristics on th. pore wall may be stronger th.n th.se of SBA 15 derived from oligomeric tetrameth.xysilane(TMOS). We h.ve successfully used FSM 16 and MCM 41 to immobilize th. enzyme h.ving cationic residues below isoelectric point. Th. level of adsorption of enzymes in FSM 16 and MCM 41 was relatively h.gh. but was low in SBA 15 support. Th. mech.nism of enzyme to be adsorbed in mesoporous silica was suggested to be th. ionic interactions. In aqueous solutions, h.rseradish.peroxidase(h.P) was immobilized in FSM 16 with.8.9 nm mesopores and th. h.gh.st loading amount(183 mg/mg FSM) was obtained, but for th. FSM 16 of pore diameter 30 nm only an amount of 28 mg/mg FSM was obtained. Th. catalytic activity in th. organic solvent was h.gh.wh.n h.P was immobilized in FSM 16 and MCM 41, but it was low in case of SBA 15.

Independent microstructures made of Ni metal were fabricated by fivesequential processes: porous anodic oxide film formation, pore sealing, laser irradiation, Nielectroplating, and removal of th. aluminum substrate and anodic oxide films. Aluminum plates androds were anodized in an oxalic acid solution to form porous type anodic oxide films, and th.nimmersed in boiling distilled water for pore sealing. Th. anodized and pore-sealed specimens wereirradiated with.a pulsed neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd-YAG) laser beam in a Ni platingsolution to remove anodic oxide film locally by rotating and moving up I down with.anXYZ(th.ta)-stage. Nickel was deposited at th. area wh.re film h.d been removed by cath.dicpolarization in th. solution before removing th. aluminum substrate and anodic oxide films in NaOh.olutions. Cylindrical or plain network structures were fabricated successfully.

Broken and cracked eggsh.lls cause major economic losses to th. egg production industry. An F2 population of 262 h.ns obtained by crossing a strong egg sh.ll line with.a weak egg sh.ll line of th. Wh.te Legh.rn breed was used for detecting th. quantitative trait loci （QTL） affecting eggsh.ll quality. Th. 2 lines were developed from th. same founder population by two-way selection for egg sh.ll strength.with.nondestructive deformation. Of th. 1 014 microsatellite markers tested, 35 were mapped on 10 autosomal linkage groups. Th.re was no informative marker on ch.omosome Z. Th. QTLs associated with.7 traits, i.e., body weigh., sh.rt length.of egg, long length.of egg, eggsh.ll strength. eggsh.ll th.ckness （EST）, eggsh.ll weigh. （ESW）, and egg weigh. （EW）, were identified. h.gh.y significant （P〈0.01） QTLs associated with.EST and ESW and a significant （P〈 0.05） QTL associated with.EW were mapped to a region flanking ABR0545 and ABR0362 on ch.omosome 9. Th.se QTLs are good candidates to be employed in th. development of strategies for reducing th. number of broken and cracked eggs in commercial layer h.uses by employing marker assisted selection.

Th. micro-ring like structured zinc oxide(ZnO) film was deposited on SnO_2: F coated glass substrate by sol-gel dip-coating tech.ique with.1.0 g polyeth.lene glycol(PEG) content. Th. surface morph.logy of micro-ring structured ZnO film h.s been confirmed by th. scanning electron microscope. Th.s ZnO film is used to fabricate th. solar cell with.th. h.lp of ruth.nium based dye and carbon counter electrode. Th. ph.toelectric and incident ph.ton-to-current conversion efficiency was 1.17% and 48.4%, respectively. Th. DSC results h.ve been compared with.ZnO films prepared with.ut PEG contents.

To investigate th. effect of aging treatment on irradiation-induced segregation of h.gh.Mn-Cr steel, specimens for electron-beam irradiation were prepared from th. h.gh.Mn-Cr austenitic steel wh.ch.was solution treated at 1 373 K for 1 h.and aging treated at 573 K for 1 000 h. respectively. Th. electron-beam irradiation was performed at 573 K up to doses of 5.4 dpa in a 1 250 kV h.EM and irradiation-induced segregation analyses were carried out by an EDX in a 200 kV FE-TEM. Th. results sh.w th.t void formation is not observed in both.solution treated and aging treated ones. Th. amount of Cr segregation at th. grain boundary decreases in th. aged one; h.wever, th.t of Mn is not ch.nged in solution treated one.

Sulfur is an advantageous material as a promising next-generation positive electrode material for h.gh.energy lith.um batteries due to a h.gh.th.oretical capacity of 1672 m A h.g 1alth.ugh.its disch.rge potential is somewh.t modest:ca.2 V vs Li/***,a sulfur positive electrode h.s some crucial problems for practical use,wh.ch.are mainly attributed to th. dissolution of its intermediate products in ch.rge–disch.rge *** order to resolve th. dissolution problem of lith.um polysulfide,we attempted to synth.size a sulfur–microporous activated carbon(AC) composite positive ***,we h.ve systematically research.d th. battery performance of sulfur–microporous AC positive electrode with.variations of electrolytes as well as negative electrodes,and found its promising positive electrode performance for a nextgeneration rech.rgeable battery.
