AIM: To develop a novel three-dimensional(3D) electric ophthalmotrope to improve the ophthalmology teaching effectiveness and evaluate the teaching value. METHODS: A 3D electric ophthalmotrope was designed by simulating the movement of the ocular and the extraocular muscles according to Sherrington’s law. The model with joint bearing was to ensure the flexibility and centripetal rotation of the simulated ball and stepper motor as the driving device. A programmable processor was used to control the motion amplitude of the stepper motor. The size of hole was set at the back of the simulated shell to limit the amount of eye movement. Afterwards, using a 5-point Likert scale, 7 experts evaluated the 3D electric ophthalmotrope’s simulation ability and precision, compared with the traditional anatomical model. In addition, the teaching effectiveness of the 3D electric ophthalmotrope was evaluated at in-class quiz and final exam in a randomized controlled trial. RESULTS: The 3D electric ophthalmotrope could be operated easily to demonstrate the eye movements with motion of different ocular muscles. The experts agreed that the 3D electric ophthalmotrope was different from the traditional model and was easier for students to understand every extraocular muscles’ movement in each evaluation index(Pdel both at in-class quiz(Pdel, which can be to improve the ophthalmology teaching effectiveness for students to understand the extraocular muscles’ movement.

To the Editor： Anthrax is a zoonosis to which most mammals, especially herbivores, are considered susceptible. Humans almost invariably contract anthrax from handling infected animals, from carcasses of animals that have died from the disease, or from the meat, skin, hair, bones, etc., of such animals, Guizhou Province is a historical epicenter of anthrax in the southwest of China？ In June 2013, an epidemic suspected to be anthrax consisting of five human cases occurred in Wengan County. The clinical symptoms included erythema, papules, and vesicles on the skin of the hands and forearm, accompanied by tissue swelling, infiltration.

Alpine treeline ecotones are harsh environment for tree establishment due to low temperature. Tree establishment at treelines requires favorable climate, suitable microsites, and viable seeds. But most researches have been addressed treeline microclimate and its effects on tree regeneration, the knowledge of seed quantity and quality and its controls on seedling recruitment were limited. We measured seed rain, soil seed bank, seed germination rate and seedling recruitment in natural forests in combination with seed transplanting manipulation to evaluate the controls of seed quantity and quality on seedling recruitment of Abies georgei var. smithii （smith fir） along altitudinal gradient, with focus on treeline ecotone in the Sygera Mountains, southeastern Tibetan Plateau. Both seed quantity and seed quality of smith fir decreased with increasing altitude and was thereby associated with decline in seed germination rate. Seed quantity and seedling recruitment were better in north-facing slope than in south slope. The treeline ecotone above 42oo m appeared as the threshold altitude to sharply decrease seed quality and seedling recruitment. The emergence and overwintering rates of transplanting seeds from 3600-38oo m also went down remarkably above 4200 m at north-facing slope. It also underpins the fact that treeline ecotone is the bottleneck of seedling recruitment. Our results suggest that seed quantity and quality are the principal limitation of treeline upward advance. This study also provides evidence to support stable treeline position in southeastern Tibetan Plateau.

BACKGROUND Peroral endoscopic myotomy(POEM)is a promising therapeutic modality for esophageal achalasia ***,clinical failure and adverse events of POEM have still been *** To compare the efficacy and safety of a novel mark-guided POEM with standard *** A total of 133 patients with esophageal achalasia who underwent POEM from May 2013 to May 2019 were enrolled in this retrospective *** the 133 patients,there were 64 patients in the mark-guided POEM group and 69 patients in the standard POEM *** clinical success,procedural duration and adverse events were compared between the two groups at 3 mo,12 mo and 24 mo *** Characteristic baseline was similar in the mark-guided POEM group and standard POEM *** clinical success was comparable between the two groups,ranging from 92%to 98%,at 3 mo,12 mo and 24 mo postoperatively(all P>0.5).Eckart score,Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease Questionnaire score and SF-36 score were not different between the two groups after treatment(all P>0.05).No severe adverse events occurred in the two ***,markguided POEM required shorter procedural duration,and less use of proton pump inhibitors and lower incidence of reflux symptoms than the standard POEM(all Pded POEM and standard POEM were both effective and safe for the treatment of esophageal ***,the mark-guided POEM was characterized by shorter procedural duration,less use of proton pump inhibitors and lower incidence of reflux symptoms.

Polarimetry plays an important role in investigating physical properties for celestial objects. We present a polarimeter named YFPOL for the Cassegrain focus of the Lijiang 2.4 m Telescope(LJT) of Yunnan Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences. YFPOL is a traditional single-beam polarimeter with a rotating polarizer. As the focal-reducer instrument Yunnan Faint Object Spectrograph and Camera(YFOSC) is always positioned on the Cassegrain focal plane of LJT, we develop two sets of ultra-thin(thickness dentify that the IPCs change when the Cassegrain axis rotates. The spurious polarization from the IPCs can be effectively minimized by flat-fielding using the unpolarized domeflat, when the Cassegrain rotation angle is the same or nearest to that of the polarization observation. We develop a quasiautomatic pipeline for YFPOL and its effectiveness has been verified by tests of the polarimetric observation with blazar S5 0716+714. The calibration is performed by observing the zero-polarized and highly-polarized standard stars. We successfully reach high precision polarization in the 7’ field of view, and the systematic uncertainty is below 0.8% for a V = 11.68 target with a 10 s exposure. The instrument polarization angle offset is 2°. 6. YFPOL is not only a simple polarimeter, but also a spectropolarimeter with grisms that can be considered in the future.

BACKGROUND Over the past years, only few cases of follicular lymphoma diagnosed by laparoscopy have been reported in the world. Since follicular lymphoma related ascites often causes occult disease and lacks specific clinical manifestations, it is often difficult to identify the cause by routine laboratory tests and imaging methods. Diagnostic experience is not sufficient and more cases need to be accumulated for further *** SUMMARY Ascites due to unknown reasons often causes problems for clinical diagnosis and treatment. In this paper, we report one case with ascites in whom the reason causing ascites was not identified through routine examination. Laparoscopic examination of the celiac lesions and histological examination of the lesions were performed and the final diagnosis was peritoneal follicular *** Laparoscopic abdominal examination is of great significance for the definite diagnosis of ascites due to an unknown reason.
