Osteoclast differentiation depends on receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB(RANK) signaling,which can be divided into triggering,amplifying and targeting phases based on how active the master regulator nuclear factor of activated t-cells cytoplasmic 1(NFAtc1) is. the triggering phase is characterized by immediateearly RANK signaling induced by RANK ligand(RANKL) stimulation mediated by three adaptor proteins,tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factor 6,Grb-2-associated binder-2 and phospholipase C(PLC)γ2,leading to activation of IκB kinase,mitogen-activated protein kinases and the transcription factors nuclear factor(NF)-κB and activator protein-1(AP-1). Mice lacking NF-κB p50/p52 or the AP-1 subunit c-Fos(encoded by Fos) exhibit severe osteopetrosis due to a differentiation block in the osteoclast lineage. the amplification phase occurs about 24 h later in a RANKLinduced osteoclastogenic culture when Ca2+ oscillation starts and the transcription factor NFAtc1 is abundantly produced. In addition to Ca2+ oscillation-dependent nuclear translocation and transcriptional auto-induction of NFAtc1,a Ca2+ oscillation-independent,osteoblastdependent mechanism stabilizes NFAtc1 protein in dif-ferentiating osteoclasts. Osteoclast precursors lacking PLCγ2,inositol-1,4,5-trisphosphate receptors,regulator of G-protein signaling 10,or NFAtc1 show an impaired transition from the triggering to amplifying phases. the final targeting phase is mediated by activation of numerous NFAtc1 target genes responsible for cell-cell fusion and regulation of bone-resorptive function. this review focuses on molecular mechanisms for each of the three phases of RANK signaling during osteoclast differentiation.

Appreciation of soft-tissue thickness(Stt)at surgical sites is an increasingly recognized aspect of arthroplasty procedures as it may potentially impacting postoperative *** research has focused on the predictive value of preoperative Stt measurements for complications following various forms of arthroplasty,particularly infections,across procedures such as total knee,hip,shoulder,and ankle *** studies have indicated that increased Stt is associated with a higher risk of complications,including infection and wound healing *** assessment of Stt before surgery could play a crucial role in identifying patients at a higher risk of complications and may be instru-mental in guiding preoperative planning to optimize outcomes in arthroplasty *** measurement techniques and further research are essential to enhance the reliability and clinical utility of Stt assessment for arthro-plasty surgery.

＜正＞Cs2tCNQ3 crystallizes into a columnar structure consisting of a periodic stack of tCNQ0/tCNQ/tCNCt, resulting in a semiconductor with the lowest optical energy gap of 0.3 eV [1]. the radicals tCNQ are dimerized, so that the uppermost valence band is formed by the π* orbit of spin singlet. Since the on-site repulsion energy U ≈ 1.2 eV of the π* electrons is higher than the optical energy gap, Cs2tCNQ3 may be regarded as a charge-transfer semiconductor of the 1/3-filled Hubbard system. It has been reported that this material undergoes the phase transition to a metallic state at around 3 GPa [2], although the optical energy gap remains unclosed [1]. In the present work, to obtain information about the mechanism of this semiconductor-to-metal transition, we measure the pressure dependence of the infrared molecular vibration. Figure 1 shows the absorption spectra in the C-CN stretching region at several pressures. the features at 1205 and 1211 cm-1 at the ambient pressure arise from neutral and radical molecules, respectively, whereas the one at 1183 cm-1 is the electron-molecular-vibration （e-mv） coupled mode. the former two features show a blue-shift with increasing pressure, while increasing their energy spacing. At around 3.6 GPa they abruptly displace toward each other about half the way of the energy spacing, showing that the π* electrons delocalize significantly from radical to neutral molecules. Evidently this is related to the high electric conductivity at high pressures. It is noteworthy that in the high-pressure phase radical-like and neutral-like molecules still coexist spectroscopically, and thus the π* electrons are not completely delocalized. the frequency, on the other hand, of the e-mv mode remains almost unchanged at low pressures. the e-mv mode disappears above 3.6 GPa, in coincidence with the disappearance of the electronic band S1, which is the counterpart of the e-mv mode [1].

In this paper, delay-dependent robust stabilization and H∞ control for uncertain stochastic takagi-Sugeno （t-S） fuzzy systems with discrete interval and distributed time-varying delays are discussed. the purpose of the robust stochastic stabilization problem is to design a memoryless state feedback controller such that the closed-loop system is mean-square asymptotically stable for all admissible uncertainties. In the robust H∞ control problem, in addition to the mean-square asymptotic stability requirement, a prescribed H∞ performance is required to be achieved. Sufficient conditions for the solvability of these problems are proposed in terms of a set of linear matrix inequalities （LMIs） and solving these LMIs, a desired controller can be obtained. Finally, two numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness and less conservativeness of our results over the existing ones.

Coriaria,the only genus under family Coriariacea,receives a lot interest among botanist due to its controversial taxonomic treatment and unique phytochemistry that could be commercially *** populations of Coriaria japonica *** in Cordillera Central Range(CCR),Philippines had never been studied in *** the need for more information on this controversial genus,the study deemed it necessary to present the distribution and morpho-anatomical description of *** *** in CCR.A total of 123 populations were documented,found at an elevation range of 1334 to 2494 m asl and stretched between16°31’37.7"to 17°5’47.8"N and 120°39’40.3"to120°55’48"*** these populations showed a narrow linear pattern of distribution concentrated at the southern portion of *** plant is a shrub with simple leaves,collateral buds,raceme inflorescence,bisexual flowers with persistent perianth forming an accessory fruit after *** terms of anatomy,much are of the usual dicot characters such as dorsiventral leaf with stomata concentrated in the lower epidermis,eustele with pith in the stem andpresence of secondary growth both on old stem and old *** findings of the study include the123 populations,the larger leaf measurements,longer petals and larger fruits than the original description given by ***,the paracytic type of stomata and presence of pith in the primary roots of *** *** are interesting since these are common monocot characters while the plant is *** findings are additional information that could help clear the controversies on the genus *** importantly,our results could provide essential information for understanding the plant and for developing conservation strategies not just for this plant but also for the other related plants in the CCR biogeographical zone.

Enhancement of HIFU Effect by Simultaneous Short Course Degarelix for Early Stage Prostate Cancer: A Pilot Study

Objective: to obtain complete prostatic cell death in the treatment of early stage prostate cancer by High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) therapy, we use Degarelix (GnRH antagonist) twice simultaneously. Patients and Methods: the first Degarelix subcutaneous injection was made two weeks before HIFU therapy, and second Degarelix was applied two weeks after the HIFU therapy. No additional maintenance Degarelix was used. to confirm the apoptosis induced by Degarelix, specimens obtained by transurethral resection simultaneously on HIFU were stained with caspase 3 and tUNEL. PSA was monitored every three months after this combination therapy as long as two years. these PSA values were compared with those who previously treated with HIFU without Degarelix. Results: Nine t1cN0M0 prostate cancer patients were enrolled to “HIFU + Degarelix” therapy. Pre treatment mean PSA level was 6.11 ± 1.83 ng/ml (SD), and PSA 3 months after the treatment was 0.02 ± 0.02. these low PSA levels continued thereafter (0.16 ng/ml ± 0.19 at 24 months). the mean pretreatment PSA level of the 34 patients underwent HIFU without Degarelix was 11.07 ± 13.9 ng/ml, 3 months post HIFU was 1.68 ± 3.04, (2.80 ± 3.97 at 24 months). Caspase 3 and tUNEL were positive on the glandular cells in tUR specimens of “HIFU + Degarelix” patients, suggesting Degarelix induced apoptosis. Conclusion: Although the number of our patients was small, the results of “Short course Degarelix + HIFU” would be promising for better long-term outcome than HIFU mono-therapy.
