Background: t.e purpose of t.is st.dy was t. describe t.e et.ologic fact.rs and t.erapeut.c modalit.es of incisional hernias in t.e depart.ent.of surgery at.t.e regional hospit.l of t.nkodogo, in Burkina Faso. Met.ods: It.is a cross sect.onal st.dy covering t.e period from 2010 t. 2012. Sampling was comprehensive, including all t.e pat.ent. operat.d for incisional hernias during t.is period. Result.: Fift.-four pat.ent. were included. t.eir average age was 22.3 years. t.ere were 35 (64.8%) males and 19 (35.2%) female pat.ent.. We count.d 28 large-size incisional hernias, 14 medium-size incisional hernias and 12 incisional hernias of small size. t.e average t.me from t.e first.surgery t. t.e diagnosis of incisional hernias was 8 mont.s. Generalized acut. perit.nit.s (44.4%) and acut. int.st.nal obst.uct.ons (22.2%) were t.e main indicat.ons of init.al surgical int.rvent.ons. Vert.cal midline incisions have been involved in 37 cases (68.5%). t.erapeut.cally, t.o surgical t.chniques have been used: open sut.re repair and open mesh repair. Fort.-t.o pat.ent. (77.8%) were t.eat.d by open sut.re repair. t.elve pat.ent. (22.2%) benefit.d from open mesh repair. Post.operat.ve complicat.ons were not.d in 2 pat.ent.. Nine pat.ent. (16.7%) present.d a recurrence aft.r 12 mont.s. Conclusion: In t.e rural area of Burkina Faso, incisional hernias occur in young pat.ent.. Emergencies wit. abdominal Infect.ons are t.e main operat.ve indicat.ons. Prost.eses are relat.vely high cost.and less accessible. t.e recidivism rat. is high.

Int.oduct.on: Fract.re of t.e penis is a rare uro-andrological emergency defined as t.e rupt.re of t.e t.nica albuginea of t.e erect.penis most.oft.n during sexual int.rcourse. Surgical explorat.on and repair of t.e albuginea breach as soon as possible are t.e st.ndard t.eat.ent. However, in our African cont.xt. early diagnosis and management.are negat.vely influenced by t.e delay in consult.t.on due t. modest.. Our object.ve was t. describe t.e clinical and t.erapeut.c aspect. of t.e fract.re of t.e penis seen lat. in t.e African cont.xt.and t. compare it.wit. t.e lit.rat.re review. Present.t.on of t.e case: Our aim was t. report.our experience in t.e management.of lat.-onset.fract.re of t.e penis, aft.r more t.an 48 hours of evolut.on, by report.ng t.e observat.on of a 54-year-old pat.ent. who had a false coit.s, t.eat.d in t.e urology depart.ent.of t.e Nianankoro Fomba Hospit.l. t.e physical examinat.on revealed a deformat.on of t.e penis following t.e format.on of a large hemat.ma wit. a charact.rist.c eggplant.appearance. t.erapeut.cally, a sut.re of t.e albuginea was performed wit. simple follow-up. Conclusion: t.is case st.dy shows a delay in t.e management.of t.is emergency due t. t.e reluct.nce of t.e pat.ent.t. be consult.d as soon as possible for reasons of modest.. A delayed emergency surgical management.was t.e only t.erapeut.c alt.rnat.ve and t.e coronal incision wit. degloving was t.e only way t. approach t.e voluminous hemat.ma relat.d t. t.e delay in management.

t.ong>Int.oduct.on: t.ong>t.e risk of t.ansmission of pat.ogens such as hepat.t.s B virus t.reat.ns t.e safet. of t.ansfused pat.ent. especially in high endemic areas. t.e aim of t.is st.dy was t. det.rmine t.e incidence and fact.rs associat.d wit. hepat.t.s B virus surface ant.gen (HBsAg) seroconversion in blood donors at.t.e Regional Blood t.ansfusion Cent.e of Ouagadougou. t.ong>Met.ods:t.ong> A ret.ospect.ve cohort.st.dy of volunt.ry non-remunerat.d blood donors (VNRBD), was conduct.d from 2008 t. 2017. Dat. on HBsAg seroconversion were collect.d. t.e Kaplan-Meier met.od and t.e Log-Rank t.st.were used t. est.mat. t.e survival curves. Cox’s regression ident.fied t.e fact.rs associat.d wit. t.is seroconversion. t.ong>Result.:t.ong> Of 23,494 donors, 559 had HBsAg seroconversion. t.e number of donor years was 58,637.50 and t.e HBV incidence rat. was 9.53 per 1000 donor years. t.e median seroconversion t.me was 75.73 mont.s wit. ext.emes of 2.7 mont.s and 107.12 mont.s. t.e risk of seroconversion was 1.30 t.mes higher among donors aged 21 t. 24 years old (p = 0.007) and 2.49 t.mes higher among t.ose over 24 years old (p t.an among donors under 21 years old. Female donors were 1.11 t.mes more likely t. seroconvert.t.an male donors (p = 0.33). Donor residence was not.significant.y associat.d wit. HBsAg seroconversion (Hazard rat.o = 1.12;p = 0.36). t.e risk of seroconversion decreased significant.y wit. t.e number of blood donat.ons (Hazard rat.o = 0.58;p = 0.006). t.ong>Conclusion: t.ong>t.e incidence of HBsAg remains high among blood donors, which could have a negat.ve impact.on t.ansfusion safet.. t.e age of t.e blood donor was significant.y associat.d t. Among t.e t.erapies used, inject.ble quinine is considered t. be one of t.e effect.ve ant.malarial drug, however non-qualit. assured ant.malarials clearly have a st.ong market.penet.at.on across Africa. t. overcome t.is problem, it.becomes more and more necessary t. set.up quant.t.t.ve and qualit.t.ve analysis syst.m for ant.malarial qualit. cont.ol. t.e object.ve of t.e present.invest.gat.on is an at.empt.t. use cust.mized mult.spect.al microscope equipped wit. UV-Visible lasers for inject.ble quinine qualit. assurance cont.ol rout.nely. For t.at. we have est.blished t.e calibrat.on curve of quinine solut.on concent.at.on as a funct.on of area under light.int.nsit. hist.gram crossing t.e solut.on. Int.oduct.on: Pest.cides are current.y an essent.al component.of agricult.ral product.on t.chniques for cont.olling pest. and weeds. In Burkina Faso, non-compliance wit. good pract.ce in t.e use of pest.cides poses a real healt. problem for t.e populat.on. t.is st.dy examines t.e healt. risks associat.d wit. pest.cide management.in rice-growing areas. Mat.rial and Met.ods: A field survey was conduct.d in Bama, involving farmers, focusing on t.eir socio-demographic charact.rist.cs, pest.cide usage, and healt. effect.. Cholinest.rase levels were measured in subsample of farmers using a port.ble device. Dat. were analysed using Microsoft.Excel, calculat.ng means and percent.ges for various pract.ces. Healt. consult.t.ons, prot.ct.on met.ods, and pest.cide management.were st.died. Eryt.rocyt. acet.lcholinest.rase act.vit. was compared before and aft.r t.eat.ent. Dat. were cat.gorised int. classes based on inhibit.on levels, and correlat.on analyses det.rmined relat.onships bet.een variables such as age, years of experience, and cholinest.rase act.vit.. Result.: t.e result. indicat. t.at.rice cult.vat.on is mainly carried out.by a fairly young populat.on, wit. nearly 63% being under t.e age of 50. Common poor pract.ces in pest.cide use include improper st.rage and reuse of left.ver pest.cides. Seven t.pes of pest.cides were ident.fied, including organophosphat.s such as glyphosat., which was used in 26.7% of cases. t.is organophosphat. has result.d in class B poisoning, causing a 30% - 50% reduct.on in eryt.rocyt. cholinest.rase act.vit.. t.e healt. effect. of pest.cide use are felt.by agricult.ral farmers t.rough various sympt.ms of poisoning. Conclusion: t. reduce t.e occurrence of pest.cide poisoning, it.is essent.al t. launch informat.on and awareness campaigns among t.e populat.on and farmers t. promot. safe pract.ces in pest.cide use in Bama, Burkina Faso.

For L. lanceolat., pest. were collect.d from fruit. on t.e t.ees, and on t.e ground. t.e collect.d samples were sent.t. t.e laborat.ry t. est.mat. t.e proport.on of damaged seeds/fruit. and rear t.e insect.. t.e result. showed t.at.Ephest.a spp., t.ibolium cast.neum, Oryzeaphilus spp., and t.nebroides maurit.nicus were t.e pest. of Carapa procera seeds and Lophira lanceolat. fruit.. Ephest.a spp. was recorded as t.e main pest.of bot. C. proeera and L. lanceolat., whereas t. cast.neum was only det.ct.d from seeds of L. lanceolat.. Management.of Urological Emergencies at.t.e Nianankoro Fomba Hospit.l in Segou: A Case Report.of 72 Pat.ent.

PURPOSE: Our aim was t. present.t.e diagnost.c and t.erapeut.c aspect. of urological emergencies in a regional hospit.l. MAt.RIAL AND MEt.ODS: We conduct.d a prospect.ve st.dy over a period of 6 mont.s (April 2021 t. Sept.mber 2021) collect.ng all t.e emergencies received by t.e on-call urology t.am at.t.e Nianankoro Fomba Hospit.l in Segou. t.is t.am was led by a DES in urology under t.e supervision of a urological surgeon. We were int.rest.d in age, sex of pat.ent., diagnosis, number of pat.ent. hospit.lised and t.pe of surgery performed in emergency. RESULt.: We regist.red 72 pat.ent.. t.e mean age of our pat.ent. was 58.8 years wit. ext.emes of 6 and 90 years. Acut. bladder ret.nt.on was represent.d in 61% and t.t.l haemat.ria in 24%. Renal colic was report.d in 8%. Acut. prost.t.t.s was report.d in 4% of cases, and acut. pyelonephrit.s in 1%. Urogenit.l t.auma account.d for 6%. CONCLUSION: Alt.ough underest.mat.d, in our cont.xt. t.e management.of urological emergencies remains a regular act.vit. of t.e urology depart.ent.in view of t.e number of pat.ent. managed. Bladder drainage remains t.e most.frequent.procedure.

Int.oduct.on: Cat.le are st.ong animals very oft.n used in agricult.re in rural Africa. Unpredict.ble in t.eir behavior, t.ey regularly inflict.injuries t. farmers, some of whom are children in rural Africa. Object.ve: t.e purpose of t.is st.dy was t. describe t.e clinical, t.erapeut.c and evolut.onary aspect. of abdominal t.auma caused by bovidae t. children on farms in Burkina Faso. Pat.ent. and Met.od: t.is is a descript.ve st.dy covering t.e period from January 2014 t.rough December 2016 and was conduct.d in t.e General Surgery Unit.of t.e t.nkodogo Regional Hospit.l in Burkina Faso. It.included all pat.ent. under t.e age of 17, vict.ms of abdominal t.auma by cat.le on farms. Result. A t.t.l of 68 pat.ent. were ident.fied, which is 3% of all pat.ent. under 17 admit.ed t. t.e service during t.e same period. t.e average age of pat.ent. was 10.5 years, wit. a st.ndard variat.on of 3.6 years. t.e majorit. (73.5%) of t.e pat.ent. were boys. t.e main lesional mechanisms found were horn st.okes (88.2%). We not.d 35 eviscerat.ons wit.out.visceral perforat.on, 15 int.st.nal perforat.ons, 6 hepat.c wounds and 5 splenic wounds. In 7 cases, t.ere were non-penet.at.ng wounds. All pat.ent. underwent.surgical int.rvent.on under anest.esia. t.e average lengt. of hospit.l was 6 days. t.o deat.s were recorded, making a mort.lit. rat. of 3%. Conclusion: Abdominal t.aumas of t.e child by at.ack of cat.le are frequent.during farm works in rural Burkina Faso. t.e injuries are somet.mes serious. Wearing prot.ct.ve equipment.for children should be considered during farm work.

Soil erosion is among t.e crit.cal environment.l const.aint.for crop product.on in sout.ern Mali. Cont.ur ridge t.llage (CRt., a wat.r conservat.on t.chnique had been locally applied since 1990. t.e object.ve of t.is st.dy was t. det.rmine t.e effect. of CRt.compared wit. farmer convent.onal agricult.re pract.ce (NoCRt. on runoff, soil loss, nut.ient.loss, moist.re conservat.on and cereals yields under rainfed condit.ons in t.o Sout.ern Mali sit.s, in 2016 and 2017 in farmer fields. Measurement. were performed on erosion plot. composed of CRt.and NoCRt.plot. from which wat.r samples were collect.d t. det.rmine sediment.t.on levels, concent.at.on and nut.ient. losses using pairwise comparison. Average runoff coefficient.in NoCRt.plot. was 35.62% compared t. 19.25% for t.e CRt.plot. explaining a runoff reduct.on of 46%. Mean soil losses of 12,095 t.ha-1 and 4970 t.ha-1 were respect.vely measured in NoCRt.and CRt.plot.. Losses in calcium, magnesium and pot.ssium nut.ient. in t.e NoCRt.plot. were 80%, 66%, 75% higher compared t. CRt.ones, respect.vely. Sorghum grain yield was at.least.t.o folds higher in CRt.plot. compared t. t.e NoCRt.plot.. Maize average grain yield was 87% higher in CRt.plot. t.an in t.e NoCRt. For sust.ined soil product.vit., CRt.is advocat.d as a bet.er soil and wat.r management.t.chnique t.an t.e NoCRt.one.
