Comparative Effect of Propolis of Honey Bee and Some Herbal Extracts on Candida Albicans

Objective： to determine the effect of propolis on Candida albicans and to compare it with the effects of some other herbal extracts and antibiotics on this pathogenic fungi. Methods： the extracts of propolis, thymus vulgaris, Caryophillium aromaticus, Echinophora platyloba, Allium cepa and Cinnamomum zeylanicumwere prepared and the antifungi effects of the extracts were examined on Candida albicans AtCC10231 using disc-diffusion assay and micro-broth dilution. the minimum fungicidal concentration（MFC） and minimum inhibitory concentrations（MIC） as well as inhibition zone were evaluated and the anti fungi effects of herbal extracts were compared with amphotricin B and nystatin at the times of 24, 48 and 72 h. Data analysis was performed using t test. Results： Obtained results showed that propolis extract with MIC90 and MFC equal to 39 and 65 μg/mL, respectively, possess the highest antifungal activity when compared with other studied extracts. the extracts of Allium cepa and thymus vulgaris, with MFC of 169 and 137 μg/mL, respectively, showed the lowest effects on the fungi. Also nystatin and amphotricin B yielded better effects on the tested fungi compared with the effects of all studied extracts on Candida albicans. Conclusions： Propolis extract is effective in controlling Candida albicans. However, the issue requires further investigation on samples in animals and performing toxicological examinations.

the aim of this study was the spatial and temporal monitoring of soil erosion patterns in *** G2 model was used,as an appropriate tool to provide the required month-time step country-wide soil loss maps and statistical *** input parameters were derived with field surveys and remote sensing imagery(MODIS,SRtM,SPOt,and Sentinel-2 scenes).An innovation for G2 was the consideration of the snow cover effect on the rainfall *** was also the first time G2 was used to map such a big country like Iran on a country *** mean annual soil erosion in Iran was found to be 16.5 t ha−1,which is equal to about 2.7 billion tons of soil *** spatial terms,the highest soil loss values were found in the north,west and southwest part of Iran,in the steep slopes in Alborz and Zagros *** temporal terms,the highest and lowest monthly erosion values of 3.2 and 0.09 t ha−1 correspond to January and July,respectively.

BACKGROUND Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)is a global pandemic putting the population at a high risk of infection-related health hazards,mortality and a potential failure of proper medical ***,it is necessary to evaluate the potential use of the existing drugs that could be used as options for the medical management of COVID-19 *** to evaluate the role of the H_(2) receptor blocker“famotidine”in COVID-19 *** this study was done on seriously ill COVID-19 patients admitted to the intensive care unit(ICU)from different institutes in *** were divided into famotidine treatment group“A”(famotidine 40 mg to 60 mg oral formulation every 8 h with other treatment as given),and control group“B”(treatment as given).National early warning score(NEWS)-2,and sequential organ failure assessment day-1 score was calculated to evaluate the *** were evaluated by the time required for clinical improvement,characterized as duration required from enrollment to the achievement of NEWS-2 of≤2 maintained for 24 h;time to symptomatic recovery,defined as the duration in days(from randomization)required for the recovery of the COVID-19 symptoms;mortality rate;duration of ICU and hospital stay;total period of hospitalization;the rate of supplementary oxygen requirement;the computed tomography(Ct)chest recovery(%),the time required for the viral clearance and“NEWS-2”on *** A total of 208 patients were enrolled in this study with 104 patients in each *** famotidine treatment group had comparatively better recovery of 75%and a low mortality of 25%than the control with a recovery of 70%and a mortality of 30%.Duration of clinical improvement(group A 9.53 d,group B 14.21 d);hospitalization period among the recovered patients(group A 13.04 d,group B 16.31 d),pulmonary improvement in chest Ct(group A 21.7%,group B 13.2%),and the time for viral clearance(group A 20.7 d,group B 23.8 d)were found to be statistically si

Objective:to report the outcomes and complications of open dismembered Anderson-Hynes pyeloplasty with miniature incision in treating children’s ureteropelvic junction ***:Between March 2007 and April 2011,109 children with a mean age of 2 years and 8 months old with ureteropelvic junction obstruction underwent open dismembered *** manifestations,radiographic assessments,incision size,surgery time,hospital stay,and complication rate were *** patients had a documented ureteropelvic junction obstruction(having t1/2 more than 20 min in diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid[DtPA]scan)with symptomatic stenosis or decreased kidney function(differential functionty was done by a retroperitoneal flank approach with miniature incision without pelvis *** surgeon did all the *** rate and complications were assessed in a 3-year ***:Mean surgery time was 52 min(47e60 min).Incision size was 18e28 *** hospital stay was 3 days(2e8 days).the surgery was successful in 98.2%of patients with a mean follow-up time of 36 months(success was defined as disappearance of symptoms,if present,with improved ultrasound imaging results or Reno graphic parameters).the complication rate was 7.33%,including urinary leakage,double-J urethral stent dislocation and ***:Open dismembered pyeloplasty is a safe,technically feasible and effective therapy in treatment of children’s ureteropelvic junction *** takes a short time to do,requires a small incision and has few complications and a short recovery period.

BACKGROUND: Prognostic value of cortisol and thyroid function tests(tFts) has previously been evaluated in medical ICUs. We aimed to evaluate prognostic efficacy of cortisol and tFts in critically ill poisoned patients admitted to toxicology intensive care unit(ICU).MEtHODS: In a prospective study of consecutively enrolled subjects admitted to the toxicology ICU, lab analyses included tFts(total t3 and t4 as well as tSH) and cortisol levels drawn between 8 am–10 am during period of the first 24 hours post-ingestion/exposure. Simplified Acute Physiology Score Ⅱ(SAPS Ⅱ) and Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation Ⅱ(APACHE Ⅱ) were recorded. All scores were compared to detect the best prognostic factor. type of poisoning was also ***: In 200 patients evaluated, 129 were male and mean age was 31 years. In general, SAPS Ⅱ, t4, and cortisol could prognosticate death. After regression analysis, only cortisol had such efficacy(P=0.04; OR=1.06; 95%CI=1.05–1.08; cut-off=42 μg/d L; sensitivity=70%; specificity=82%). Between aluminium phosphide(ALP)-and non ALP-poisoned patients, level of consciousness, mean arterial pressure, and cortisol level could prognosticate death in ALP poisoning(all Psth uni and multivariate analyses). Median(interquartile range; IQR) GCS was 7(6, 10) and 15(8, 15) in non-ALP and ALP-poisoned patients(Pt prognosticate death at ***: Cortisol best prognosticated outcomes for subjects admitted to the toxicology ICU. Its level is higher in ALP-poisoned patients probably due to the higher stress while they remain conscious till the final stages of toxicity and are aware of deterioration of their clinical condition or may be due to their significantly lower blood pressures.

Dynamic Increase Factor (DIF) due to strain rate effect was examined with documented experimental work done by Razaqpur, et al. In the experiment work, two 1000 × 1000 × 70 mm reinforced concrete slabs were constructed. the slabs were subjected to blast loads generated by the detonation of either 22.4 kg or 33.4 kg of ANFO located at a 3.0 m standoff. Blast wave characteristics, including incident and reflected pressures and reflected impulses were measured. the slabs were modeled by explicit analysis with or without strain rate effect to study their behavior under blast load to compare their predicted and observed behavior. the predicted post-blast damage and mode of failure for each model is compared with the observed damage of experimental work. It was concluded that when the dynamic increase factor added to concrete and reinforcement materials due to strain rate effect, the behavior of model under blast load become closer to experimental work.

Implicit and explicit analyses were examined with experimental work done by Razaqpur et al. In the experiment work, two 1000 × 1000 × 70 mm reinforced concrete slabs were constructed. the slabs were subjected to blast loads generated by the detonation of either 22.4 kg or 33.4 kg of ANFO located at a 3.0 m standoff. Blast wave characteristics, including incident and reflected pressures and reflected impulses were measured. the slabs were modeled by implicit and explicit analysis to study their behavior under blast load to compare their predicted and observed behavior. the post-blast damage and mode of failure of each slab were observed. It was concluded that explicit analysis provides better modeling than implicit analysis.

Alfalfa (Medicago sativa) is an important forage crop belonging to the Fabaceae family. It is cultivated across the world for fodder and originated in Asia. Alfalfa cultivar Regen-SY was used in this study which is a hybrid of first-generation self-parents from Regen-S (M. sativa) and Regen-Y (Medicago falcata) research cultivars. the main objective of the study was to optimize conditions for the isolation and liquid culture of alfalfa Regen-SY protoplasts. Several factors like enzyme combination, incubation time, plant age, centrifugation speed and shaker speed affecting protoplast isolation and culture were optimized in the study. the yield and viability of the protoplasts was determined by using hemocytometer and Fluorescein diacetate (FDA) staining respectively. Results showed that factors like enzyme combination, incubation time, plant age, centrifugation speed and Mannitol concentration significantly (p ≤ 0.05) affect protoplast yield and viability whereas shaker speed didn’t result in any significant difference in the yield and viability of protoplasts. Using optimum conditions protoplasts were cultured in the liquid medium and microcalli formation was achieved after five weeks of the culture. the protocol established in this study will assist researchers in the isolation and culture of protoplasts in alfalfa and will accelerate the research processes like protoplast fusion and genetic engineering.

Impact of Age on CD4 Response to Combination Antiretroviral therapy: A Study in tehran, Iran

Background: this study was undertaken to address the controversy regarding immunologic response to combination antiretroviral therapy (cARt) among older patients. Methods: In a cross-sectional study all patients attending the HIV Clinic at Imam Khomeini Hospital (tehran) from 2010 to 2011 were evaluated. Immunologic response was investigated using consecutive CD4+ t-cell counts in a one-year interval and outcomes were analyzed for older (>=50 yrs) and younger (tients using SPSS version 16.0. Results: A total of 714 patients were actively enrolled in the clinic while 24 were 50 years or older, and had initiated ARt;a similar random group of younger patients was selected as the control. Hepatitis C was the most prevalent co-infection in both groups. Patients with no serologic evidence of hepatitis B and C had significantly higher CD4+ t-cell counts than HIV/HBV co-infected patients after 12 months (p = 0.04). the average increased CD4+ t-cell counts in 6, 9, and 12 months of cARt initiation were lower among older patients but the difference was not significant (50.75 vs. 123.08;p = 0.37, 132.87 vs. 710.58;p = 0.25, 271.27 vs. 500;p = 0.65). Conclusion: About 11% of the registered HIV-positive patients at our clinic were 50 years or older while their immunologic response to cARt showed to be different. Specific needs of older HIV infected patients are highly recommended to be addressed in future treatment and care programs.
