Important technological and physics issues related to steady-state operationrequired for next step are being examined on tore Supra, after a major upgrade of internalcomponents in order to increase the heat extraction capability to 25 MW for 1000 s. Here, we showfirst experimental results, where all the plasma facing components were actively cooled duringpulses exceeding four minutes, with reactor-relevant heat load. New physics was observed innon-inductively driven plasmas, including a stationary peaked radial profile of the plasma densitygenerated by an anomalous inward pinch; and a regime characterized by sinusoidal oscillations ofcentral electron temperature, governed by non-linear coupling between heat transport and plasmacurrent analogous to a predator-prey mechanism.

EfFects of heat treatments on hardness and dry wear properties of a semi-solid processed Fe-26.96 wt pct Cr- 2.91 wt pct C cast iron were studied. Heat treatments included tempering at 500℃, destabilisation at 1075℃ and destabilisation at 1075℃ plus tempering at 500℃, all followed by air cooling. Electron microscopy revealed that, in the as-cast condition, the primary proeutectic austenite was round in shape while the eutectic M7C3 carbide was found as radiating clusters mixed with directional clusters. tempering did not change the microstructure significantly when observed by scanning or transmission electron microscopy. Destabilisation followed by air cooling led to a precipitation of secondary M23C6 carbide and a transformation of the primary austenite to martensite. Precipitation behaviour is comparable to that observed in the conventionally cast iron. tempering after destabilisation resulted in a higher amount of secondary carbide precipitation within the tempered martensite in the eutectic structure. Vickers macrohardness and microhardness in the proeutectic zones were measured. Dry wear properties were tested by using a pin-on-disc method. the maximum hardness and the lowest dry wear rate were obtained from the destabilisation-plus-tempering heat treatment due to the precipitation of secondary carbides within the martensite matrix and a possible reduction in the retained austenite.

In this paper, the direct photooxidation mechanism of near-infrared absorbing benzothiazolone cyanine dye has been studied by VIS absorption spectroscopy and Electron Spin Resonance (ESR). the technique of spin trapping has been successfully applied to the detection of the photoinduced formation of singlet oxygen (O-1(2)) and superoxide (O-2(-)). It was reveled that the singlet oxygen and superoxide anion all contributed to the photofading of cyanine dye.

High-entropy alloys(HEAs)with face-centered cubic(FCC)phase such as CoCrFeMnNi or CoCrNi generally exhibit ultra-high fracture toughness but relatively low *** contrast,body-centered cubic(BCC)HEAs often display higher strengths,but the few reports on fracture toughness measurement demonstrate low toughness *** we show that the BCC HfNbtatiZr refractory HEA,which possesses a combination of high strength,good tensile ductility and excellent high-temperature properties,also exhibits a remarkably high fracture *** using the"single specimen"compliance method for j-integral measurement according to the AStM E1820–17 standard,its fracture toughness K_(jIC)was experimentally determined to be 210 MPa m^(1/2),which renders this HEA among the toughest metallic *** excellent damage tolerance makes the HEA promising for applications as high-temperature structural materials such as in aerospace field.

Surface ozone(O\-3) was measured at Oki Island(japan), Cheju Island(South Korea), Lanyu Island(taiwan Province, China), Cape D'Aguilar(Hong Kong SAR) and Lin'an, Longfenshan, Waliguan(China mainland) during january 1994—December 1996 as a component of IGAC/APARE(International Global Atmospheric Chemistry/East Asia-North Pacific Regional Experiment). this paper gave a joint discussion on the observational results at these stations over the study region. Investigations showed that the average of surface O 3 mixing ratios at the seven sites are 47.9±15.8, 48.1±17.9, 30.2±16.4, 31.6±17.5, 36.3±17.5, 34.8±11.5 and 48.2±9.5 ppbv, respectively. Significant diurnal variations of surface O 3 have been observed at Oki, Cheju, D’Aguilar, Lin'an and Longfenshan. their annual averaged diurnal differences range from 8 to 23 ppbv and differ in each season. Surface O 3 at Lanyu and Waliguan do not show strong diurnal variability. Seasonal cycles of surface O 3 showed difference at the temperate and the subtropical remote sites. Oki has a summer minimum-spring maximum, while Lanyu has a summer minimum-autumn maximum. the suburban sites at D'Aguilar and Lin'an report high-level O 3 in autumn and low level O 3 in summer. Surface O 3 remains high in autumn and low in winter at the rural site Longfenshan. For the global background station Waliguan, surface O 3 exhibits a broad spring-summer maximum and autumn-winter minimum. the backward air trajectories to these sites have shown different pathways of long-range transport of air pollution from East Asia Continent to North Pacific Ocean. Surface O 3 was found to be strongly and positively correlated with CO at Oki and Lanyu, especially in spring and autumn, reflecting the substantial photochemical buildup of O\-3 on a regional scale. It is believed that the regional sources of pollution in East Asia have enhanced the average surface O 3 concentrations in the background atmosphere of North Pacific.

Characterisation of structure across the nanometre scale is key to bridging the gap between the local atomic environment and macro-scale and can be achieved by means of scanning electron nanobeam diffraction(SEND).As a technique,SEND allows for a broad range of samples,due to being relatively tolerant of specimen thickness with low electron ***,coupled with the capacity for automation of data collection over wide areas,allows for statistically representative probing of the *** paper outlines a versatile,data-driven approach for producing domain maps,and a statistical approach for assessing their *** workflow utilises a Variational AutoEncoder to identify the sources of variance in the diffraction signal,and this,in combination with clustering techniques,is used to produce domain *** approach is agnostic to domain crystallinity,requires no prior knowledge of crystal structure,and does not require simulation of a library of expected diffraction patterns.

thermal parameters of tIBr were determined using both X-ray and neutron diffraction techniques. the data was analysed by Rietveld profile refinement procedure. From the neutron diffraction data, due to weak odd-order reflections, it was not possible to determine the individual thermal parameters. theX-ray diffraction measurements yielded Bt1=0.296(5) nm2 and BBr=0.162(5) nm2. the overall isotropic value, B was 0.252(7) nm2 which is in good agreement with B=0.230(8) nm2 obtained from present neutron diffraction measurements. the present values are also in good agreement with theoretical estimates obtained from the shell models.

Soil swelling-related disaster is considered as one of the most devastating geo-hazards in modern ***,proper determination of a soil’s ability to expand is very vital for achieving a secure and safe ground for ***,this study has provided a novel and intelligent approach that enables an improved estimation of swelling by using kernelised machines(Bayesian linear regression(BLR)&bayes point machine(BPM)support vector machine(SVM)and deep-support vector machine(D-SVM));(multiple linear regressor(REG),logistic regressor(LR)and artificial neural network(ANN)),tree-based algorithms such as decision forest(RDF)&boosted trees(BDt).Also,and for the first time,meta-heuristic classifiers incorporating the techniques of voting(VE)and stacking(SE)were *** independent scenarios of explanatory features’combination that influence soil behaviour in swelling were *** results indicated BLR as possessing the highest amount of deviation from the predictor variable(the actual swell-strain).REG and BLR performed slightly better than ANN while the meta-heuristic learners(VE and SE)produced the best overall performance(greatest R2 value of 0.94 and RMSE of 0.06%exhibited by VE).CEC,plasticity index and moisture content were the features considered to have the highest level of *** binary classifiers(SVM,D-SVM and BPM)gave better accuracy(average accuracy and recall rate of 0.93 and 0.60)compared to ANN,LR and ***-driven diagnostic test indicated that the meta-heuristic models’best performance occurred when ML training was conducted using k-fold validation ***,it is recommended that the concepts developed herein be deployed during the preliminary phases of a geotechnical or geological site characterisation by using the best performing meta-heuristic models via their background coding resource.
