Fulminant liver failure models with subsequent encephalopathy in the mouse

BACkGROUND:A reliable model of fulminant liver failure (FLF) is urgently required in this research *** study aimed to develop a murine FLF ***:We used three groups of male C57BL/6 mice:control,with azoxymethane treatment (AOM group),and with galactosamine and tumor necrosis factor-alpha treatment (Gal+tNF-α group).the effects of body temperature (Bt) control on survival in all three groups were investigated Using Bt control,we compared the survival,histopathological findings and biochemical/coagulation profiles between the two experimental *** effects of hydration on international normalized ratios of prothrombin time (Pt INRs) were also ***-dependent survival curves were constructed for both experimental *** behavior was assessed using a coma ***:No unexpected Bt effects were seen in the control *** AOM group,but not the Gal+tNF-α group showed a significant difference in survival curves between those with and without Bt *** assessment showed consistent FLF findings in both experimental groups with Bt *** were significant differences between the experimental groups in aspartate aminotransferase levels and Pt-INRs,and significant differences in Pt-INRs between the sufficiently and insufficiently hydrated *** were significant differences between FLF models in the duration of each coma stage,with significant differences in stages 1 and 3 as percentages of the disease state (stages 1-4).the two FLF models with Bt care showed different survival curves in the dose-dependent survival ***:AOM provides a good FLF model,but requires a specialized environment and careful Bt *** FLF models may also be useful,depending on the research *** attention to caregiving and close observation are indispensable for successful FLF models.

AIM to establish a method of labeling anti hepatoma McAb (HAb18) Fab fragment modifier with 99m tc. MEtHODS HAb18 Fab was modified with 2 iminotholane and labeled with 99m tc by transchelation from 99m tc GH. Labeling yield, radiochemical purity and immunoreactivity were determined by thin layer chromatography (tLC SG), paper chromatography (PC), gel chromatography (GC) and cell binding assay, respectively. the nude mice bearing human hepatoma were used for radioimmunoimaging (RII). RESULtS A radiolabeling yield of 50%-80% was obtained, and immunoreactivity (IR) was 30%-40%. Radioimaging results showed that 99m tc HAb18 McAb Fab fragment was concentrated in the tumor 4-8 hours after injection, and the maximum concentration was seen in 12-24 hours, and the t/Nt value was 5 18 and 7 48 at 6h and 8h after the injection. CONCLUSION 99m tc HAb18 McAb Fab fragment could be specifically localized in the tumor of nude mice bearing human hepatocellular carcinoma within 24 hours and this method might be effectively used for labeling McAb Fab fragment with

Stage and size using magnetic resonance imaging and endosonography in neoadjuvantly-treated rectal cancer

AIM: to assess the stage and size of rectal tumours using 1.5 tesla (1.5t) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and three-dimensional (3D) endosonography (ERUS). MEtHODS: In this study, patients were recruited in a phaseⅠ/Ⅱ trial of neoadjuvant chemotherapy for biopsy-proven rectal cancer planned for surgical resection with or without preoperative radiotherapy. the feasibility and accuracy of 1.5t MRI and 3D ERUS were compared with the histopathology of the fixed surgical specimen (pathology) to determine the stage and size of the rectal cancer before and after neoadjuvant chemotherapy. A Philips Intera 1.5t with a cardiac 5-channel synergy surface coil was used for the MRI, and a B-k Medical Falcon 2101 EXL 3D-Probe was used at 13 MHz for the ERUS. Our hypothesis was that the staging accuracy would be the same when using MRI, ERUS and a combination of MRI and ERUS. For the combination, MRI was chosen for the assessment of the lymph nodes, and ERUS was chosen for the assessment of perirectal tissue penetration. the stage was dichotomised into stageⅠ and stage Ⅱ or greater. the size was measured as the supero-inferior length and the maximal transaxial area of the tumour. RESULtS: the staging feasibility was 37 of 37 for the MRI and 29 of 36 for the ERUS, with stenosis as a limiting factor. Complete sets of investigations were available in 18 patients for size and 23 patients for stage. the stage accuracy by MRI, ERUS and the combination of MRI and ERUS was 0.65, 0.70 and 0.74, respectively, before chemotherapy and 0.65, 0.78 and 0.83, respectively, after chemotherapy. the improvement of the post-chemotherapy staging using the combination of MRI and ERUS compared with the staging using MRI alone was significant (P = 0.046). the post-chemotherapy understaging frequency by MRI, ERUS and the combination of MRI and ERUS was 0.18, 0.14 and 0.045, respectively, and these differences were non-significant. the measurements of the supero-inferior length by ERUS compared with MRI w

Ultrasound curriculum taught by first-year medical students： A four-year experience in tanzania

BACkGROUND: Diagnostic imaging is an integral aspect of care that is often insufficient, if not altogether absent, in rural and remote regions of low to middle income countries(LMICs) such as tanzania. the introduction of ultrasound can significantly impact treatment in these countries due to its portability, low cost, safety, and usefulness in various medical assessments. this study reviews the implementation of a four-week ultrasound course administered annually from 2013–2016 in a healthcare professional school in Mwanza, tanzania by first-year allopathic US medical ***: Participants(n=582, over 4 years) were recruited from the tandabui Institute of Health Sciences and technology to take the ultrasound course. Subjects were predominantly clinical officer students, but other participants included other healthcare professional students, practicing healthcare professionals, and school employees. Data collected includes pre-course examination scores, post-course examination scores, course quiz scores, demographic surveys, and postcourse feedback surveys. Data was analyzed using two-tailed t-tests and the single factor analysis of variance(ANOVA).RESULtS: For all participants who completed both the pre-and post-course examinations(n=229, 39.1% of the total recruited), there was a significant mean improvement in their ultrasound knowledge of 42.5%, Pta suggests that trained first-year medical students can effectively teach a point of care ultrasound course to healthcare professional students within four weeks in tanzania. Future investigation into the level of long-term knowledge retention, impact of ultrasound training on knowledge of human anatomy and diagnostic capabilities, and how expansion of an ultrasound curriculum has impacted access to care in rural tanzania is warranted.

An impact of sintering temperature and doping level on structural and spectral properties of Eu-doped strontium aluminium oxide

In the present work, a sol-gel method was employed to prepare nanosized SrAl2O4 powders doped with Eu3＋ions. the raw nano- materials were thermally treated at 900 to 1100℃ for 3 h. the XRD analysis demonstrated that the powders were single-phase nanopowders with high crystallite dispersion. Our studies were focused on relating the luminescence properties of the Eu^3＋ dopant to the NC （nanocrystallites） size. this was achieved by varying the calcinations temperature between 900 and 1100 ℃. the average NC size varied accordingly between -36 and -75 nm. We found that size effect manifested mainly in the expansion of the cell volume and broadening of XRD peaks as indicated by Rietveld analysis. Moreover the emission and excitation spectra, although typical for Eu^3＋ ions, demonstrated some degree of variability with calcinations temperature and doping concentration. to explain these differences a detailed analysis of luminescence spectra by the Judd-Ofelt theory was performed.

A Longitudinal Study of Human Exposure to Potential Nuclear Power Plant Risk

this study constructs a potential risk index(PRI) for the 65 U.S.-based commercial nuclear power plant(NPP) sites in relation to their surrounding populations. Four risk levels are defined: low risk, moderate risk,high risk, and very high risk. Discrepancies that exist in the sociodemographic characteristics of the host communities’ populations are examined as sorted by risk-level *** is found that a greater percentage of minority groups are exposed to the highest levels of risk. In addition, percent 'Hispanic' and percent 'Other,'a grouping that includes multiracial, mixed, interracial, as well as Hispanic and Latino groups(for example, Mexican, Puerto Rican,Cuban, or Spanish) are categories that show the greatest percent change in both the period 1990–2000 and2000–2010.
