Integration of chemical fractionation, Mosbauer spectrometry, and magnetic methods for identification of Fe phases bonding heavy metals in street dust

Street dust is one of the most important carriers of heavy metals(HMs)originating from natural and anthropogenic *** main purpose of the work was to identify which of Fe-bearing phases bind HMs in street *** parameters of the Fe-bearing components,mainly magnetically strong iron oxides,are used to assess the level of HM *** sequential extraction combined with magnetic methods(magnetic susceptibility,magnetization,remanent magnetization)allowed determining the metal-bearing fractions and identifying the iron forms that aremostly associated with traffic-related *** use of Mossbauer spectrometry(MS)supplemented bymagnetic methods(thermomagnetic curves and psarameters of hysteresis loops)enabled precise identification and characterization of iron-containing *** classification of HMs into five chemical fractions differing in mobility and bioaccessibility revealed that iron is most abundant(over 95%)in the residual fraction followed by the reducible *** were present in reducible fraction in the following order:Pb>Zn>Mn>Cr>Ni>Fe>Cu,while they bound to the residual fraction in the following order:Fe>Ni>Cr>Mn>Pb>Cu>*** signature of the anthropogenic origin of street dust is the presence of strongly nonstoichiometric and defected grains of magnetite and their porous *** also occurs as an admixture with maghemite,and with a significant proportion of hematite.A distinctive feature of street dust is the presence of metallic iron and iron *** methods are efficient in the screening test to determine the level ofHMpollution,while MS helps to identify the iron-bearing minerals through the detection of iron.

Extensive Air Showers(EAS)induced by cosmic ray particles of very low energies,owing to the significantly steep cosmic ray energy spectrum,dominate the secondary particle flux measured by single detectors and small shower *** arrays connected in extended networks can be used to determine potentially interesting spatial correlations between showers,which may shed new light on the nature of ultra high-energy cosmic *** quantitative interpretation of showers recorded by small local arrays requires a methodology that differs from that used by ordinary large EAS arrays operating in the"knee"region and *** present"small EAS generator,"a semi-analytical method for integrating cosmic ray spectra over energies of interest and summing over the mass spectra of primary nuclei in arbitrary detector ***,we provide results on the EAS electron and muon fluxes and particle density spectra.

In this paper, both Fritz John and Karush-Kuhn-Tucker necessary optimality conditions are established for a （weakly） LU-efficient solution in the considered nonsmooth multiobjective programming problem with the multiple interval-objective function. Further, the sufficient optimality conditions for a （weakly） LU-efficient solution and several duality results in Mond-Weir sense are proved under assumptions that the functions constituting the considered nondifferentiable multiobjective programming problem with the multiple interval- objective function are convex.

Recently,Garai et al.(2022)published a paper on the impact of orientation of blast initiation on ground ***,some of the claims are not supported by the results of the given *** Fig.1(see Fig.8 in Garai et al.,2022),there are contours of measured vibration velocities in 4 directions(every 90?)and an incorrect interpretation between *** placing all measured vibration velocity values(Gerai et al.,2022)at well-defined points on a single figure,it was not possible to precisely determine the type of vibration velocity,such as radial,tangential and vertical vibration velocities,with their different *** incorrect conclusion was also drawn about the direction of the highest vibration *** paper by Garai et al.(2022)measured the vibrational velocity of the medium through which the seismic wave passed,but used the incorrect term shock *** shock wave would have destroyed the seismic measuring instruments.A superposition of the vibrational velocity was considered,but not combined with the vibrational frequency of the seismic *** paper presents a method for selecting the time delay between successively initiated explosive charges to the measured frequency of the seismic wave,so that the direction of initiation of the explosive charges does not affect the vibration velocity of the ground through which the seismic wave *** theoretical and measured shapes and waveforms of radial velocity and tangential velocity in an opencast lignite mine are then ***,the conditions for the formation of shock wave,transition wave and seismic waves are presented.

An efficient FEM for pressure analysis of oil film in a piston pump

The paper concerns numerical analysis of pressure distribution of an oil film on the valve plate in the variable height gap of an axial piston pump. The analysis employs the finite element method. For determination of oil pressure variations in the gap, the Reynolds equation, commonly applied in the theory of lubrication, is applied. The equation is solved numerically with the use of self-developed program based on the finite element method. In order to obtain high accuracy of the results, an adaptive mesh refinement based on residual estimations of solution errors is applied. The calculation results are represented as dependent on the geometric and working parameters of the pump.

Foraminiferal micro-buildups(“reefs”)in the Wuchiapingian basin facies of the basal Zechstein carbonates in western Poland

Encrusting foraminifers locally can play an essential reef-forming role such as in the Carnian fossiliferous Hallstatt Limestones of Austria where a dense succession of hardgrounds occurs with numerous small buildups(up to 2 cm high)composed of sessile *** foraminiferal micro-buildups occur in a 10-cm-thick bed in the basinal facies in the basal Zechstein(Upper Permian)strata in the Radlin 60 borehole,in western *** micro-buildups of presumably columnar habit account for up to a half of the *** growth of columns was interrupted by hiatal surfaces,although usually the growth of columns was restored *** the upper part of the bed with foraminiferal micro-buildups,the foraminiferal encrustations become visibly less abundant,and in most cases,they have a shape of less regular *** bed with foraminiferal micro-buildups abounds in closely spaced discontinuity(hiatal)surfaces,occasionally encrusted by *** foraminifers in the bed with foraminiferal micro-buildups are accompanied by various encrusting organisms,possibly microbes;they are grouped under the name *** the intercolumnar spaces,common Midiella *** deposition,the conditions were mostly suboxic,and various types of ferruginous morphs,common in the lower part of the bed,suggest that dysoxic-anoxic interfaces produced various microaerophilic environments for *** environmental conditions during the deposition of the upper part of the bed were very similar to those characterizing the starved basin environment in which the bioclastic-peloidal and oncoidal sediments in the Zechstein Limestone have been *** turn,the lower part of the bed registers the transition from normal(=not starved)marine conditions,with a clear chemocline,to the starved basin *** deposition of the bed was coeval with the Kupferschiefer deposition based on the correlation ofδ13C curves,which implies that the previous str

STRAIN-GRADIENT STRESS ANALYSIS IN SAINT-VENANT BENDING

Light beam deflections caused by stress or strain gradients are inves- tigated analytically and experimentally in homogeneous beam specimens which are subjected to a particular case of flexure with shear. This study is a generalization of the prior an alytical-experimental examination of strain-gradient light deflections produced in stressed plates, which had concentrated on the simplest case where in- formation of interest is collected along a line of symmetry of the stress field. Main purpose of the present investigation is to document the efficacy of the strain-gradient method in analysis of the general case of stress state. The most interesting stress state is that in a beam subjected to the Saint-Venant bending, where the transversal and the longitudinal axes of the beam are in pure shear. The obtained results are compared with the predictions of the developed analytical models and with the pre- dictions of Filon's stress function. The procedures of evaluating the photoelastic and material coefficients using strain-gradient techniques were tested positively.

The effect of learning on the evolution of new courtship behavior： A simulation model

The fact that individuals learn can change the relationship between genotype and phenotype in the population, and thus affect the evolutionary response to selection. Here we ask how male ability to learn from female response affects the evolu- tion of a novel male behavioral courtship trait trader pre-existing female preference （sensory drive）. We assume a courtship trait which has both a genetic and a learned component, and a two-level female response to males. With individual-based simulations we show that, under this scenario, learning generally increases the strength of selection on the genetic component of the courtship trait, at least when the population genetic mean is still low. As a consequence, learning not only accelerates the evolution of the courtship trait, but also enables it when the trait is costly, which in the absence of learning results in an adaptive valley. Further- more, learning can enable the evolution of the novel trait in the face of gene flow mediated by immigration of males that show superior attractiveness to females based on another, non-heritable trait. However, rather than increasing monotonically with the speed of learning, the effect of learning on evolution is maximized at intermediate learning rates. This model shows that, at least under some scenarios, the ability to learn can drive the evolution of mating behaviors through a process equivalent to Wadding- ton＇s genetic assimilation .

Marine transgression(s) to evaporite basin:The case of middle Miocene (Badenian) gypsum in the Central Paratethys, SE Poland

The middle Miocene Badenian evaporite basin of the Carpathian Foredeep Basin was a saline lake, separated by a barrier from the sea and supplied with seawater seeping through the barrier or overflowing it occasionally in the form of short-lived marine transgressions. Such transgressions could leave behind marine microfossils in marly clay intercalations. One of them(2.3 m thick) occurs in the uppermost part of the sulphate sequence, in the unit ‘o’, in the Babczyn 2 borehole section. It contains marine palynomorphs(dinoflagellate cysts) and foraminiferal assemblages indicating a marine environment. The low-diversity benthic foraminiferal assemblages are dominated by opportunistic, shallow infaunally living species, preferring muddy or clayey substrate for thriving, brackish to normal marine salinity, and inner shelf environment. Dinoflagellate cyst assemblages, although taxonomically impoverished, consist of marine species;euryhaline forms that tolerate increased salinity are missing. Relatively common microfossils found in clay intercalations within gypsum have important palaeogeographical implications:they strongly suggest that there existed an additional inflow channel supplying the Polish Carpathian Basin from the south during the evaporite deposition and afterwards.
