Background:Methodological applications of the high sensitivity genus-specific Schistosoma CAA strip test,allowing detection of single worm active infections(ultimate sensitivity),are discussed for efficient utilization in sample pooling *** relevant cost reduction,pooling of samples rather than individual testing can provide valuable data for large scale mapping,surveillance,and ***:the laboratory-based CAA strip test utilizes luminescent quantitative up-converting phosphor(UCP)reporter particles and a rapid user-friendly lateral flow(LF)assay *** test includes a sample preparation step that permits virtually unlimited sample concentration with urine,reaching ultimate sensitivity(single worm detection)at 100%*** facilitates testing large urine pools from many individuals with minimal loss of sensitivity and *** test determines the average CAA level of the individuals in the pool thus indicating overall worm burden and *** requiring test results at the individual level,smaller pools need to be analysed with the pool-size based on expected prevalence or when unknown,on the average CAA level of a larger group;CAA negative pools do not require individual test results and thus reduce the number of ***:Straightforward pooling strategies indicate that at sub-population level the CAA strip test is an efficient assay for general mapping,identification of hotspots,determination of stratified infection levels,and accurate monitoring of mass drug administrations(MDA).At the individual level,the number of tests can be reduced *** low endemic settings as the pool size can be increased as opposed to prevalence ***:At the sub-population level,average CAA concentrations determined in urine pools can be an appropriate measure indicating worm *** strategies allowing this type of large scale testing are feasible with the various CAA strip test formats and do not affect sens

Objective:the present study evaluates the concurrent and predictive validity of the Seguin Form Board test(SFBt)as an intelligence tool for children in low-and middle-income ***:In a cohort of normal children,followed up in South India,two cross-sectional analyses were done at 3 and 7 years of age on 95 *** SFBt and Vineland Social Matu-rity Scale(VSMS)were done at 3 years of age and Malin’s Intelligence Scale for Indian Children(MISIC)and the VSMS were done at 7 years of age,and the results were compared for concurrent and predictive validity for the ***:Intelligence quotient and social quotient had positive correlations at 3 years of age,indicating fair concurrent *** SFBt done at around 3 years of age had good positive cor-relation with MISIC at 7 years of age,indicating good predictive ***:this study shows the utility of the SFBt as a community-based intelligence tool with acceptable concurrent and predictive validity.

Mechanisms of hepatocellular carcinoma progression

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is the most common primary malignancy of the liver. It is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, with a very poor prognosis. In the United States, there has been only minimal improvement in the prognosis for HCC patients over the past 15 years. Details of the molecular mechanisms and other mechanisms of HCC progression remain unclear. Consequently, there is an urgent need for better understanding of these mechanisms. HCC is often diagnosed at advanced stages, and most patients will therefore need systemic therapy, with sorafenib being the most common at the present time. However, sorafenib therapy only minimally enhances patient survival. this review provides a summary of some of the known mechanisms that either cause HCC or contribute to its progression. Included in this review are the roles of viral hepatitis, non-viral hepatitis, chronic alcohol intake, genetic predisposition and congenital abnormalities, toxic exposures, and autoimmune diseases of the liver. Well-established molecular mechanisms of HCC progression such as epithelial-mesenchymal transition, tumor-stromal interactions and the tumor microenvironment, cancer stem cells, and senescence bypass are also discussed. Additionally, we discuss the roles of circulating tumor cells,immunomodulation, and neural regulation as potential new mechanisms of HCC progression. A better understanding of these mechanisms could have implications for the development of novel and more effective therapeutic and prognostic strategies, which are critically needed.

Antioxidant, Enzyme Inhibitory and Anti-Obesity Potential of Sorrel Calyx Extracts in 3t3-L1 Adipocytes

Hibiscus sabdariffa L. (sorrel) has been widely used in the development of tropical beverages and folk medicine. this study’s objective was to investigate the anti-obesity potential of sorrel calyx extracts (methanol and water) on 3t3-L1 adipocyte cells. Phytochemical content, antioxidant potential as DPPH (1, 1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging activity and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and enzyme (α-glucosidase, α-amylase, and pancreatic lipase) inhibitory activities were determined in sorrel methanol extracts (SME) and sorrel water extracts (SWE). Effect of SWE and SME on lipid accumulation, lipolysis and apoptosis were tested in 3t3-L1 adipocyte differentiation and maintenance stage of cells at selected concentrations (200 - 1000 μg/ml) was studied. the total phenolic (GAE mg/100g dry weight) and total flavonoid (mg catechin equi/ 100g dry weight) contents in SME and SWE were 158.31 and 317.27 and 90.77 and 100.08. DPPH% inhibition (IC-50-mg/ml) and FRAP (mmol Fe [II]/100g dry weight) were 0.82 and 0.33 and 1799.13 and 2296.38 for SWE and SME, respectively. SME and SWE inhibited α-glucosidase, α-amylase, and pancreatic lipase activities by more than 40% at 4mg/ml. Significant (p tion in lipid accumulation and increased glycerol release in 3t3-L1 cells was observed at concentrations ranged from 600 mg/ml of both extracts. treating cells with SME-1000 μg/ml at differentiation resulted inhibition (p tion by 45% compared to untreated cells. Highest (p triglyceride content as well as higher glycerol release was seen in cells exposed to SME at the differentiation stage. Sorrel extracts induced apoptosis in adipocytes at higher concentrations with prominent effect of treating cells at differentiation stage. the results of this study showed effect of sorrel extracts in reduction of lipid accumulation and increase in lipolysis of 3t3-L1 cells.

动态安全域(DSR)的暂态稳定边界可以近似表示为超平面,由此提出了一种DSR的快速求解方法。该方法分别对事故前系统的稳定运行点、事故中系统的故障轨迹和事故后系统的暂态稳定性进行有功功率的小扰动分析,然后依据整个暂态响应过程中状态变量的连续性,将不同阶段的分析结果联系起来,最终推导出了超平面形式的DSR解析表达式。应用暂态能量函数分析给出了注入空间上的实用动态安全判据,以此来量化暂态稳定性指标,从而实现对事故后系统的有功功率小扰动分析。该方法的有效性在New England 10机39节点系统上得到了验证。

Objective:Despite numerous experimental studies in the literature,there are few clinical trials regarding the effect of date palm pollen(DPP)supplementation on sexual function *** the present study,we sought to evaluate the impact of DPP on female sexual function in Iranian non-menopausal ***:Between October 2019 and December 2019,health centers in the city of Khalkhal,volunteers meeting the inclusion criteria were recruited in randomized clinical ***-eight women were randomly stratified and assigned to one of the two study groups:placebo group(n=35)and palm pollen group(n=35),and received a starch or palm pollen capsule(300 mg per day),respectively,for 35 *** Female Sexual Function Index(FSFI)instrument was used to assess female sexual ***:After DPP supplementation,the increase in desire,lubrication,and the overall score,was statistically significant compared to the placebo group(P=0.002,P=0.000,and P=0.042;respectively);Whilst there was no significant differences in the remaining domains(arousal:P=0.763;orgasm:P=0.370;satisfaction:P=0.474;pain:P=0.259).there was a statistically significant positive correlation between the coitus and preintervention levels of desire(r=0.298,P=0.038),arousal(r=0.328,P=0.021),lubrication(r=0.361,P=0.011),orgasm(r=0.320,P=0.025),satisfaction(r=0.327,P=0.022),and overall scores(r=0.338,P=0.018).Conclusion:this study suggests that DPP(300 mg supplementation for 35 d),given to non-menopausal women,could improve the lubrication and desire domains of FSFI.

Healthcare needs and access in a sample of Chinese young adults in Vancouver, British Columbia: A qualitative analysis

Objectives: Immigrants of Chinese ethnicity and young people (between 18 and 30 years of age) are known to access health services less frequently and may be at greater risk for experiencing unmet health needs. the purpose of this study was to examine the health beliefs, health behaviors, primary care access, and perceived unmet healthcare needs of Chinese young ***: Semi-structured in-depth interviews were carried out with eight Chinese young adults in Vancouver, Canada. Results: A content analysis revealed that these Chinese young adults experienced unmet healthcare needs, did not have a primary care provider, and did not access preventive services. Cultural factors such as strong family ties, filial piety, and the practice of traditional Chinese Medicine influenced their health behaviors and healthcare access patterns. Conclusion: Chinese young adults share similar issues with other young adults in relation to not having a primary care provider and accessing preventive care but their health beliefs and practices make their needs for care unique from other young adults.

Green-synthetized selenium nanoparticles using berberine as a promising anticancer agent

Objective: the chemo-preventative and therapeutic properties of selenium nanoparticles(Se NPs) have been documented over recent decades and suggest the potential uses of Se NPs in medicine. Biogenic Se NPs have higher biocompatibility and stability than chemically synthesized nanoparticles, which enhances their medical applications, especially in the field of cancer therapy. this study evaluated the potential of green-synthetized Se NPs by using berberine(Ber) as an antitumor agent and elucidated the mechanism by which these molecules combat Ehrlich solid tumors(ESts).Methods: Se NPs containing Ber(Se NPs-Ber) were synthesized using Ber and Na2 Se O3 and characterized with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Sixty male Swiss albino mice were then acclimatized for one week, injected with Ehrlich ascites tumor cells, and divided into four groups: ESt, ESt + cisplatin(5 mg/kg), ESt + Ber(20 mg/kg), and ESt + Se NPs-Ber(0.5 mg/kg). At the end of a 16-day observation period, 12 mice from each group were euthanized to analyze differences in the body weight, tumor size,gene expression, and oxidative stress markers in the four groups. three mice from each group were kept alive to compare the survival ***: treatment with Se NPs-Ber significantly improved the survival rate and decreased the body weight and tumor size, compared to the ESt group. Se NPs-Ber reduced oxidative stress in tumor tissue,as indicated by a decrease in the lipid peroxidation and nitric oxide levels and an increase in the glutathione levels. Moreover, Se NPs-Ber activated an apoptotic cascade in the tumor cells by downregulating the B-cell lymphoma 2(Bcl-2) expression rate and upregulating the Bcl-2-associated X protein and caspase-3 expression rates.
