This paper presents a new method for obtaining network properties from incomplete data sets. Problems associated with missing data represent well-known stumbling blocks in Social Network Analysis. The method of “estimating connectivity from spanning tree completions” (ECSTC) is specifically designed to address situations where only spanning tree(s) of a network are known, such as those obtained through respondent driven sampling (RDS). Using repeated random completions derived from degree information, this method forgoes the usual step of trying to obtain final edge or vertex rosters, and instead aims to estimate network-centric properties of vertices probabilistically from the spanning trees themselves. In this paper, we discuss the problem of missing data and describe the protocols of our completion method, and finally the results of an experiment where ECSTC was used to estimate graph dependent vertex properties from spanning trees sampled from a graph whose characteristics were known ahead of time. The results show that ECSTC methods hold more promise for obtaining network-centric properties of individuals from a limited set of data than researchers may have previously assumed. Such an approach represents a break with past strategies of working with missing data which have mainly sought means to complete the graph, rather than ECSTC’s approach, which is to estimate network properties themselves without deciding on the final edge set.

Purpose: The primary aim of this study was to develop an assessment of the fundamental, combined, and complex movement skills required to support childhood physical literacy. The secondary aim was to establish the feasibility, objectivity, and reliability evidence for the ***: An expert advisory group recommended a course format for the assessment that would require children to complete a series of dynamic movement skills. Criterion-referenced skill performance and completion time were the recommended forms of evaluation. Children, 8–12 years of age, self-reported their age and gender and then completed the study assessments while attending local schools or day camps. Face validity was previously established through a Delphi expert(n = 19, 21% female) review process. Convergent validity was evaluated by age and gender associations with assessment performance. Inter-and intra-rater(n = 53, 34% female) objectivity and test–retest(n = 60, 47% female) reliability were assessed through repeated test ***: Median total score was 21 of 28 points(range 5–28). Median completion time was 17 s. Total scores were feasible for all 995 children who self-reported age and gender. Total score did not differ between inside and outside environments(95% confidence interval(CI) of difference:-0.7 to 0.6;p = 0.91) or with/without footwear(95%CI of difference:-2.5 to 1.9; p = 0.77). Older age(p < 0.001, η2= 0.15) and male gender(p < 0.001, η2= 0.02)were associated with a higher total score. Inter-rater objectivity evidence was excellent(intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC) = 0.99) for completion time and substantial for skill score(ICC = 0.69) for 104 attempts by 53 children(34% female). Intra-rater objectivity was moderate(ICC = 0.52) for skill score and excellent for completion time(ICC = 0.99). Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) represents one of the most aggressive and metastatic brain tumors, with a dismal success rate of less than three percent after five years, particularly in tumors with active immune checkpoints. This necessitates the development of targeted endogenous agents for precise GBM treatment. Previous experiments utilizing Chemovar Specific Cannabis Extractions (CSCEs), fractionated with polar solvents and quantified using Liquid and Gas Column Chromatography combined with Mass Spectrometry (LC/GCMS), have shown reduced viability and motility in human GBM cell lines. However, the complexity of the botanical substance has hindered the personalization of standard cannabis medicines for GBM due to unknown synergistic effects of multiple compounds. To address this limitation, our study focuses on exposing AM251 cells to chemovar fractions extracted using a non-polar solvent, thereby isolating a broader spectrum of constituents. By employing LC/GCMS in conjunction with Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), we have identified and quantified nine* compounds present in the non-polar CSCE that exhibit significant efficacy (0.1 μM) in inducing cytotoxicity* in GBM tumor cells. Conversely, the polar fraction in our experiment did not demonstrate efficacy against UM251 cells. The quantification of individual compounds within a cannabis extraction that selectively induces cell death in brain tumors holds promise for guiding future research and facilitating the development of a standardized CSCE for GBM therapy.

Rats have been the primary model to study the process and underlying mechanisms of recovery after spinal cord injury. Two weeks after a severe spinal cord contusion, rats can regain weight-bearing abilities without therapeutic interventions, as assessed by the Basso, Beattie and Bresnahan locomotor scale. However, many human patients suffer from permanent loss of motor function following spinal cord injury. While rats are the most understood animal model, major differences in sensorimotor pathways between quadrupeds and bipeds need to be considered. Understanding the major differences between the sensorimotor pathways of rats, non-human primates, and humans is a start to improving targets for treatments of human spinal cord injury. This review will discuss the neuroplasticity of the brain and spinal cord after spinal cord injury in rats, non-human primates, and humans. A brief overview of emerging interventions to induce plasticity in humans with spinal cord injury will also be discussed.

随着全球化的到来,越来越多的国际公司进入全球市场进而改变了国际贸易格局,原产国这一概念再次引起了研究者的关注。由于原产国对消费者行为产生影响,特别是在产品评价和购买决策中更是如此,原产国成为学者们广泛研究的课题。近年来,中国已成为菲律宾第一大贸易伙伴,菲律宾对智能手机需求的不断增长使该国成为中国制造电子设备的一个有吸引力的市场。由于与原产国对菲律宾用户的影响的相关信息人们缺乏了解,因此有必要对这一主题进行调查,以更深入地揭示其细节。本研究旨在确定原产国是否影响菲律宾消费者对中国智能手机的购买意愿。本文尝试以原产国的决定因素如国家形象、感知质量、品牌熟悉度等角度来探讨消费者对这些产品的感知,并分析这些变量与购买意愿的相关性。通过便利抽样,共有257名调查者参与了一份自助在线调查问卷。为确保问卷的可靠性,设置该问卷时,参考了以前类似研究的项目。调查结果显示,总体而言,大多数受访者认为中国的形象正面,产品质量好,对中国智能手机品牌比较熟悉。购买意向方面的平均值也表明,大多数受访者有购买中国智能手机的意向。通过皮尔逊相关分析和假设检验,我们可以证实预先确定的变量与购买意愿存在明显的关系,另外我们也可以看出菲律宾消费者将原产国作为评价的线索。对于生产中国产品与提供中国服务的商业组织而言,本研究成果将为其提供新的消费者视角。参与国际贸易的各国政府和公司应共同合作,以此来提高对本国品牌和出口产品的积极感知度,特别是在对COO效应高度敏感的国外市场。

Intraoperative Nerve Monitoring in Otolaryngology: A Survey of Clinical Practice Patterns

Introduction: Intraoperative nerve monitoring is used in otolaryngology to assist in identification of nerves at risk. It is hoped that this will lead to lower rates of nerve injury. The objective of this study was to quantify the use of monitoring technology in current clinical practice. Method: An electronic survey was distributed to 376 registered fellows of the Australian Society of Head and Neck Surgery. Results: One-hundred and twenty-five responses were obtained. The majority of respondents report using monitoring at least some of the time during thyroid, parotid, and mastoid surgery (80%, 87%, and 73% respectively). Predictors of use include experience with intraoperative monitoring during training, and high caseloads in parotid surgery. Practice setting did not predict use. Conclusion: Despite equivocal evidence that intraoperative nerve monitoring is associated with a reduction in nerve injuries, this study demonstrates that the technology is widely used amongst otolaryngologists.

Solid Particle Resuspension Model Development for the GASFLOW Code

Tons of solid particles, like carbon, beryllium and tungsten with diameters of several to several hundreds microns, would be generated as dusts in vacuum vessel during operation of ITER, In accident scenarios, e.g., loss of vacuum accident, the potentially combustible dust particles can be suspended by the air ingress and entrained into the whole vessel, and impose a risk of dust explosions to the whole facility. Therefore, the mechanism of particle resuspension was investigated theoretically. A force balance approach and numerical fittings have been utilized to develop a semi-empirical particle resuspension model based on a group of particle resuspension experimental data. The model has been applied into a three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics code, GASFLOW. The model validation has been done by comparison of the numerical predictions about particle resuspension rates in given incoming flows against the corresponding experimental data. The comparisons have proved the validity of the developed model.
