A system for the numerical simulation of 3D temperature and stress fields during casting process was studied, developed and practiced based on finite difference method (FDM) in this paper. An approach where the stress/strain and the heat transfer analysis use the same computational domain was presented, which avoided transferring temperature data between FDM and FEM nodes and elements. A slot-board steel casting was simulated and the calculated results are in agreements with those obtained from practical producing.

Objective: It is important to minimize the risk of major vascular injury during pneumoperitoneumestablishment in laparoscopic surgeries for patients with unusual variations in the levels of theabdominal aorta, the inferior vena cava (IVC), and the left renal vein, which will decrease the morbidityand mortality. the study aims to assess the variations regarding the bifurcation level of the abdominalaorta, formation level of the IVC, and insertion level of the left renal vein into the ***: this retrospective study was conducted on 100 patients (50 males and 50 females) referred tothe Department of Radiology, Jordan University Hospital for abdomino-pelvic Ct with intra-venouscontrast from January 2018 to December 2019. the three vessels were determined on the axial plane,the coronal plane, and the midsagittal plane. the central vertebral body height as well as the distance ofthe level of the point of interest to the upper end plate of the vertebrae were measured. Afterwards, theresults were classified into the following categories, upper end plate, lower end plate, intervertebral disc,upper half, and lower half of the ***: the aortic bifurcation was mainly found at the level of the L4 vertebral body (65, 65%). In theremaining cases, the bifurcation was found to be variably located spanning from L3 in 11 (11%) cases to3 (3%) cases at L5. As for the iliocaval junction, the most common site was also at the level of L4 with41 (41%) cases followed by 39 (39%) cases at the level of L5, and 20 (20%) cases at the intervertebral discof L4/L5. the left renal vein most commonly joined the IVC at the level of L1 with 62 (62%) cases followedby 20 (20%) cases at the intervertebral disc t12/L1. there was wide variation in its entry to the IVCspanning from 4 (4%) cases at t12/L1 to 1 (1%) case at ***: the anatomical variation of the major vessels can be found in the normal ***, sufficient investigation of the anatomical position of these

Aims Plants use different types of responses such as tolerance and induced defense to mitigate the effects of *** direc-tion and magnitude of both these plant responses can vary with plant ***,most studies have focused on aboveground herbivory,whereas important feeding occurs ***,we tested the hypothesis that plant tolerance and defense following shoot damage or root herbivory depends on plant *** In order to test our hypothesis,we exposed the perennial grass spe-cies Holcus lanatus to defoliation and root nematode inoculation at three growth stages(young,intermediate and old plants),and exam-ined responses of plant traits related to tolerance(regrowth follow-ing defoliation)and defense(leaf and root nitrogen and phenolics).Important Findings Defoliation overall reduced plant shoot and root biomass as well as foliar concentrations of phenolics regardless of plant age at *** contrast,defoliation increased foliar N concentrations,but only when defoliation occurred at intermediate and old plant *** with root-feeding nematodes reduced root N concentra-tions after a prolonged period of growth,but only when nematodes had been inoculated when plants were *** relative shoot re-growth rate of plants increased immediately after defoliation but this was independent of the plant age at which defoliation occurred,*** not stronger in plants that were defoliated at a more advanced age,as ***,relative root growth rates increased shortly after defoliation,but this was only observed for plants defoli-ated when they were *** conclude that plant responses to aboveground and belowground herbivory in traits related to both defense and tolerance are affected by plant age,but do not gener-ally change with plant age.

the solution of boundary layer along a curved surface was discussed in this article. According to the principle of the theory of similarity, the method of partial similarity was proposed, in which the profile of object is divided into many tiny sections, the method of similarity was used in each section and the error in each section was fully considered. this method is proved to be feasible.

Afteruse development of former landfll sites in Hong Kong

Landfll is one of the major methods in disposing of municipal solid waste(MSW) in Hong Kong. there are now 13 closed landfll sites in Hong Kong, and a restoration program has been launched since 1999 to transform the closed landfll sites back into recreational area. the MSW underneath these closed landfll sites will biodegrade slowly and gradually, releasing toxic gases and leachate. As there have only been a few afteruse development ever completed in Hong Kong, this paper describes the consideration in planning and design of two former landfll sites in Hong Kong–Ngau Chi Wan(NCW) and Jordan Valley(JV) landflls, in particular a discussion on the MSW settlement. Various models in predicting the longterm MSW settlement have been available. this paper reviews the applicability of these models to predict MSW settlement. However, as the predicted settlements can be signifcantly in error, they need sitespecifc calibration and validation. this paper therefore presents the settlement monitoring data in these former landfll sites over the last 30 years, and suggests modifying the Bjarngard and Edgers’ method for estimating this long-term settlement as well as the effect of additional surcharge due to afteruse development. Based on the regression of these data, compression indices Cce and C at different stages of the settlement in the modifed method have been calibrated and validated.

the effect of Ce on the oxidation behaviour of undoped and B-doped Ni3 Al has been studied. Ce can refine Al2O3 grains produced in the course of oxidation of polycrystalline Ni3Al, accelerate the diffusion of oxygen along Al2O3 grain boundaries,and promote the growth of Al2O3 grains. As a result, the quantity of less-protective NiO decreases. the oxidation resistance of 0.011% Ce-doped alloy is the best of all Ce-doped Ni3Al alloys. Because B is benefitial to the formation of Al2O3 and Ce can refine Al2O3 grains, the oxidation resistance of the alloy containing both B and Ce is the best.

Lymphoepithelioma-like hepatocellular carcinoma(LELHCC)is a very rare neoplasm,with distinct epidemiologic,morphologic and clinical *** mechanistic insight into the pathogenesis of this carcinoma suggests a pivotal role for the host immune system in the proliferation and progression of this ***,while detailed genomic profiling of these hepatic tumors have revealed an intra-tumoral inflammatory mutational signature that may predispose to immune checkpoint inhibitor efficacy,no published report has described their use in this tumor ***,with near 100 cases of LEL-HCC reported in the literature to date and the majority of cases confined to localized and resectable disease,current evidencebased practices in the unresectable setting are lacking,with unknown benefit of chemotherapy or *** report on the case of a 68 year-old man with unresectable,advanced LEL-HCC who had evidence of disease stability after starting on the immune checkpoint inhibitor *** disease response persisted off therapy for over a year and was potentially augmented by radiotherapy at the site of local *** this extremely rare tumor subtype,this case highlights the potential efficacy and safety of immune checkpoint blockade in LEL-HCC and reinforces the need for more robust,large-scale analysis of patients with these rare tumors to better evaluate treatment strategies and outcomes.
