Soil nutrient depletion as a result of continuous cultivation with insufficient external nutrient replenishment is a major challenge in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). A trial using the organic and mineral fertilizer was established in the cassava cropping system of the Pissa and Damara areas to address the declining soil fertility. the study aimed to evaluate the effect of cow manure and mineral fertilizer in combination or sole application on soil physico-chemical properties and macronutrients. the experimental trial adopted a randomized complete block design (RCBD) replicated four times. the treatments comprised of;t1 (Control), t2 (Peasant practice), t3 (sole NPK), and t4 (Cow manure + NPK). the data on soil physicochemical analysis was subjected to a one-way analysis of variance in SAS 9.4 and the mean was separated by tukey’s HSD test at p the soil pH values ranged from 4.20 to 4.91;and 4.53 to 5.28 in Pissa and Damara respectively. According to the treatments, a low pH value is observed in t3 (4.13) in the Pissa. Combined use of cow manure and the mineral fertilizer resulted in higher Mg K and N in the Pissa region and higher soil pH in Damara. the use of sole NPK (t3) gave a higher soil carbon and CN ratio. In the Pissa region the CEC, Cu, Fe, and Zn were higher in the treatments with mineral fertilizer compared to the control. Conclusively, the use of mineral fertilizer and cow manure can be used with optimum rates to improve soil physico-chemical properties on a sustainable basis.

Agricultural areas of land are deteriorating every day owing to population increase, rapid urbanization, and industrialization. to feed today’s huge populations, increased crop production is required from smaller areas, which warrants the continuous application of high doses of inorganic fertilizers to agricultural land. these cause damage to soil health and, therefore, nutrient imbalance conditions in arable soils. Under these conditions, the benefits of microbial inoculants (such as Actinobacteria) as replacements for harmful chemicals and promoting ecofriendly sustainable farming practices have been made clear through recent technological advances. there are multifunctional traits involved in the production of different types of bioactive compounds responsible for plant growth promotion, and the biocontrol of phytopathogens has reduced the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. there are some well-known groups of nitrogen-fixing Actinobacteria, such as Frankia, which undergo mutualism with plants and offer enhanced symbiotic *** addition to nitrogen fixation, increasing availability of major plant nutrients in soil due to the solubilization of immobilized forms of phosphorus and potassium compounds, production of phytohormones, such as indole-3-acetic acid, indole-3-pyruvic acid, gibberellins, and cytokinins, improving organic matter decomposition by releasing cellulases, xylanase, glucanases, lipases, and proteases, and suppression of soil-borne pathogens by the production of siderophores, ammonia, hydrogen cyanide, and chitinase are important features of Actinobacteria useful for combating biotic and abiotic stresses in *** positive influence of Actinobacteria on soil fertility and plant health has motivated us to compile this review of important findings associated with sustaining plant productivity in the long run.

BACKGROUND the regulatory factor X6 (RFX6), a member of regulatory factor X family, is known to play a key role in the development and differentiation of pancreatic beta cells as well as insulin production and secretion. However, the potential role of RFX6 in type 2 diabetes (t2D) is still unclear. AIM Recent studies have indicated that RFX6 binding to DNA could be disrupted in diabetes. therefore, in this study we investigated whether genetic mutations are present in the DNA binding domain of RFX6 gene that could abrogate its function in t2D. MEtHODS A cohort of t2D patients was enrolled in this study, and the gene encoding the DNA binding domain of RFX6 was amplified by polymerase chain reaction and then analysed by direct DNA sequencing. RESULtS the DNA sequence analysis revealed the absence of any exonic mutation. However, we have identified a new heterozygous single nucleotide polymorphism (IVS6+31 C>t) in the intronic region of DNA binding domain gene that is present in 9.2% and 8.5% of diabetic and control people, respectively (P = 0.97).CONCLUSION We report the absence of any significant genetic variant that could affect the function of RFX6-DNA binding domain in t2D.

Assessment of Geotechnical Properties of Lateritic Gravels from South-Cameroon Road Network

the southern road network covers the eastern, central and southern administrative regions;its linear network of national and provincial roads is about 5 620 km. It was the subject of a survey for the identification of lateritic quarries. to this effect, 144 sites have been discovered. the collected lateritic gravels were subjected to identification analyzes (Granulometry, Atterberg Limits, densimetry, water content) and geotechnical characterization tests (Proctor Modified, CBR at 95% OPM). the obtained results show that the grain size has a great percentage of gravels (>60%) followed by sand. Stones silt and clay particles are poorly represented. the samples show a high plasticity in conformity with Casagrande’s plasticity diagram. the density values of the solid particles (γ s) are quite stable in the studied area and vary between 26 and 29 KN/m3 for a natural water content comprised between 10% and 20%. the modified proctor test gives an optimal water value (Wop %) comprised between 8% and 12%. Dry density values (γ d) varied between 18 and 30 KN/m3. the bearing capacity of the materials is good (30 these results permit the recommendation of the studied materials as foundation layers of roads for traffic classes between t1-t4.

With the development of science and technology, the ultra-precision manufacturing of the brittle and hard materials with superior quality have become a new attractive subject. Brittle materials (such as engineering ceramics, optical glass, semiconductor and so on) are widely used in electronics, optics, aeronautics and other high technology fields, so there are important theory significance and practical value to systematically study its machining mechanism and technology. Single crystal silicon is one of the typical brittle materials. Single crystal silicon wafer is a basic component of large and ultralarge integrated the circuit, its surface roughness and flatness are the key factor of improving its integration. With the successfully producing of the large diameter single crystal silicon wafer, its manufacturing technology became attractive subject again. this paper carries out computer simulation of nanometer cutting on single crystal silicon. Molecular Dynamics method which is different from continuous mechanics is employed to investigate the features of grinding energy dissipation, grinding force, stress state and grinding temperature, constructs the atom model of tool and work piece, and explains the microscale mechanism of material remove and surface generation of nanometer(subnanometer) manufacturing. this paper also investigates the variation of cutting force, thrust force, specific energy and surface deformation with different tool edge radius, different depth of cut.

the widespread use of long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) is a major intervention method for malaria control. While coverage of LLINs has increased, there is a need for information on the operational effectiveness of nets deployed in the field in the context of malaria vector resistance to insecticides used for impregnation. the development of specific anti-malarial biomarkers to assess exposure to mosquito bites is an important development in evaluations. the aim of this study was to characterize the human IgG antibody response to Anopheles gSG6-P1 saliva, a salivary peptide antigen previously shown to be a relevant biomarker of human exposure to Anopheles bites, in order to assess the LLINs under field conditions in areas of low and high vector resistance to insecticides. We analyzed data from 240 randomly selected children ( 0.05). Furthermore, the same finding was observed for antibody expression in children whether or not they used LLINs on the day before the survey (p = 0.7724). Similarly, gender and especially age, major factors of variation in the adaptive immune response, did not have a significant effect on IgG expression.

Context: the resistance to pyrethroids in malaria vectors continues to grow in Africa and could therefore compromise or reduce substantially the effectiveness of LLINs in preventing malaria. It is therefore of paramount importance to evaluate the protective efficacy of LLINs in children sleeping in areas of vector resistance to insecticides in order to draw lessons for future interventions. this study assesses the effect of the use of LLINs on malaria morbidity in clusters of low and high resistance of vectors to pyrethroids. Methods: this is a cross-sectional case-control study with one control for one case that was conducted in the communes of Kétou, Ifangni, Kétou, and Pobè in the Plateau department of southern Benin. the use of LLINs and malaria morbidity was measured and compared in children from clusters of low and high vector resistance to insecticides. In each commune, 30 cases and 30 controls were recruited for a total of 240 children under 5 years of age from villages with low and high insecticide resistance. Results: According to the localities of origin of the children, of all parents of children surveyed, 169 (70.4%) asserted the children slept under an LLIN the day before they arrived at the health center. this rate represents 70.8% (85 children) among the cases and 70.0% (84 children) among the controls without significant difference (p = 0.8). the use of LLINs the day before the survey, the frequency of their use during the two weeks preceding the day of the survey, their availability at the household level, the use of other tools for protection against mosquito bites are the same in the two groups of children (cases and controls) (p > 0.05) as well in low and high resistance villages.
