transition Operator Approach to Seismic Full-Waveform Inversion in Arbitrary Anisotropic Elastic Media

We generalize the existing distorted Born iterative t-matrix(DBIt)method to seismic full-waveform inversion(FWI)based on the scalar wave equation,so that it can be used for seismic FWI in arbitrary anisotropic elastic media with variable mass densities and elastic stiffness *** elastodynamic wave equation for an ar-bitrary anisotropic heterogeneous medium is represented by an integral equation of the Lippmann-Schwinger type,with a 9-dimensional wave state(displacement-strain)*** solve this higher-dimensional Lippmann-Schwinger equation using a transition operator formalism used in quantum scattering *** allows for domain decomposition and novel variational *** tensorial nonlinear inverse scat-tering problem is solved iteratively by using an expression for the Fŕechet derivatives of the scattered wavefield with respect to elastic stiffness tensor fields in terms of modified Green’s functions and wave state vectors that are updated after each *** the generalized DBIt method is consistent with the Gauss-Newton method,it incorporates approximate Hessian information that is essential for the reduction of multi-parameter cross-talk *** DBIt method is implemented efficiently using a variant of the Levenberg-Marquard method,with adaptive selection of the regularization parameter after each *** a series of numerical experiments based on synthetic waveform data for transversely isotropic media with vertical symmetry axes,we obtained a very good match between the true and inverted models when using the traditional Voigt *** suggests that the effects of cross-talk can be sufficiently reduced by the incorporation of Hessian information and the use of suitable regularization *** the generalized DBIt method for FWI in anisotropic elastic media is naturally target-oriented,it may be particularly suitable for applications to seismic reservoir characterization and ***,the theory a

High arsenic(As)and chromium(Cr)concentrations are currently receiving attention because of their negative effects on the environment and human *** inhabiting contaminated environments have developed resistance mechanisms against the toxicity of these ***,members of the bacterial genus Micrococcus have been isolated from different toxic metal-contaminated environments;however,knowledge concerning its resistance mechanisms to As and Cr toxicity remains *** luteus strains(An24,Mh,NE2tL6,and NE2ttS4)were isolated from the endosphere and soil of two heavy metal-contaminated sites in Mexico to identify differences in the resistance mechanisms by the *** *** strains were resistant to As(As^(3+)and As^(5+)),chromate,dichromate,cobalt,copper,nickel,and *** analysis indicated that the heavy metal-resistant strains(An24,Mh,NE2tL6,and NE2ttS4)could be assigned to the *** group and had more heavy metal-resistant genes(transporters,chaperones,and enzymes)compared to reference strains of the *** group,*** NCtC 2665^(t)and Micrococcus endophyticus JCM 16951^(t).the resistant bacteria were able to biotransform As^(3+)and As^(5+)through a carbon source-dependent *** biotransformation of As5+was potentially carried out in the cytoplasm through a thioredoxin-dependent pathway,which may be coupled with biosorption.A qualitative analysis of organic acids(OAs)identified a change in the OA profile of the metal-resistant strains that was As-or *** genomic and phenotypic findings suggest that the four *** group strains evaluated in the current study have developed resistance mechanisms that may enable their survival in contaminated sites.

We report the gate-modulated Raman spectrum of defective graphene. We show that the intensity of the D peak can be reversibly tuned by applying a gate voltage. this effect is attributed to chemical functionalization of the graphene crystal lattice, generated by an electrochemical reaction involving the water layer trapped at the interface between silicon and graphene.

Bandwidth limits of luminescent solar concentrators as detectors in free-space optical communication systems

Luminescent solar concentrators(LSCs)have recently emerged as a promising receiver technology in free-space optical communications due to their inherent ability to collect light from a wide field-of-view and concentrate it into small areas,thus leading to high optical *** high-speed communication systems integrating LSCs in their detector blocks have already been demonstrated,with the majority of efforts so far being devoted to maximising the received optical power and the system's ***,LSCs may pose a severe bottleneck on the bandwidth of such communication channels due to the comparably slow timescale of the fluorescence events involved,a situation further aggravated by the inherent reabsorption in these systems,and yet,an in-depth study into such dynamic effects remains absent in the *** fill this gap,we have developed a comprehensive analytical solution that delineates the fundamental bandwidth limits of LSCs as optical detectors in arbitrary free-space optical links,and establishes their equivalence with simple RC low-pass electrical ***,we demonstrate a time-domain Monte Carlo simulation platform,an indispensable tool in the multiparameter optimisation of LSC-based receiver *** work offers vital insight into LSC system dynamic behaviour and paves the way to evaluate the technology for a wide range of applications,including visible light communications,high-speed video recording,and real-time biological imaging,to name a few.

Apoptosis also leads to the deletion of expanded effector t cells during immune responses. the dysregulation of apoptosis in the immune system results in autoimmunity, tumorogenesis and immunodeficiency. two major pathways lead to apoptosis: the intrinsic cell death pathway controlled by Bcl-2 family members and the extrinsic cell death pathway controlled by death receptor signaling. these two pathways work to- gether to regulate t lymphocyte development and function.

Genetic link between saline and carbonatitic mantle fluids:the system NaCl-CaCO_(3)-MgCO_(3)±H_(2)O±Fe^(0) at 6 GPa

Melt inclusions in kimberlitic minerals and diamonds indicate that chlorides are important constituents of mantle carbonatite ***,alkaline chlorides are important constituents of saline high-density fluids(HDFs)found in diamonds from kimberlites and placers around the *** compositional variations suggest that saline and carbonatitic HDFs could be genetically ***,the essence of this link remains unclear owing to the lack of data on phase relations in the chloridecarbonate systems under *** we studied subsolidus and melting phase relations in the system NaCl–CaCO_(3)–MgCO_(3)at 6 GPa and 1000–1600℃using a Kawai-type multianvil *** found that at 1000℃,subsolidus assemblage consists of halite,magnesite,and *** higher temperatures,the stabilization of dolomite splits the subsolidus area into two partial ternary fields:halite+magnesite+dolomite and halite+dolomite+*** minimum on the liquidus surface corresponds to the halite-dolomite-aragonite ternary eutectic,situated at 1100℃.the eutectic melt has Ca#89 and contains 30 wt.%Na Cl(26 mol%2NaCl).the system has two ternary peritectics:halite+dolomite=magnesite+liquid located near the ternary eutectic and magnesite+dolomite=Mg-dolomite+liquid situated between 1300 and 1400℃.Although under dry conditions incipient melting yields carbonatedominated melt,the addition of water facilitates the fusion of Na Cl and expands the liquid field to Na Cl-rich compositions with up to 70 wt.%Na *** obtained results favor the idea that hydrous saline melts/fluids(brines)found as inclusions in diamonds could be a lower temperature derivative of mantle carbonatite melts and disagree with the hypothesis on chloride melt generation owing to the chloridecarbonate liquid immiscibility since no such immiscibility was *** also studied the interaction of the NaCl–CaCO_(3)–MgCO_(3)system with iron metal and found that carbonate reduction produces Cbearing species(Fe^(0)

Climate warming has substantially advanced the timing of spring leaf-out of woody species at middle and high latitudes,albeit with large *** in the spatial variation of this climate warming response may therefore help to constrain future trends in leaf-out and its impact on energy,water and carbon balances at global *** this study,we used in situ phenology observations of 38 species from 2067 study sites,distributed across the northern hemisphere in China,Europe and the United States,to investigate the latitudinal patterns of spring leaf-out and its sensitivity(S t,advance of leaf-out dates per degree of warming)and correlation(R_(t),partial correlation coefficient)to temperature during the period *** all species and sites,we found that S_(t) decreased significantly by 0.15±0.02 d℃^(-1)°N^(-1),and R_(t) increased by 0.02±0.001°N^(-1)(both at Pthe latitudinal patterns in R_(t) and S_(t) were explained by the differences in requirements of chilling and thermal forcing that evolved to maximize tree fitness under local climate,particularly climate predictability and summed precipitation during the pre-leaf-out *** results thus showed complicated spatial differences in leaf-out responses to ongoing climate warming and indicated that spatial differences in the interactions among environmental cues need to be embedded into large-scale phenology models to improve the simulation accuracy.

We review recent developments in the use of magnetic lattices as a complementary tool to optical lattices for trapping periodic arrays of ultracold atoms and degenerate quantum gases. Recent advances include the realisation of Bose–Einstein condensation in multiple sites of a magnetic lattice of one-dimensional microtraps, the trapping of ultracold atoms in square and triangular magnetic lattices,and the fabrication of magnetic lattice structures with submicron period suitable for quantum tunnelling ***, we describe a proposal to utilise long-range interacting Rydberg atoms in a large spacing magnetic lattice to create interactions between atoms on neighbouring sites.

Geochemistry of thermal Waters of Continental Margin of Far East of Russia

Studied waters belong to warm （t=30-50℃）, alkaline （pH=8.9-9.3）, low mineralized （tDS〈235 mg/l） Na-HCO3 or Na-SO4-HCO3 thermal waters with high content of SiO2 （up to 81 mg/1） and F （up to 3.9 mg/l）, occur on modern volcano-tectonic rejuvenated areas of Eastern Sikhote-Alin orogenic belt. Low 3He concentration as well as N2/O2 and N2/Ar ratios exclude influence of deep mantle fluid. New rare earth element data constrain our understanding of water-rock interaction occurring in the water source region. Meteoric origin of waters is proved by stable isotope values varying from -71%o to -136.1‰ and from -10.8‰ to -18.8%o for δ^2H and δ^18O respectively. REE patterns reflect high pH, resultfing from water-rock interaction and oxidative conditions. Calculations of deep aquifer temperature using Na-K and quartz geothermometers show 116.8-131.1℃ and 82.2-125.8℃ respectively. Presence of deep faults both with abnormal thermal gradient （-45- 50 K/km） define unique geochemical shape of thermal waters of Sikhote-Alin, area, where no present volcanic activity is registered.
