the impact of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), child-turcotte-pugh (CtP) score and disease staging on the survival of hepatocellular carcinoma (hCC) patients: a retrospective cohort from single oncology center

Background:hepatocellular carcinoma (hCC) is the most common cause of cancer-related death in Saudi Arabia. Our study aimed to investigate the patterns of hCC and the effect of tNM staging, Alfa-fetoprotein (AFP), and Child-turcotte Pugh (CtP) on patients' overall survival (OS).Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted on 43 hCC patients at a single oncology center in Saudi Arabia from 2015 to 2020. All patients had to fulfill one of the following criteria: (a) a liver lesion reported as definitive hCC on dynamic imaging and/or (b) a biopsy-confirmed diagnosis.Results:the mean patient age of all hCC cases was 66.8 with a male-to-female ratio of 3.3:1. All patients were stratified into two groups: viral hCC (n = 22, 51%) and non-viral hCC (n = 21, 49%). Among viral-hCC patients, 55% were due to hBV and 45% due to hCV. Cirrhosis was diagnosed in 79% of cases. Age and sex did not significantly statistically differ in OS among viral and non-viral hCC patients (-value > 0.05). About 65% of patients had tumor size >5 cm during the diagnosis, with a significant statistical difference in OS (-value = 0.027). AFP was >400 ng/ml in 45% of the patients. there was a statistically significant difference in the OS in terms of AFP levels (-value = 0.021). A statistically significant difference was also observed between the CtP score and OS (-value = 0.02). CtP class B had the longest survival. BSC was the most common treatment provided to hCC patients followed by sorafenib therapy. there was a significant statistical difference in OS among viral and non-viral hCC patients (-value = 0.008).Conclusions:the most common predictors for OS were the underlying cause of hCC, AFP, and tumor size. Being having non-viral etiology, a tumor size >5 cm, an AFP > 400 ng/mL, and a CtP score class C were all negatively associated with OS.

Gravitational search algorithm for coordinated design of PSS and tCSC as damping controller

A newly developed heuristic global optimization algorithm, called gravitational search algorithm （GSA）, was introduced and applied for simultaneously coordinated designing of power system stabilizer （PSS） and thyristor controlled series capacitor （tCSC） as a damping controller in the multi-machine power system. the coordinated design problem of PSS and tCSC controllers over a wide range of loading conditions is formulated as a multi-objective optimization problem which is the aggregation of two objectives related to damping ratio and damping factor. By minimizing the objective function with oscillation, the characteristics between areas are contained and hence the interactions among the PSS and tCSC controller under transient conditions are modified. For evaluation of effectiveness and robustness of proposed controllers, the performance was tested on a weakly connected power system subjected to different disturbances, loading conditions and system parameter variations. the cigenvalues analysis and nonlinear simulation results demonstrate the high performance of proposed controllers which is able to provide efficient damping of low frequency oscillations.

Free vibration and transient response of double curved beams connected by intermediate straight beams

this paper investigates the free vibration and transient response of interconnected structures including double curved beams and intermediate straight beams,which are all constructed from functionally graded porous(FGP) materials. the strain potential and kinetic energies of each beam along with the work done by the external force are calculated. Additionally, a higher-order beam element is introduced to derive stiffness and mass matrices, along with the force vector. the curved and straight beams are discretized, and their assembled stiffness, mass matrices, and force vectors, are *** conditions at the joints are used to derive the total matrices of the entire structure. Subsequently, the natural frequencies and transient response of the system are determined. the accuracy of the mathematical model and the self-developed computer program is validated through the comparison of the obtained results with those of the existing literature and commercial software ANSYS, demonstrating excellent ***, a comprehensive study is conducted to investigate the effects of various parameters on the free vibration and transient response of the considered structure.

Characterization of aerodynamic performance of wind-lens turbine using high-fidelity CFD simulations

Wind-lens turbines(WLts)exhibit the prospect of a higher output power and more suitability for urban areas in comparison to bare wind *** wind-lens typically comprises a diffuser shroud coupled with a flange appended to the exit periphery of the ***-lenses can boost the velocity of the incoming wind through the turbine rotor owing to the creation of a lowpressure zone downstream the flanged *** this paper,the aerodynamic performance of the wind-lens is computationally assessed using high-fidelity transient CFD simulations for shrouds with different profiles,aiming to assess the effect of change of some design parameters such as length,area ratio and flange height of the diffuser shroud on the power *** power coefficient(Cp)is calculated by solving the URANS equations with the aid of the SSt k–ω***,comparisons with experimental data for validation are accomplished to prove that the proposed methodology could be able to precisely predict the aerodynamic behavior of the windlens *** results affirm that wind-lens with cycloidal profile yield an augmentation of about 58%increase in power coefficient compared to bare wind turbine of the same rotor *** is also emphasized that diffusers(cycloid type)of small length could achieve a twice increase in power coefficient while maintaining large flange heights.

Efficient Computation Offloading of Iot-Based Workflows Using Discrete teaching Learning-Based Optimization

As the Internet of things(Iot)and mobile devices have rapidly proliferated,their computationally intensive applications have developed into complex,concurrent Iot-based workflows involving multiple interdependent *** exploiting its low latency and high bandwidth,mobile edge computing(MEC)has emerged to achieve the high-performance computation offloading of these applications to satisfy the quality-of-service requirements of workflows and *** this study,we propose an offloading strategy for Iot-based workflows in a high-performance MEC *** proposed task-based offloading strategy consists of an optimization problem that includes task dependency,communication costs,workflow constraints,device energy consumption,and the heterogeneous characteristics of the edge *** addition,the optimal placement of workflow tasks is optimized using a discrete teaching learning-based optimization(DtLBO)*** experimental evaluations demonstrate that the proposed offloading strategy is effective at minimizing the energy consumption of mobile devices and reducing the execution times of workflows compared to offloading strategies using different metaheuristics,including particle swarm optimization and ant colony optimization.

Synthesis and characterization of CNt/Ce-tiO_2 nanocomposite for phenol degradation

An innovative photocatalyst, Carbon nanotube （CNt） supported Ce-tiO2 nanocomposite was successfully synthesized via modi-fied sol gel method and investigated in a batch reactor for abolition of phenol under UV light spectrum. Characterization of catalyst micro-structure and internal properties were done by means of X-ray diffraction （XRD）, Brunauer-Emmett-teller （BEt）, scanning electron micros-copy （SEM）, transmission electron microscopy （tEM） and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra （DRS）. Ce doping can inhibit phase transfor-mation from anatase to rutile and eliminate the recombination of electron-hole pairs in the catalyst. the presence of CNt in tiO2 composite can both increase the photoactivity under UV and change surface properties to achieve sensitivity to visible light. the optimum mass ratio of CNt support and cerium （Ce） dopant in tiO2 was the prominent factor to harvest CNt/Ce-tiO2 photocatalyst nanocomposite. the results demonstrated that optimum mass ratio of CNt：tiO2：Ce was 0.02：1.0：0.06, which resulted in the great performance of the photocatalyst to de-grade about 94% of phenol in a 50 mg/L solution in only 3 h. In this paper, dissimilar role of CNt support and Ce dopant in the tiO2 photo-catalysis of phenol was also discussed.

the paper presents the investigation of the effect of alkaline treatment of sodium hydroxide(NaOh) on physical and dynamic mechanical analysis(DMA) viscoelastic properties of kenaf fibre filled natural rubber(NR)/thermoplastic polyurethane(tPU) *** treated kenaf fiber,NR and tPU were weighed and proportioned according to the required compositions and were blended using hot mixed Brabender *** polymer composites were then fabricated using the hot press to form a sample *** sample was cut and prepared and water absorption,density,thickness swelling and DMA tests were *** far as physical properties are concerned,composites with the highest NR amount of shows the best results,which indicates good fiber bonding *** polymer composites with the highest amount of tPU shows the highest damping properties at high temperature.

Among the semiconductors, titanium dioxide has been identified as an effective photocatalyst due to its abundance, low cost, stability, and superior electronic energy band structure. highly ordered nanotube arrays of titania were produced by anodization and mild sonication. the band gap energy of the titania nanotube arrays was reduced to 2.6 eV by co-doping with Fe, C, N atoms using an electrolyte solution containing K3Fe（CN）6. the photo- conversion of phenol in a batch photoreactor increased to more than 18% based on the initial concentration of phenol by using a composite nanomaterial consisting of titania nanotube arrays and Pt/ZIF-8 nanoparticles. A layer-by- layer assembly technique for the deposition of titania nanoparticles was developed to fabricate air filters for the degradation of trace amounts of toluene in the air and preparation of superhyrophobic surfaces for oil-water separation and anti-corrosion surfaces.

Antimicrobial properties of dental cements modified with zein-coated magnesium oxide nanoparticles

the aim of this study was to test the antimicrobial properties of dental cements modified with magnesium oxide(MgO)***-modified MgO nanoparticles(zMgO)in concentrations(0.0,0.3,0.5,and 1.0%)were mixed with dental cements(Fuji II,Rely X temp E,Ionoglass Cem,Es temp NE,and System P link).Eight discs were fabricated from each zMgO-cement pair for a total of 32 specimens for each *** of the dental cements incorporating zMgO was done by X-ray Diffraction(XRD)and Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy(FESEM).the antimicrobial properties of the mixtures were tested using direct contact and agar diffusion assays against Streptococcus mutans,Staphylococcus aureus,Enterococcus faecalis,and Candida *** was analyzed using two-way analysis of variance and LSD post hoc test at 0.05 significance *** spectra showed sharp peaks of zMgO indicating its high crystalline nature,while the amorphous dental cements with zMgO had broad *** analysis showed a uniform distribution of the zMgO nanoparticles in the *** were significant inhibition zone values associated with all concentrations of zMgO-cement mixtures tested compared to controls(pth a dose-response recorded only with Fuji *** density values were significantly lower in zMgO groups compared to controls for all *** effect was most prominent with Rely X against *** and *** cements containing zMgO showed significant antimicrobial properties that were dependent on the specific initial cement substrate.
