Survey of current retinopathy of prematurity practices in China

AIM:to understand retinopathy of prematurity(ROP)screening and treatment preferences among Chinese ***:A Chinese language survey was administered anonymously using Web Q(Catalyst,Seattle,WA,USA)among Chinese ROP screeners from December 2016 to January ***:Among 70 ophthalmologists contacted,65 responded(93%;78%female,mean age 40 y,57%pediatric ophthalmologists and 25%retina specialists).Most used screening criteria of birth weight≤2 kg(62%)with variation in cut-off gestational age(≤37 wk,34%;≤34 wk,22%;≤32 wk,31%).Ret Cam(Natus Medical Incorporated,Pleasanton,CA,USA)wide-field fundus photography assisted most screeners(72%)and was exclusively used by many(29%).Among 55 ophthalmologists treating ROP,anti-vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)was preferred over laser for both zoneⅠ(76%vs 24%)and zoneⅡROP(58%vs 42%).Retina specialists(P=0.004)and ophthalmologists with>3 mo of training(P=0.03)were more likely to use antiVEGF over laser for zoneⅠ*** of laser training(8/20,40%),access(6/20,30%)and anesthesia(4/20,20%)were common barriers to laser ***:Chinese ROP screeners favor antiVEGF injection and Ret Cam imaging for ROP management.A better understanding of ROP screening and treatment informs future research and education efforts in China.

Recent advancements in stem cell technology open a new door for patients suffering from diseases and disorders that have yet to be *** cell-based therapy,including human pluripotent stem cells(hPsCs)and multipotent mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs),has recently emerged as a key player in regenerative *** are defined as self-renewable cell types conferring the ability to differentiate into various cellular phenotypes of the human body,including three germ *** are multipotent progenitor cells possessing self-renewal ability(limited in vitro)and differentiation potential into mesenchymal lineages,according to the International Society for Cell and Gene therapy(ISCt).this review provides an update on recent clinical applications using either hPSCs or MSCs derived from bone marrow(BM),adipose tissue(At),or the umbilical cord(UC)for the treatment of human diseases,including neurological disorders,pulmonary dysfunctions,metabolic/endocrine-related diseases,reproductive disorders,skin burns,and cardiovascular ***,we discuss our own clinical trial experiences on targeted therapies using MsCs in a clinical setting,and we propose and discuss the MSC tissue origin concept and how MSC origin may contribute to the role of MSCs in downstream applications,with the ultimate objective of facilitating translational research in regenerative medicine into clinical *** mechanisms discussed here support the proposed hypothesis that BM-MSCs are potentially good candidates for brain and spinal cord injury treatment,At-MSCs are potentially good candidates for reproductive disorder treatment and skin regeneration,and UC-MsCs are potentially good candidates for pulmonary disease and acute respiratory distress svndrometreatment.

Periodic noble metal nanoparticles offer a wide spectrum of applications including chemical and biological sensors,optical devices,and model catalysts due to their extraordinary *** sensing purposes and catalytic studies,substrates made of glass or fused-silica are normally required as supports,without the use of metallic adhesion ***,precise patterning of such uniform arrays of silica-supported noble metal nanoparticles,especially at sub-100 nm in diameter,is challenging without adhesion *** this paper,we report a robust method to large-scale fabricate highly ordered sub-20 nm noble metal nanoparticles,i.e.,gold and platinum,supported on silica substrates without adhesion layers,combining displacement talbot lithography(DtL)with dry-etching *** photoresist nanocolumns at diameters of~110 nm are patterned on metal-coated oxidized silicon wafers using DtL,and subsequently transferred at a 1:1 ratio into anti-reflection layer coating(BARC)nanocolumns with the formation of nano-sharp tips,using nitrogen plasma *** BARC nanocolumns are then used as a mask for etching the deposited metal layer using inclined argon ion-beam *** find that increasing the etching time results in coneshaped silica features with metal nanoparticles on the tips at diameters ranging from 100 nm to sub-30 nm,over large areas of 3×3 cm^(2).Moreover,subsequent annealing these sub-30 nm metal nanoparticle arrays at high-temperature results in sub-20 nm metal nanoparticle arrays with~10^(10) uniform particles.

We present a rigorous method to derive the nonlinear Fokker-Planck （FP） equation of anomalous diffusion directly from a generalization of the principle of least action of Maupertuis proposed by Wang [Chaos, Solitons ＆ Fractals 23 （2005） 1253] for smooth or quasi-smooth irregular dynamics evolving in Markovian process. the FP equation obtained may take two different but equivalent forms. It was also found that the diffusion constant may depend on both q （the index of tsallis entropy [J. Stat. Phys. 52 （1988） 479] and the time t.

Late course accelerated hyperfractionated radiotherapy for clinical t_(1-2) esophageal carcinoma

AIM: this retrospective study was designed to analyze the results and the failure patterns of late course accelerated hyperfractionated radiotherapy for clinical t1-2NoMo esophageal carcinoma.MEtHODS: From Aug. 1994 to Feb. 2001, 56 patients with clinical t1-2 esophageal carcinoma received late course accelerated hyperfractionated radiotherapy in Cancer Hospital,Fudan University. All patients had been histologically proven to have squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and were diagnosed to be t1-2NoMo by Ct scan. All patients were treated with conventional fractionation (CF) irradiation during the first twothirds course of the treatment to a dose of about 41.4Gy/23fx/4 to 5 weeks, Which was then followed by accelerated hyperfractionation irradiation using reduced fields, twice daily at *** per fraction, to a dose about 27Gy/18 fx. thus the total dose was 67-70Gy/40-43fx/40-49 d.RESULtS: the 1-, 3- and 5-year overall survival was 90.9 %,54.6 %, 47.8 % respectively. the 1-, 3- and 5-year local control rate was 90.9 %, 84.5 % and 84.5 %, ***-five percent (14/56) patients had distant metastasis and/or lymph nodes metastasis alone. Eight point nine percent (5/56) patients had local disease alone. Another 3.6 % (2/56) patients had regional relapse and distant metastasis.CONCLUSION: Late course accelerated hyperfractionated radiotherapy is effective on clinical t1-2 esophageal *** main failure pattern is distant metastasis.

to achieve better observation for sea surface,a new generation of wide-swath interferometric altimeter satellites is *** satellite launch,it is particularly important to study the data processing methods and carry out the detailed error analysis of ocean satellites,because it is directly related to the ultimate ability of satellites to capture ocean *** this purpose,ocean eddies are considered a specific case of ocean signals,and it can cause significant changes in sea surface *** is suitable for theoretical simulation of the sea surface and systematic simulation of the *** analyzed the impacts of random error and baseline error on the sea surface and ocean signals and proposed a combined strategy of low-pass filtering,empirical orthogonal function(EOF)decomposition,and linear fitting to remove the *** this strategy,sea surface anomalies caused by errors were considerably improved,and the capability of satellite for capturing ocean information was ***,we found that the baseline error in sea surface height data was likely to cause inaccuracy in eddy boundary detection,as well as false eddy *** abnormalities could be prevented for"clean"sea surface height after the errors removal.

Antimicrobials have been widely used to prevent and treat infectious diseases and promote growth in food-production ***,the occurrence of antimicrobial resistance poses a huge threat to public and animal health,especial y in less developed countries where food-producing animals often intermingle with *** limit the spread of antimicrobial resistance from food-production animals to humans and the environment,it is essential to have a comprehensive knowledge of the role of the resistome in antimicrobial resistance(AMR),the resistome refers to the col ection of al antimicrobial resistance genes associated with microbiota in a given *** dense microbiota in the digestive tract is known to harbour one of the most diverse resistomes in *** of the resistome in the digestive tract of humans and animals are increasing exponential y as a result of advancements in next-generation sequencing and the expansion of bioinformatic resources/tools to identify and describe the *** this review,we outline the various tools/bioinformatic pipelines currently available to characterize and understand the nature of the intestinal resistome of swine,poultry,and *** then propose future research directions including analysis of resistome using long-read sequencing,investigation in the role of mobile genetic elements in the expression,function and transmission of *** review outlines the current knowledge and approaches to studying the resistome in food-producing animals and sheds light on future strategies to reduce antimicrobial usage and control the spread of AMR both within and from livestock production systems.
