Influences of spinel type and polymer.c sur.actants on the size evolution of colloidal magnetic nanocr.stals （MFe2O4, M = Fe, Mn）

Two types of polymer.c sur.actants, PEG300 and PVP40000, wer. used for.the pr.par.tion of magnetic fer.ite MFe2O4 （M- Mn, Fe） colloidal nanocr.stals using a solvother.al r.action method. The effect of spinel type effect on the size evolution of var.ous nanopar.icles was investigated. It was found that Fe3O4 nanopar.icles exhibited higher.cr.stalinity and size evolution than MnFe2O4 nanopar.icles with use of the two sur.actants. It is pr.posed that this obser.ation is due to fewer.tendencies of sur.actants on the sur.ace of Fe3O4 building blocks nanopar.icles than MnFe2O4. Less amounts of sur.actant or.capping agent on the sur.ace of nanopar.icles lead to the higher.cr.stalibity and lar.er.size. It is also suggested that the type of spinel （nor.al or.inver.ed spinel） plays a key r.le on the affinity of the polymer.c sur.actant on the sur.ace of building blocks.
