FSM 16, MCM 41 and SBA 15 types of hexagonal mesoporous silica with a highly ordered 2 dimensional structure were synthesized by using different silicon sources and surfactants. In the 2 dimensional silicate framework, pore size can be uniformly controlled by the combined use of the surfactants having different alkyl chain lengths and the swelling agents(triisopropyl benzene). The pore diameter of FSM 16 and MCM 41 can be expanded to be 10 nm, SBA 15 to be 15 nm. The crystal regularity was decreased with the increase of the pore diameter. In FSM 16 derived from kanemite(silicon source) and MCM 41 from water glass, their anionic characteristics on the pore wall may be stronger than those of SBA 15 derived from oligomeric tetramethoxysilane(TMOS). We have successfully used FSM 16 and MCM 41 to immobilize the enzyme having cationic residues below isoelectric point. The level of adsorption of enzymes in FSM 16 and MCM 41 was relatively high, but was low in SBA 15 support. The mechanism of enzyme to be adsorbed in mesoporous silica was suggested to be the ionic interactions. In aqueous solutions, horseradish peroxidase(hTP) was immobilized in FSM 16 with 8.9 nm mesopores and the highest loading amount(183 mg/mg FSM) was obtained, but for the FSM 16 of pore diameter 30 nm only an amount of 28 mg/mg FSM was obtained. The catalytic activity in the organic solvent was high when hRP was immobilized in FSM 16 and MCM 41, but it was low in case of SBA 15.

Independent microstructures made of Ni metal were fabricated by fivesequential processes: porous anodic oxide film formation, pore sealing, laser irradiation, Nielectroplating, and removal of the aluminum substrate and anodic oxide films. Aluminum plates androds were anodized in an oxalic acid solution to form porous type anodic oxide films, and thenimmersed in boiling distilled water for pore sealing. The anodized and pore-sealed specimens wereirradiated with a pulsed neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd-YAG) laser beam in a Ni platingsolution to remove anodic oxide film locally by rotating and moving up I down with anXYZ(theta)-stage. Nickel was deposited at the area where film had been removed by cathodicpolarization in the solution before removing the aluminum substrate and anodic oxide films in NaOhsolutions. Cylindrical or plain network structures were fabricated successfully.

Broken and cracked eggshells cause major economic losses to the egg production industry. An F2 population of 262 hens obtained by crossing a strong egg shell line with a weak egg shell line of the White Leghorn breed was used for detecting the quantitative trait loci （QTL） affecting eggshell quality. The 2 lines were developed from the same founder population by two-way selection for egg shell strength with nondestructive deformation. Of the 1 014 microsatellite markers tested, 35 were mapped on 10 autosomal linkage groups. There was no informative marker on chromosome Z. The QTLs associated with 7 traits, i.e., body weight, short length of egg, long length of egg, eggshell strength, eggshell thickness （EST）, eggshell weight （ESW）, and egg weight （EW）, were identified. highly significant （P〈0.01） QTLs associated with EST and ESW and a significant （P〈 0.05） QTL associated with EW were mapped to a region flanking ABR0545 and ABR0362 on chromosome 9. These QTLs are good candidates to be employed in the development of strategies for reducing the number of broken and cracked eggs in commercial layer houses by employing marker assisted selection.

To investigate the effect of aging treatment on irradiation-induced segregation of high Mn-Cr steel, specimens for electron-beam irradiation were prepared from the high Mn-Cr austenitic steel which was solution treated at 1 373 K for 1 h and aging treated at 573 K for 1 000 h, respectively. The electron-beam irradiation was performed at 573 K up to doses of 5.4 dpa in a 1 250 kV hVEM and irradiation-induced segregation analyses were carried out by an EDX in a 200 kV FE-TEM. The results show that void formation is not observed in both solution treated and aging treated ones. The amount of Cr segregation at the grain boundary decreases in the aged one; however, that of Mn is not changed in solution treated one.

CZ-Si and FZ-Si single crystal specimens were irradiated by electron beam with energy of 1MV in hVEM at temperatures between 298K and 773K. It was found that irradiated defects were easier to produce in Si single crystal containing oxygen than in Si containing hydrogen. The defects had a larger density and shorter incubation time in Si containing oxygen. The bar-like defects, stacking faults and loops were along 110 direction. Bar-like defects and stacking faults were Burgers vector 116 direction type and the stacking faults were on the (113) plane.
