Development of cost effective personnel armour through structural hybridization

the objective of the present study is to develop cost effective thermoplastic hybrid laminate using Dyneema®HB50 and tensylon®HSBD 30A through structural hybridization *** having 20 mm thickness were fabricated and subjected to 7.6239 mm mild steel core projectile with an impact velocity of 730±10 ms*** such as energy absorption,back face deformation and rate of back face deformation were measured as a function of hybridization *** was observed that hybrid laminate with 50:50 ratio(w/w)of tensylon®and Dyneema®with tensylon®as front face showed 200%more energy absorption when compared to 100%tensylon®laminate and showed equal energy absorption as that of expensive 100%Dyneema®***,hybrid laminate with tD50:50 ratio showed 40%lower in terms of final back face deformation than Dyneema®*** of back face deformation was also found to be slow for hybrid laminate as compared to Dyneema®*** mechanical analysis showed that,tensylon®laminate has got higher stiffness and lower damping factor than Dyneema®and hybrid *** interface between tensylon®and Dyneema®layers was found to be separating during the penetration process due to the poor interfacial *** behaviour of laminates for different hybridization ratios were studied by sectioning the impacted *** was observed that,the tensylon®laminate has undergone shear cutting of fibers as major failure mode whereas the hybrid laminate showed shear cutting followed by tensile stretching,fiber pull out and *** inputs are highly useful for body armour applications to design cost effective armour with enhanced performance.

the perforated stiffened panel is generally found as a sub-component of sophisticated *** fundamental purpose of this panel is to withstand against buckling under complicated loading and environmental ***,an accurate knowledge of critical buckling behaviour of stiffened panels is very much essential for a reliable and lightweight structural *** this paper,the focus is on quasi-laminated panels with different cutout shapes of various sizes and their responses to hygrothermal environments under nonlinearly varying edge loads and is compared with the locally stiffened *** this,the modelling of the panel and stiffener is done by adopting nine-noded heterosis plate elements and three noded beam elements *** stiffener formulation is suitably modified in order to take the torsional effect also into consideration along with the effect of shear ***,the plate and the stiffener elements are treated separately,and then the displacement compatibility is maintained between them by using the transformation *** a given loading and geometric discontinuity,the stress distribution within the perforated panel is highly non-uniform in nature and hence a dynamic approach has been used to calculate buckling loads by adopting two sets of boundary conditions,one set for pre-buckling stress analysis and the second set for buckling *** different quasi-isotropic stacking sequences are deliberated in this work by varying different ply-orientation in each *** study also addresses the effect of various parameters such as nonlinear loads,hygro-thermal loads,cutout size and shapes,position of cutout,stiffener parameters,stacking sequences,thickness of plate and boundary conditions.

Forests are considered as a sacred asset in India and have guided the way of living throughout its *** forests not only accommodate the myriad species but also act as a survival support system to the communities that depended on *** 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development proposed by the United Nations(UN)has gained momentum and becomes an integral part of the recent efforts of Indian *** this investigation,we examined the potential nexus between Indian forestry system(biodiversity-enriched assets,ecosystem services,constitutional mechanisms,and governances)and Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs)through theoretical underpinnings from literature that selected from database like Google Scholar,Indian forest survey reports,and information retrieved from Indian government *** significance of this review is that it presents comprehensive information about Indian forestry,biodiversity-rich assets,and sustainable forest management *** results show that Indian forestry as a whole is an integral part of the food-energy-water cycle and contributes to all dimensions of sustainable development,i.e.,economic sustainability,social sustainability,and environmental *** investigation confirms that besides partly contributing to the economy and life support systems to many dependent species,forests also act as boosters in the areas of food security and *** related to the climate action,peace,and partnership goals are well in place through various forestry interventions and environmental commitments by the Government of India.

Optimal redundant placement of PMUs in Indian power grid -- northern, eastern and north-eastern regions

Effective utilization of renewable energy sources and efficient management of electric energy are essential for any developing countries like India. this can be envisioned through the implementation of concepts of smart grid （SG）. One of the key requisites for SG implementation is that the grid should be completely observable. Renovation of conventional Indian power grid to a SG necessitates incorporation of the phasor measure- ment units （PMUs） in the present power grid measurement and monitoring system. Since the cost of PMU is high and any bus containing a PMU makes the neighboring connected buses observable, optimal placement of PMUs is very important for complete observability of the grid. this paper proposes optimal redundant geographical locations in the northern, eastern and north-eastern regions of Indian power grid for PMU placement. the PMUs installed in these geographical locations will make the grid completely observable and maintain the observability under the conditions of failure of some PMUs or branch outages. Integer linear programming has been used for finding the optimal PMU locations. the results proposed in this paper can be a stepping stone for revamping the Indian power grid to a SG ensuring complete observability during different contingency conditions.

Efficient utilization of energy resources is essential for a developing country like India. the concept of smart grid （SG） can provide a highly reliable power system with optimized utilization of available resources. the present Indian power grid requires revolutionary changes to meet the growing demands and to make the grid smarter and reliable. One of the important requirements for SG is the instantaneous monitoring of the voltage, current and power flows at all buses in the grid. the traditional monitoring system cannot satisfy this requirement since they are based on nonlinear power flow equations. Synchro-phasor-measurement devices like phasor mea- surement units （PMUs） can measure the phasor values of voltages at installed buses. Consequently, the currents passing through all branches connected to that bus can be computed. Since the voltage phasor values at the neighboring buses of a bus containing the PMU can be estimated using Ohm＇s law, it is redundant to install PMUs at all the buses in a power grid for its complete observability. this paper proposes the optimal geographi- cal locations for the PMUs in southern region Indian power grid for the implementation of SG, using Integer Linear Programming. the proposed optimal geographical locations for PMU placement can be a stepping stone for the implementation of SG in India.

Dual inverter fed open end winding induction motor(IM)drive offers many advantages over other multilevel inverter fed IM *** width modulation(PWM)techniques are employed for the control of output voltage and *** vector base PWM techniques are popular among all the PWM techniques.A simplified space vector PWM method with simple and small look-up table approach is presented for dual inverter *** the proposed space vector based PWM technique provides freedom in selecting the center voltage vector(CVV)by which different PWM techniques will be *** implementation of all these PWM techniques is generalized by using a constant *** derived PWM techniques show superior performance in reducing the zero sequence voltage(ZSV)by maintaining the same quality of output *** performance of all these PWM techniques are evaluated theoretically and verified in real time through dSPACE 1104 control board.

Bilateral scleromalacia perforans and peripheral corneal thinning in Wegener's granulomatosis

A rare case of bilateral scleromalacia perforans, bilateral peripheral corneal thinning (contact lens cornea) and unilateral orbital inflammatory disease in a 50 year old female patient with an indolent form Wegener's granulomatosis(WG) involving lungs and sinuses is reported. the patient survived for 12 years after the initial diagnosis of systemic disease. there was perforation of left globe following trauma and no perforation of the right globe till the last follow up of the patient.

·AIM:to report a successful osteo-odonto keratoprosthesis(OOKP) procedure in a case of end stage of corneal blindness due to Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS).·MEtHODS:An interventional case report.·RESULtS:We describe a 35-year-old Indian woman,a known case of SJS with bilateral dry eyes and corneal blindness (failed corneal graft with vascularised total corneal opacity in the right eye and non-healing corneal ulcer in the left eye).Vision was hand movement only in both *** corneal ulcer healed with medical treatment resulting in vascularised total corneal opacity with no improvement in *** was performed in the right eye and the vision was improved from hand movement to 6/*** same vision was maintained in the right eye at the last follow-up 5 years after surgery.·CONCLUSION:OOKP provides good visual rehabilitation with long-term anatomically stable prosthesis in patients with end-stage of ocular surface disorders and corneal blindness secondary to SJS.·

Effect of Welding Processes and Consumables on tensile and Impact Properties of High Strength Quenched and tempered Steel Joints

Quenched and tempered steels are prone to hydrogen induced cracking in the heat affected zone after welding. the use of austenitic stainless steel consumables to weld the above steel was the only available remedy because of higher solubility for hydrogen in austenitic phase. In this investigation, an attempt was made to determine a suitable consumable to replace expensive austenitic consumables. two different consumables, namely, austenitie stain less steel and low hydrogen ferritic steel, were used to fabricate the joints by shielded metal are welding （SMAW） and flux cored arc welding （FCAW） processes. the joints fabricated by using low hydrogen ferritic steel consumables showed superior transverse tensile properties, whereas joints fabricated by using austenitic stainless steel consumables exhibited better impact toughness, irrespective of the welding process used. the SMAW joints exhibited superior mechanical and impact properties, irrespective of the consumables used, than their FCAW counterparts.

Characterization and Effect of Using Mahua Oil Biodiesel as Fuel in Compression Ignition Engine

there is an increasing interest in India, to search for suitable alternative fuels that are environment friendly. thisled to the choice of Mahua Oil (MO) as one of the main alternative fuels to diesel. In this investigation, MahuaOil Biodiesel (MOB) and its blend with diesel were used as fuel in a single cylinder, direct injection and compressionignition engine. the MOB was prepared from MO by transesterification using methanol and potassiumhydroxide. the fuel properties of MOB are close to the diesel and confirm to the AStM standards. From the enginetest analysis, it was observed that the MOB, B5 and B20 blend results in lower CO, HC and smoke emissionsas compared to diesel. But the B5 and B20 blends results in higher efficiency as compared to MOB. HenceMOB or blends of MOB and diesel (B5 or B20) can be used as a substitute for diesel in diesel engines used intransportation as well as in the agriculture sector.
