Direct Synthesis of Molybdenum Phosphide Nanorods on Silicon Using Graphene at the Heterointerface for Efficient Photoelectrochemical Water Reduction

Transition metal phosphides(TMPs)and transition metal dichalcogenides(TMDs)have been widely investigated as photoelectrochemical(PEC)catalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction(HER).Using high-temperature processes to get crystallized compounds with large-area uniformity,it is still challenging to directly synthesize these catalysts on silicon photocathodes due to chemical incompatibility at the ***,a graphene interlayer is applied between p-Si and MoP nanorods to enable fully engineered interfaces without forming a metallic secondary compound that absorbs a parasitic light and provides an inefficient electron path for hydrogen ***,the graphene facilitates the photogenerated electrons to rapidly transfer by creating Mo-O-C covalent bondings and energetically favorable band *** a bridging role of graphene,numerous active sites and anti-reflectance of MoP nanorods lead to significantly improved PEC-HER performance with a high photocurrent density of 21.8 mA cm−2 at 0 V versus RHE and high ***,low dependence on pH and temperature is observed with MoP nanorods incorporated photocathodes,which is desirable for practical use as a part of PEC *** results indicate that the direct synthesis of TMPs and TMDs enabled by graphene interlayer is a new promising way to fabricate Si-based photocathodes with high-quality interfaces and superior HER performance.

Increased susceptibility of ethanol-treated gastric mucosa to naproxen and its inhibition by DA-9601, an Artemisia asiatica extract

AIM： To examine the effect of DA-9601, a new gastroprotective agent, on the vulnerability of ethanoltreated rat＇s stomach to naproxen （NAP）. METHODS： Male Sprague-Dawley rats were pretreated with 1 mL of 50% ethanol twice a day for 5 d and then NAP （50 mg/kg） was administered. DA-9601 was admin- istered 1 h before NAP. Four hours after NAP, the rats were killed to examine gross injury index （mm2）, histologic change and to determine mucosal levels of malondialdehyde （MDA）, prostaglandin E2 （PGE2）, glutathione （GSH） and myeloperoxidase （MPO）. RESULTS： Pretreatment of ethanol significantly increased NAP-induced gastric lesions, as well as an increase in NDA and MPO. On the contrary, mucosal PGE2 and GSH contents were decreased dramatically by ethanol pretreatment, which were aggravated by NAR DA-9601 significantly reduced NAP-induced gastric injury grossly and microscopically, regardless of pretreatment with ethanol. DA-9601 preserved, or rather, increased mucosal PGE2 and GSH in NAP-treated rats （P〈0.05）, with reduction in mucosal MDA and MPO levels. CONCLUSION： These results suggest that repeated alcohol consumption renders gastric mucosa more susceptible to NSAIDs though, at least in part, reduction of endogenous cytoprotectants including PGE2 and GSH, and increase in MPO activation, and that DA-9601, a new gastroprotectant, can reduce the increased vulnerability of ethanol consumers to NSAIDs-induced gastric damage via the mechanism in which PGE2 and GSH are involved.

This study represents the influence on exhaust performance by active muffler valve *** main experimental parameters were engine speeds and torsion coil spring constants in the active *** the muffler valve spring has a low spring constant of k=0.75,the sound pressure level was low at the region of engine speed 2000 to 2500 r/min,and the velocity of exhaust gas was high at spring constant k=*** the engine speed was under 1500 r/min,the mean concentration of CO was high in case without muffler *** the engine speed in the range of 1600 to 2600 r/min with spring constant k=0.75,the mean HC concentration showed the lowest *** muffler valve,the temperature in the muffler was higher than the case with muffler *** research represented that the performance of the active muffler valve spring constant k=0.75 was higher than that without muffler valve and valve spring constant k=*** the three cases of experimental condition,with a spring constant k=0.75,0.70 and without muffler valve,the exhaust performance was high in case active muffler valve spring constant k=0.70.

Bioinspired urease-powered micromotor as an active oral drug delivery carrier in stomach

Self-propelling micro-and nano-motors(MNMs)have been extensively investigated as an emerging oral drug delivery carrier for gastrointestinal(GI)tract ***,the propulsion of current MNMs reported so far is mostly based on the redox reaction of metals(such as Zn and Mg)with severe propulsion gas generation,remaining non-degradable residue in the GI ***,we develop a bioinspired enzyme-powered biopolymer micromotor mimicking the mucin penetrating behavior of Helicobacter pylori in the *** converts urea to ammonia and the subsequent increase of pH induces local gel-sol transition of the mucin layer facilitating the penetration into the stomach tissue *** successful fabrication of micromotors is confirmed by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy,electron energy loss spectroscopy,dynamic light scattering analysis,zeta-potential *** acidic condition,the immobilized urease can efficiently converted urea to ammonia,comparable with that of neutral condition because of the increase of surrounding pH during *** administration into the stomach,the micromotors show enhanced penetration and prolonged retention in the stomach for 24 ***,histological analysis shows that the micromotors are cleared within 3 days without causing any toxicity in the GI *** enhanced penetration and retention of the micromotors as an active oral delivery carrier in the stomach would be successfully harnessed for the treatment of various GI tract diseases.

Acupuncture for Bell's Palsy:A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

Objective： To assess the clinical evidence for and against acupuncture as a treatment for Bell＇s palsy. Methods： We conducted a literature search of 15 databases from their inception to December 2010 without language restrictions. We included all randomized clinical trials （RCTs） regardless of their controls. Methodological quality was evaluated using the Cochrane risk of bias assessment tool. Results： Of the 3 474 articles, only eight RCTs met our inclusion criteria. Four RCTs tested the effects of acupuncture against drug therapy on disease response rate. The meta-analysis of these data showed significant improvements in the acupuncture group [n=463, risk ratio （RR）=1.07, 95% CI： 1.02 to 1.13; P=0.006, I^2=0%]. Six RCTs tested the effects of acupuncture plus drug therapy versus drug therapy alone. The meta-analysis of this set of RCTs also showed the favorable effects of acupuncture on disease response rate （n=512, RR=1.11, 95% CI： 1.05 to 1.17; P=0.001, I^2=13%）. Conclusions： The evidence supporting the effectiveness of acupuncture for treating Bell＇s palsy is limited. The number and quality of trials are too low to form firm conclusions. Further rigorous RCTs are warranted but need to overcome the many limitations of the current evidence.

Aqueous extract of Protaetia brevitarsis larvae increases mTOR-mediated growth rate in zebrafish larvae

Objective:To evaluate the effects of an aqueous extract of Protaetia brevitarsis(AEPB)on the growth of zebrafish and preosteoblast MC3T3-E1 ***:The effects of AEPB on the linear growth and the expression of growth-related genes in zebrafish and MC3T3-E1 cells were assessed using various molecular ***,the involvement of the mammalian target of rapamycin(mTOR)pathway in AEPB-induced growth was investigated by employing the mTOR inhibitor ***:AEPB administration led to a significant and dose-dependent increase in zebrafish larvae growth over ***,AEPB treatment upregulated the expression of growth hormone-1(GH-1),insulin-like growth factor-1(IGF-1),growth hormone receptor-1(GHR-1),and cholecystokinin-a(CCKA)in ***,AEPB stimulated the expression and release of IGF-1 and accelerated mTOR expression in MC3T3-E1 *** addition,rapamycin hindered AEPB-induced linear growth in zebrafish larvae and suppressed the expression of growth-promoting genes by inhibiting mTOR ***:AEPB shows growth-promoting effects by upregulating growth-related genes and activating the mTOR signaling *** investigations are warranted to elucidate its mechanisms of action and explore its potential application in the development of growth-enhancing supplements for various purposes.

Improved impact resistance of PDC and test of it in laboratory

A study is performed on a newly developed Polycrystalline Diamond Cutter(PDC) with improved impact *** resistance of PDC is dependent on diamond grain size,binder content and property of the substrate.A crack might initiate in the substrate by the impact transferred from the diamond layer if substrate is not tough enough to absorb *** failure is caused by the residual stress at the interface resulting from the difference of thermal expansion coefficient between diamond and substrate. This kind of failure could be reduced to some extent by optimizing the grain size of WC and content of Co in the *** with much improved impact resistance is produced by also optimizing the diamond size and the content of binder phase in the layer. Drop-test with different conditions of energy and speed are carried out on the newly developed PDC and wear resistance test is done and the result is compared with that of previous PDC. It is found that the newly developed PDC shows 40%better impact resistance than previous PDC.

Isolation, identification, Pb(Ⅱ) biosorption isotherms and kinetics of a lead adsorbing Penicillium sp. MRF-1 from South Korean mine soil

A heavy metal contaminated soil sample collected from a mine in Chonnam Province of South Korea was found to be a source of heavy metal adsorbing biosorbents. Chemical analyses showed high contents of lead （Pb） at 357 mg/kg and cyanide （CN） at 14.6 mg/kg in the soil. The experimental results showed that Penicillium sp. MRF-1 was the best lead resistant fungus among the four individual metal tolerant fungal species isolated from the soil. Molecular characterization of Penicillium sp. MRF-1 was determined using ITS regions sequences. Effects of pH, temperature and contact time on adsorption of Pb（Ⅱ） by Penicillium sp. MRF-1 were studied. Favorable conditions for maximum biosportion were found at pH 4 with 3 hr contact time. Biosorption of Pb（Ⅱ） gradually increased with increasing temperature. Efficient performance of the biosorbent was described using Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. Adsorption kinetics was studied using pseudo first-order and pseudo second-order models. Biosorbent Penicillium sp. MRF-1 showed the maximum desorption in alkali conditions. Consistent adsorption/desorption potential of the biosorbent in repetitive cycles validated the efficacy of it in large scale. SEM studies given notes on surface modification of fungal biomass under metal stress and FT-IR results showed the presence of amino groups in the surface structure of the biosorbent. In conclusion, the new biosorbent Penicillium sp. MRF- 1 may potentially be used as an inexpensive, easily cultivatable material for the removal of lead from aqueous solution.

Effect of itopride, a new prokinetic, in patients with mild GERD: A pilot study

AIM： Itopride is a newly developed prokinetic agent, which enhances gastric motility through both antidopaminergic and anti-acetylcholinesterasic actions. The importance of esophageal motor dysfunction in the pathogenesis of gastro-esophageal reflux disease （GERD） makes it interesting to examine the effect of itopride on esophageal acid ***： The effect of itopride on esophageal acid reflux variables for 24 h was studied in 26 patients with GERD symptoms, pre-entry total acid exposure time （pH〈4） of more than 5% and mild esophagitis （SavaryMiller grades I, II） proven by endoscopy. Ambulatory 24hpH-metry and symptom assessment were performed after treatments with 150 or 300 mg itopride thrice a day （t.i.d.） for 30 d in random order, using an open label *** evaluating the safety of itopride, blood biochemical laboratory test was performed and the serum prolactin level was also examined before and after ***： Total symptom score was significantly decreased after treatment in 150- or 300-mg group. Itopride 300 mg was significantly effective than 150 mg on decreasing the total per cent time with pH〈4, total time with pH〈4 and DeMeester score. No serious adverse effects were observed with administration of itopride in both ***： Itopride 100 mg t.i.d, is effective on decreasing pathologic reflux in patient with GERD and therefore it has the potential to be effective in the treatment of this disease.
