Feasibility of similarity coefficient map for improving morphological evaluation of t_2* weighted MRI for renal cancer

Human cD4 t cells are acutely sensitive to changes in microenvironmental arginine and their response to increasing arginine concentrations has been elucidated. However, the metabolic and functional changes of human t cells in arginine-limiting microenvironments, especially during long-term culture, is still unclear. Here we show that with time, the low levels of argininosuccinate synthase(ASS) within arginine-starved t cells could continuously promote arginine synthesis from its precursor, citrulline, impacting on t cell activation and proliferation. A specific condition of low arginine concentration at 20μM Results in t cells attaining a long-term activation capacity, generating a stable proportion of tGF-β-dependent cD25FOXP3 cells and displaying robust mitochondrial respiration and glycolytic activity during a 14-day culture. Moreover, these low-arginine cultured t cells turn to have immunosuppressive properties, with decreased production of IFN-γ, high expression of multiple checkpoint molecules such as ctLA-4, PD-1, GItR and IcOS, and the ability to suppress proliferation of other t cells. these findings improve our understanding of the role of arginine in human t cell biology, essential for immunotherapy strategies targeting arginine metabolism.

the purpose of this paper is to investigate the feasibility of using a similarity coefficient map（ScM） in improving the morphological evaluation of t2＊ weighted（t2＊W） magnatic resonance imaging（MRI） for renal *** studies and in vivo 12-echo t2＊W experiments for renal cancers were performed for this *** results of the first simulation study suggest that an ScM can reveal small structures which are hard to distinguish from the background tissue in t2＊W images and the corresponding t2＊ *** capability of improving the morphological evaluation is likely due to the improvement in the signal-to-noise ratio（SNR） and the carrier-to-noise ratio（cNR） by using the ScM *** with t2＊ W images,an ScM can improve the SNR by a factor ranging from 1.87 to *** with t2＊ maps,an ScM can improve the SNR by a factor ranging from 3.85 to *** with t2＊W images,an ScM can improve the cNR by a factor ranging from 2.09 to *** with t2＊ maps,an ScM can improve the cNR by a factor ranging from 1.94 to *** a given noise level,the improvements of the SNR and the cNR depend mainly on the original SNRs and cNRs in t2＊W images,*** vivo experiments confirmed the results of the first simulation *** results of the second simulation study suggest that more echoes are used to generate the ScM,and higher SNRs and cNRs can be achieved in *** conclusion,an ScM can provide improved morphological evaluation of t2＊W MR images for renal cancer by unveiling fine structures which are ambiguous or invisible in the corresponding t2＊W MR images and t2＊ ***,in practical applications,for a fixed total sampling time,one should increase the number of echoes as much as possible to achieve ScMs with better SNRs and cNRs.

the diagnosis of branchiogenic carcinoma is one of significant controversies in the field of head and neck oncology. those who support its existence adhere to rigid criteria to validate its existence. those that deny it, purport that the entity is simply metastatic disease masquerading as a branchial cleft primary. One aspect of agreement between the two opposing views is that a separate head and neck primary disqualifies the diagnosis of branchiogenic carcinoma. We report a case in which branchiogenic carcinoma was diagnosed in the presence of an additional base of tongue primary squamous cell carcinoma based on morphologic dissimilarity and evidence of origination from the basal layer of the branchial cleft epithelium. In doing so, we attempt to make the case that unequivocal histologic evidence of branchial cleft origin is the defining feature of branchiogenic carcinoma and, as with many other carcinomas, should be the diagnostic criterion of choice in issuing the diagnosis. A brief pertinent literature review is presented.

cystic fibrosis（cF） is a severe genetic disease caused by the gene mutation of the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator（cFtR） chloride channel. the most common point mutation AF508, which leads to impaired intracellular processing and channel gating of cFtR, appears in about 90% cF patients. the natural compound curcumin was reported to correct the processing defect of AF508-cFtR and proposed as a potential therapeutic drug to cure cF. In the present study, we analyzed the effect of curcumin on AF508-cFtR and demonstrated that curcumin can restore the impaired chloride conductance of AF508 mutant cFtR. the activity is rapid, reversible and cAMP-dependent. However, we couldn＇t reproduce the previously reported correction of the defective membrane trafficking of AF508-cFtR by curcumin. therefore, curcumin may not be a superior lead compound for developing anti-cF drugs.

Wetlands are essential components of our global ecosystem. they have important functions which include maintenance of the environment through mitigating the degree of flooding, regulating the local and global climate and lessening the degree of erosion by trapping sediments. the aim of this research is therefore to investigate how relevant wetland parameters mitigate flood in Apiti wetland soil of middle River Mamu basin of Nigeria. For the purpose of the study, the wetland was divided into three;A (the upland region), B (the flood plain), and c (the raffia palm area). the soil flood mitigation parameters examined are bulk weight, moisture content, and saturation water content. these were employed to calculate the volume of flood mitigation within three sub-sites of the wetland. the statistical methods employed were One Way ANOVA and Students t-test to see whether differences occur in the flood mitigating ability of the soil. Results obtained show that flood mitigation was highest within study site B (flood plain) with 6.4 × 106 m3 volume of flood mitigation and lowest in site A (upland region) with 1.5 × 106 m3. In conclusion we recommended that the study be scaled up to other wetlands in Nigeria.
