Diabetes exacerbates inflammatory bowel disease in mice with dietinduced obesity

BACKGROUND the increased prevalence of inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)among patients with obesity and type 2 diabetes suggests a causal link between these diseases,potentially involving the effect of hyperglycemia to disrupt intestinal barrier *** to investigate whether the deleterious impact of diabetes on the intestinal barrier is associated with increased IBD severity in a murine model of colitis in mice with and without diet-induced *** mice were fed chow or a high-fat diet and subsequently received streptozotocin to induce diabetic-range *** weeks later,dextran sodium sulfate was given to induce *** select experiments,a subset of diabetic mice was treated with the antidiabetic drug dapagliflozin prior to colitis *** included both clinical and histological measures of colitis activity as well as histochemical markers of colonic epithelial barrier *** In mice given a high-fat diet,but not chow-fed animals,diabetes was associated with significantly increased clinical colitis activity and histopathologic markers of disease *** was also associated with a decrease in key components that regulate colonic epithelial barrier integrity(colonic mucin layer content and epithelial tight junction proteins)in diet-induced obese *** of these effects of diabetes in diet-induced obese mice was ameliorated by restoring *** In obese mice,diabetes worsened clinical and pathologic outcomes of colitis via mechanisms that are reversible with treatment of ***-induced intestinal barrier dysfunction offers a plausible mechanism linking diabetes to increased colitis *** findings suggest that effective diabetes management may decrease the clinical severity of IBD.

Sawdust which is basically considered as?a timber-industrial waste?that pollutes the environment can become a valuable commodity which is considered in three ways: manufacturing, Energy and Agricultural utilization. the sawdust is burnt in an updraft gasifier under a limited supply of air to obtain?producer gas which is carbon II oxide and hydrogen as main components. the sawdust and other biomass materials are mixed in certain proportions, then bound together and palletized to a small blocks called briquettes. the material?was also considered to be composted by mixing it with animal digestion or?wood ashes and calcium carbonate to form fertilizers. the sawdust and wood shavings can be used for particle board as well as oil production.

Introduction: Sorafenib is an orally active multikinase inhibitor approved for the treatment of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and is the only systemic treatment associated with a survival benefit in advanced stage. the aims of this study were to evaluate the tolerance and survival of sorafenib-treated patients, and to identify potential prognostic factors of survival. methods: A total of 88 HCC patients treated with sorafenib from June 2010 to January 2014 were retrospectively reviewed. tumour stage, liver function and adverse events to sorafenib were analyzed. Univariate and multivariate analysis were carried out to identify predictors of survival in patients with advanced HCC treated with sorafenib. Results: there were 64 (73%) males included in this study, with a median age of 61.16 years. Eight (91%) patients had Child-Pugh class A cirrhosis. most patients were classified as BCLC C (82%). Hepatitis C virus was the predominant cause of HCC (68%). Sorafenib was the initial treatment modality in 43%. median time of sorafenib therapy was 8.23 months. Overall survival in 1 year was 57.3% and 36.7% in 2 years. the median survival was 16.3 months. In the univariate analysis of the OS based on Child-Pugh score did not demonstrate a significant difference in our study (p = 0.62). the presence of dermatologic adverse event predicted a better overall survival in the multivariate analysis. Better survival was also observed in patients with AFP level ml in the start of sorafenib therapy (p = 0.001). Patients that used Sorafenib for ≥6 months had shown better outcome. None of the patients discontinued sorafenib because of adverse effects. Conclusions: Advanced HCC patients treated with sorafenib who experienced dermatologic adverse event and low AFP level ml showed better overall survival. As expected, longer sorafenib therapy (≥6 months) was associated to better survival. Even in the presence of adverse events, the use of sorafenib should be continu

Background:the pork industry faces unprecedented challenges from disease,which increases cost of production and use of antibiotics,and reduces production efficiency,carcass quality,and animal *** solution is to improve the overall resilience of pigs to a broad array of common diseases through genetic *** changes in feeding and drinking are usually the very first clinical signs when animals are exposed to stressors such as *** in feeding and drinking behaviors in diseased pigs may reflect the way they cope with the challenge and,thus,could be used as indicator traits to select for disease *** objectives of this study were to estimate genetic parameters of feeding and drinking traits for wean-to-finish pigs in a natural polymicrobial disease challenge model,to estimate genetic correlations of feeding and drinking traits with growth rate and clinical disease traits,and to develop indicator traits to select for disease ***:In general,drinking traits had moderate to high estimates of heritability,especially average daily water dispensed,duration,and number of visits(0.44 to 0.58).Similar estimates were observed for corresponding feeding traits(0.35 to 0.51).most genetic correlation estimates among drinking traits were moderate to high(0.30 to 0.92)and higher than among feeding traits(0 to 0.11).Compared to other drinking traits,water intake duration and number of visits had relatively stronger negative genetic correlation estimates with treatment rate and mortality,especially across the challenge nursery and finisher(−0.39 and−0.45 for treatment rate;−0.20 and−0.19 for mortality).Conclusion:most of the recorded drinking and feeding traits under a severe disease challenge had moderate to high estimates of heritability,especially for feed or water intake duration and number of *** and genetic correlations among the recorded feeding traits under disease were generally low but drinking traits show

Background: the importance of monitoring cognition during awake craniotomy has been well described in previous studies. the relevance of being coached during such a procedure has received less attention and questions still remain unanswered about what factors are the most important herein. Objective: the aim of this study was to qualitatively analyze what factors were, according to our patients, important in being coaching during awake craniotomy. methods: twenty-six patients who underwent awake craniotomy received a questionnaire about their experiences during the procedure. the questions concerned different aspects of the pre-operative part, the operation itself and coaching aspects. Answers were qualitatively analyzed by two investigators and per question, different answer categories were made. Results: two thirds of the 20 patients who responded to the questionnaire reported anxiety in the days before or during the operation, varying from general anxiety for being awake during surgery to anxiety for very specific aspects such as opening the skull. the constant presence of the neuropsychologist and a transparent communication during the procedure were most frequently (65% of all the answers) reported as helpful in staying calm. Conclusion: Results of this descriptive study show that patients experience different anxieties before and during an awake craniotomy and give more insight into what factors are important for patients in being coached during such an operation. this study gives directions for clinicians in improving their role as a coach.
