In recent decades, the take-off mechanisms of flying animals have received much attention in insect flight initiation. Most of previous works have focused on the jumping mechanism, which is the most common take-off mechanism found in flying animals. Here, we presented that the rhinoceros beetle, Trypoxylus dichotomus, takes offwithout jumping. In this study, we used 3-Dimensional （3D） high-speed video techniques to quantitatively analyze the wings and body kinematics during the initiation periods of flight. The details of the flapping angle, angle of attack of the wings and the roll, pitch and yaw angles of the body were investigated to understand the mechanism of take-off in T. dichotomus. The beetle took off gradually with a small velocity and small acceleration. The body kinematic analyses showed that the beetle exhibited stable take-off. To generate high lift force, the beetle modulated its hind wing to control the angle of attack; the angle of attack was large during the upstroke and small during the downstroke. The legs of beetle did not contract and strongly release like other insects. The hind wing could be con- sidered as a main source of lift for heavy beetle.

Gully erosion is a disruptive phenomenon which extensively affects the Iranian territory,especially in the Northern provinces.A number of studies have been recently undertaken to study this process and to predict it over space and ultimately,in a broader national effort,to limit its negative effects on local *** focused on the Bastam watershed where 9.3%of its surface is currently affected by *** learning algorithms are currently under the magnifying glass across the geomorphological community for their high predictive ***,unlike the bivariate statistical models,their structure does not provide intuitive and quantifiable measures of environmental preconditioning *** cope with such weakness,we interpret preconditioning causes on the basis of a bivariate approach namely,Index of ***,we performed the susceptibility mapping procedure by testing three extensions of a decision tree model namely,Alternating Decision Tree(ADTree),Naive-Bayes tree(NBTree),and Logistic Model Tree(LMT).We dichotomized the gully information over space into gully presence/absence conditions,which we further explored in their calibration and validation *** the presence/absence information and associated factors identical,the resulting differences are only due to the algorithmic structures of the three models we *** differences are not significant in terms of performances;in fact,the three models produce outstanding predictive AUC measures(ADTree=0.922;NBTree=0.939;LMT=0.944).However,the associated mapping results depict very different patterns where only the LMT is associated with reasonable susceptibility *** is a strong indication of what model combines best performance and mapping for any natural hazard-oriented application.

Nanowires/nanorods of europium/terbium orthophosphate monohydrate with Eu^3＋ concentration of 6, 11, and 20 at.% were prepared by microwave synthesis method. The effects of Eu^3＋ doping concentration on structure, morphology and optical properties of nanomaterials were also investigated. The results showed that, for all studied Eu^3＋ doping concentrations, a single-crystalline phase of rhabdophane-type （Eu,Tb）po4·H2O nanowires/nanorods was obtained by using microwave heating of an aqueous solution of terbium（Ⅲ） nitrate, europium（Ⅲ） nitrate and NH4H2po4 with pH=2. The length and width of these nanowires/nanorods ranged from 150 to 300 nm and from 10 to 50 nm, respectively. The evidence of energy transfer from Tb^3＋ to Eu^3＋ due to the energy overlap between the donor Tb^3＋ and the acceptor Eu^3＋was observed obviously via a significant enhancement in the luminescent intensity of Eu^3＋. Two- and Three-Dimensional Simulations of Beetle Hind Wing Flapping during Free Forward Flight

Aerodynamic characteristic of the beetle, Trypoxylus dichotornus, which has a pair of elytra （forewings） and hind wings, is numerically investigated. Based on the experimental results of wing kinematics, two-dimensional （2D） and three-dimensional （3D） computational fluid dynamic simulations were carried out to reveal aerodynamic performance of the hind wing. The roles of the spiral Leading Edge Vortex （LEV） and the spanwise flow were clarified by comparing 2D and 3D simulations. Mainly due to pitching down of chord line during downstroke in highly inclined stroke plane, relatively high averaged thrust was produced in the free forward flight of the beetle. The effects of the local corrugation and the camber variation were also investigated for the beetle＇s hind wings. Our results show that the camber variation plays a significant role in improving both lift and thrust in the flapping. On the other hand, the local corrugation pattern has no significant effect on the aerodynamic force due to large angle of attack during flapping.

Objective:To investigate the efficacy of frankincense and myrrha in the treatment of acute interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome(IC/PBS).Methods:The effects of frankincense and myrrha on the proliferation and migration of primary human urothelial cells(HUCs)were assessed in *** the animal study,48 virgin female rats were randomized into 4 groups(12 in each group):(1)control group(saline-injected control);(2)cyclophosphamide(CYP)group(intraperitoneal injected 150 mg/kg CYP);(3)CYP+pentosan polysulfate sodium group(orally received 50 mg/kg pentosan polysulfate sodium);and(4)CYP+frankincense and myrrha group[orally received frankincense(200 mg/kg)and myrrha(200 mg/kg)].Rats orally received pentosan polysulfate sodium or frankincense and myrrha on day 1,2,and *** experiments were performed on day *** and cystometry assessment behavior test were *** interval values were assessed in rats under ***,immunohistochemistry and Western blot were used to confirm the location and level,respectively,of cell junction-associated protein zonula occludens-2(ZO-2)***:Low dose frankincense and myrrha increased cell proliferation and migration in HUCs compared with control(Ppolysulfate and frankincense+myrrha groups compared with the CYP-induced acute IC/PBS group(P<0.05).Conclusion:frankincense and myrrha modulate urothelial wound healing,which ameliorates typical features of acute IC/PBS in rats.

BACKGROUND Acute stress might increase short-term heart rate variability and blood pressure variability(BPV);however,chronic stress would not alter short-term BPV in animal *** To examine the association of psychological stress with long-term BPV in young male *** We prospectively examined the association of chronic psychological stress with long-term BPV in 1112 healthy military males,averaged 32.2 years from the cardiorespiratory fitness and hospitalization events in armed forces study in *** stress was quantitatively evaluated with the Brief Symptom Rating Scale(BSRS-5),from the least symptom of 0 to the most severe of 20,and the five components of anxiety,insomnia,depression,interpersonal sensitivity,and hostility(the severity score in each component from 0 to 4).Longterm BPV was assessed by standard deviation(SD)for systolic and diastolic blood pressure(SBP and DBP),and average real variability(ARV),defined as the average absolute difference between successive measurements of SBP or DBP,across four visits in the study period from 2012 to 2018(2012-14,2014-15,2015-16,and 2016-18).RESULTS The results of multivariable linear regressions showed that there were no correlations of the BSRS-5 score with SDSBP,SDDBP,ARVSBP,and ARVDBP after adjusting for all the covariates[β(SE):-0.022(0.024),-0.023(0.026),-0.001(0.018),and 0.001(0.020),respectively;P>0.05 for all].In addition,there were also no correlations between each component of the BSRS score and the long-term BPV *** Our findings suggest that chronic psychological stress might not be associated with long-term BPV in military young male humans.

There has been considerable interest in commercializing fruits of Garcinia humilis due to its pleasant taste and nutritional ***,the industrial processing of the fruit generates the peel as waste and this study focussed on upcycling of the peel for its anti-melanoma activity at different extraction conditions(24℃ and 37℃ for 24 h,and 70℃ for 1 h).Although the extraction yield was highest at 70℃,the phenolics and flavonoids extracted,and anti-cancer activity was highest when extracted at 37℃.polyphenolic compounds including epicatechin,procyanidins,mangostanol,and gamma-mangostin were tentatively identified based on LC-Orbitrap MS/MS *** extracts showed dose-dependent anti-melanoma activity on MM418C1(BRAF mutated oncogene)and D24(wild type BRAF oncogene)cells with IC_(50) in the range of 130-200μg/mL and 122-176μg/***,the extracts had little effect on control fibroblast cells,indicating selective activity on cancer cells,and displayed morphological changes indicative of *** these extracts were 10 fold less effective compared to anti-cancer drug controls,cisplatin and vemurafenib,the moderate anti-cancer activity of Garcinia peel provides future opportunities for upcycling of this discarded waste as a functional food ingredient.

AIM To investigate the association of chronic hepatitis B and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis with physical fitness in a Taiwan Residents military male *** We made a cross-sectional examination of this association using 3669 young adult military males according to cardiorespiratory fitness and hospitalization events recorded in the Taiwan Armed Forces study. Cases of chronic hepatitis B(n = 121) were defined by personal history and positive detection of hepatitis B surface antigen. Cases of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(n = 129) were defined by alanine transaminase level > 60 U/L, liver ultrasound finding of steatosis, and absence of viral hepatitis A, B or C infection. All other study participants were defined as unaffected(n = 3419). Physical fitness was evaluated by performance in 3000-m run, 2-min sit-ups, and 2-min push-ups exercises, with all the procedures standardized by a computerized scoring system. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to determine the *** Chronic hepatitis B negatively correlated with 2-min push-up numbers(β =-2.49, P = 0.019) after adjusting for age, service specialty, body mass index, systolic and diastolic blood pressures, current cigarette smoking, alcohol intake status, serum hemoglobin, and average weekly exercise times. Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis was borderline positively correlated with 3000-m running time(β = 11.96, P = 0.084) and negatively correlated with 2-min sit-up numbers(β =-1.47, P = 0.040). CONCLUSION Chronic hepatitis B viral infection and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis affects different physical performances in young adult military males, and future study should determine the underlying mechanism.
