Spirematospermum is a well-known extinct zingiberalean taxon, characterized by trilocular capsules containing many distinctive, spirally striate and arillate seeds. It is frequently found and studied in European Neogene carpological floras, but is scarcely represented in East Asia floras. In this work we recognize a new fossil record of Spirematospermum wetzleri（Heer） Chandler based on the capsules and seeds from the Miocene of Weichang, Hebei Province, North China. These fossils represent the first record of the species in the Miocene of China. Fossil data indicate that Spirematospermum probably originated in the Late Cretaceous of North America or Central *** genus still existed in the Paleocene of North America, but became extinct after that time. However, the genus successively survived in Europe from the Eocene to Pliocene, and flourished luxuriantly during the Oligocene to Miocene. As there was Turgai Strait between Europe and Asia during the Eocene, the genus did not spread to Central Asia and West Siberia until the strait closed in the late Eocene/early Oligocene, and further expanded eastwardly to eastern Siberia, Russia, northern China and central Japan during the Miocene, but became extinct in Asia after the Miocene. The genus contracted its distribution to Europe in the Pliocene, and afterwards it became extinct in the world.

An increasing data indicates that altered microRNAs(miRNAs)participate in the radiation-induced DNA damage ***,a correlation of mRNA and miRNA profiles across the entire genome and in response to irradiation has not been thoroughly *** analyzed miRNA microarray data collected from HeLa cells after ionizing radiation(IR),quantified the expression profiles of mRNAs and performed comparative analysis of the data sets using target prediction algorithms,Gene Ontology(GO)analysis,pathway analysis,and gene network *** results showed that the altered miRNAs were involved in regulation of various cellular ***-gene network analyses revealed that miR-186,miR-106b,miR-15a/b,CCND1and CDK6 played vital role in the cellular radiation *** qRT-PCR,we confirmed that twenty-two miRNAs showed differential expression in HeLa cells treated with IR and some of these miRNAs affected cell cycle *** study demonstrated that miRNAs influence gene expression in the entire genome during the cellular radiation response and suggested vital pathways for further research.

AIM:To investigate the inhibitory effects of RNA interference (RNAi) on expression of matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) gene and invasiveness and adhesion of human pancreatic cancer cell line,***:RNAi was performed using the vector (pGPU6)-based small interference RNA (siRNA) plasmid gene silence system to specifically knock down MMP-2 expression in pancreatic cancer cell line,BxPC-3. Four groups of different specific target sequence in coding region of MMP-2 and one non-specific sequence were chosen to construct four experimental siRNA plasmids of pGPU6-1,pGPU6-2,pGPU6-3 and pGPU6-4,and one negative control siRNA plasmid of pGPU6 (-). MMP-2 expression was measured by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and Western blot. Cell proliferation and apoptosis were examined by methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium (MTT) and flow cytometry,respectively. The abilities of adhesion and invasion were detected by cell adhesion assay and cell invasion assay using Transwell ***:The expression of MMP-2 was inhibited and the inhibitory effects of different sequence varied. pGPU6-1 group had the most efficient inhibitory effect,followed by pGPU6-2 and pGPU6-3 *** and adhesion were more significantly reduced in pGPU6-1,pGPU6-2 and pGPU6-3 groups as compared with pGPU6 (-) and blank control groups. However,no difference concerning cell proliferation and apoptosis was observed after transfection between experiment groups and control ***:RNAi against MMP-2 successfully inhibited the mRNA and protein expression of MMP-2 in the pancreatic cancer cell line,BxPC-3,leading to a potent suppression of tumor cell adhesion and invasion without affecting cell proliferation and apoptosis. These findings suggest that the RNAi approach towards MMP-2 may be an effective therapeutic strategy for the clinical management of pancreatic tumor.

BACKGROUND Fat embolism syndrome(FES)is a rare disease characterized by pulmonary distress,neurologic symptoms,and petechial rash and seriously threatens human life and *** is still neglected clinically because of the lack of verifiable diagnostic criteria and atypical clinical *** studies on FES with pulmonary embolism(PE)and tympanic membrane perforation have been reported to ***,we report a rare case of concomitant FES,PE and tympanic membrane perforation after surgery in a patient with a tibiofibular *** SUMMARY A 39-year-old man presented with right lower extremity pain due to a car accident while driving a motorbike on the road.X-ray and computed tomography scans revealed a fracture of the right mid-shaft tibia and proximal fibula categorized as a type A2 fracture according to the AO classification.A successful minimally invasive operation was performed 3 d after the ***,the patient developed sudden symptoms of respiratory distress and hearing *** diagnosis was made,and supportive treatments were used at the early stage of *** days after surgery,he presented a clear recovery from respiratory *** outcome of fracture healing was excellent,and his hearing of the left ear was mildly impaired at the last follow-up of 4 *** Concomitant FES,PE and tympanic membrane perforation are very rare but represent potentially fatal complications of trauma or orthopedic surgery and present with predominantly pulmonary *** diagnosis and treatment can reduce the mortality of FES,and prevention is better than a cure.

Ionizing radiation (IR) causes severe cellular damage both directly and indirectly and disrupts RNA integrity. RNA strand breaks are the most frequent type of damage caused by IR. RNA damage is involved in the development of degenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. However, the mechanism of mRNA damage and any resulting pathophysiological outcomes are poorly understood. This is partly because there is a lack of sensitive tools to monitor damage randomly occurring in RNA, especially RNA strand break damage in a given RNA. In this work, a method using the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) after poly(A) addition to 3′-end of RNA to determine RNA strand break damage in a specific RNA by poly(A) polymerase has been developed. The levels of damage in specific mRNAs, including ABL1, TP53, GADD45A and ATR from IR-treated HeLa cells were examined. Strand breaks were detected in all mRNAs examined. The study provides a novel and sensitive method based on 3 -end poly(A)-tailing RT-PCR to monitor RNA strand break damage.

Using the first-principles calculations,we study the structural,electronic,and magnetic properties along with exchange interactions and Curie temperatures for CrZrCoZ(Z=Al,Ga,In,Tl,Si,Pb)quaternary Heusler *** results show that the CrZrCoZ alloys are half-metallic ferrimagnets,and their total spin magnetic moments,which are mainly carried by the Cr atom,obey the Slater-Pauling *** of local density of states confirms that the exchange splitting between eg and t2g states leads to the formation of half-metallic *** to the calculated Heisenberg exchange coupling parameters,it is found that the Cr(A)-Cr(A)and Cr(A)-Zr(B)exchanges dominate the appearance of ferrimagnetic states in CrZrCoZ(Z=Al,Ga,In,Tl,Pb)alloys,and it is the Cr(A)-Zr(B)and Zr(B)-Zr(B)exchanges for CrZrCoSi ***,we estimate the Curie temperatures of CrZrCoZ by using mean-field approximation,it is found that the CrZrCoZ(Z=Al,Ga,In,Tl,Pb)alloys have noticeably higher Curie temperatures than room ***,we expect that the CrZrCoZ alloys are promising candidates in spintronic applications in future.
