Solvent Extraction of Niobium from Alkali Solution by Methyltrioctylammonium Chloride

For the purpose of developing an alkali leaching solvent extraction directly from alkali solution process, the extraction of niobium from alkali solution by long chain alkyl quaternary ammonium salt (methyltrioctylammonium chloride R 4NCl) in toluene was investigated. The experiments were carried out under conditions of 25 ℃, Nb(Ⅴ) concentration 0.01 mol/L, pH 10.7 13.8, R 4NCl concentration 0.02 0.14 mol/L. It has been found that the distribution ratio of niobium increases with increasing R 4NCl concentration and with decreasing KCl concentration, but it shows maximum value at pH value of about 12 and decreases below or above this pH value. Distribution ratio of niobium goes up to over 1 000 in appropriate conditions, and so it has been proved that R 4NCl is an effective extractant for extraction of niobium from alkali solution.

Solubility of Nb 2O 5 and leaching behaviors of Nb and Ta from niobite in KOH solution have been investigated in order to develop an alkali hydrothermal leaching process of Nb and Ta. The solubility of Nb 2O 5 was measured in the range of 40 ℃ to 200 ℃ at various molar ratios of K 2O to Nb 2O 5 ( n (K 2O)/ n (Nb 2O 5)). It has been found that Nb 2O 5 shows the maximum solubility at the solution composition of n (K 2O)/ n (Nb 2O 5)=4/3 at a given temperature; the rise of temperature increases the solubility of Nb 2O 5 below 120 ℃, but decreases it above 120 ℃. The leaching behaviors of Nb and Ta were studied in the range of 150 ℃ to 250 ℃ and 0.1 MPa to 5 MPa. With the rise of temperature, the leaching degree increases when the leaching temperature is below 200 ℃, but it decreases when the leaching temperature is above 200 ℃. The maximum leaching degree is about 90% at 200 ℃. It was proved that the alkali hydrothermal leaching process is effective for the recovery of Nb and Ta from niobite concentrate.

Background: The neural representation of the body is easily altered by integrating multiple sensory signals in the brain. The “Rubber Hand Illusion” (RHI) is one of the most popular experimental paradigms to investigate this phenomenon. During this illusion, ownership of a rubber hand is temporarily induced. It was shown that external and continuous cooling of the palm enhanced the RHI, suggesting an association between altered the autonomic nervous system regulation and altered the sense of ownership of a specific limb. Purpose: To investigate whether artificially cooling the entire hand for a short period affects the magnitude of the illusion. Methods: Participants immersed their entire hand in cool, cold, or warm water for 1 min before the RHI procedure. Results: We found that cooling the entire hand enhanced the proprioceptive drift during the RHI but not the subjective feeling of ownership. In contrast, warming and intense cooling of the entire hand did not affect the RHI strength. Conclusion: Our results suggest that transient and moderate cooling of the entire hand was sufficient in enhancing the illusory disembodiment of one’s own hand.
