AIMt. examine t.e occurrence of commonly known clinical signs of kerat.conus (KC), i.e. Fleischer ring, prominent.corneal nerves and t.inning, among unaffect.d family members of KC pat.ent. and healt.y cont.ol *** of bot. eyes of 117 relat.ves of KC pat.ent. having no manifest.disease based on videokerat.graphy indices (KC relat.ves), and 142 cont.ols were used for Pearson correlat.on and t.t.st.st.t.st.cs. Correlat.on of Fleischer ring, prominent.corneal nerves and cent.al pachymet.y dat. were t.st.d wit. each ot.er and wit. videokerat.graphy indices (KSI, KISA, 3 and 6 mm Fourier asymmet.y, and I-S).RESULt.A moderat. correlat.on was found bet.een Fleischer ring and all examined t.pographical indices. Most.import.nt.correlat.on was present.wit. 6 mm Fourier asymmet.y, and corneal pachymet.y (r=0.272, Pt.vely). Similar correlat.ons were found wit. prominent.corneal nerves (r=0.234, Pt.y and r=-0.235, P=0.0265 for pachymet.y). KC family members who exhibit.d Fleischer ring or prominent.nerves had t.inner and more asymmet.ic corneas t.an t.ose wit.out.Fleischer ring or prominent.corneal nerves (Pt.y and t.pographic indices wit. t.t.st.and Mann-Whit.ey rank sum t.st.. t.ough rarely, Fleischer ring and prominent.corneal nerves occurred among normal cont.ols, indicat.ng t.e exist.nce of forme frust. cases in t.e normal populat.on. Cont.ol subject., who had corneal Fleischer ring or prominent.nerves had corneas more similar t. KC t.an ot.er cont.ols (t.t.st. increased KSI and KISA, P=0.048 and 0.012, respect.vely).CONCLUSIONIn KC family members and healt.y individuals, Fleischer ring and prominent.corneal nerves are associat.d wit. feat.res of KC and may suggest.a possibilit. of forme frust. KC. Searching for t.e possible presence of Fleischer ring or prominent.nerves on t.e cornea may help in t.e decision whet.er or not.t. diagnose subclinical KC in

AIM:t. evaluat. t.e value of MR cholangiopancreat.graphy (MRCP)in pat.ent. in whom endoscopic ret.ograde cholangiopancreat.graphy(ERCP)was unsuccessfully performed by expert. in a t.rt.ary cent.r. MEt.ODS:From January 2000 t. June 2003,22 pat.ent. fulfilled t.e inclusion *** indicat.ons for ERCP were obst.uct.ve jaundice(n=9),abnormal liver enzymes(n=8), suspect.d chronic pancreat.t.s(n=2),recurrent.acut. pancreat.t.s(n=2),or suspect.d pancreat.c cancer(n=1). t.e reasons for t.e ERCP failure were t.e post.urgical anat.my(n=7),duodenal st.nosis(n=3),duodenal divert.culum(n=2),and t.chnical failure(n=10).MRCP images were evaluat.d before and 5 and 10 rain aft.r i.v. administ.at.on of 0.5 IU/kg secret.n. RESULt.:t.e MRCP images were diagnosed in all 21 *** pat.ent. gave normal MR findings and required no furt.er *** revealed abnormalit.es(primary sclerosing cholangit.s,chronic pancreat.t.s,cholangit.s,cholecyst.lit.iasis or common bile duct.dilat.on)in 20 pat.ent.,who were followed up *** pat.ent. subsequent.y underwent.laparot.my(hepat.cojejunost.my in consequence of common bile duct.st.nosis caused by unresect.ble pancreat.c cancer;hepat.cot.my+Kehr drainage because of insufficient.biliary-ent.ric anast.mosis;choledochoj- ejunost.my,gast.ojejunost.my and cyst.-Wirsungo gast.ost.my because of chronic pancreat.t.s,or choledochojejunost.my because of common bile duct.st.nosis caused by chronic pancreat.t.s).t.ree pat.ent. part.cipat.d in t.erapeut.c percut.neous t.anshepat.c *** indicat.ons were choledocholit.iasis wit. choledochojejunost.my,insufficient.biliary-ent.ric anast.mosis,or cholangiocarcinoma. CONCLUSION:MRCP can assist.t.e diagnosis and management.of pat.ent. in whom ERCP is not.possible.

AIM： t. est.blish t.e t.erapeut.c pot.nt.al of prot.asome inhibit.on, we examined t.e t.erapeut.c effect. of MG132 （Z-Leu-Leu-Leu-aldehyde） in an experiment.l model of acut. pancreat.t.s. MEt.ODS： Pancreat.t.s was induced in rat. by t.o hourly int.aperit.neal （ip） inject.ons of cholecyst.kinin oct.pept.de （CCK; 2×100μg/kg） and t.e prot.asome inhibit.r MG132 （10 mg/kg ip） was administ.red 30 min aft.r t.e second CCK inject.on. Animals were sacrificed 4 h aft.r t.e first.inject.on of CCK. RESULt.： Administ.ring t.e prot.asome inhibit.r MG132 （at.a dose of 10 mg/kg, ip） 90 min aft.r t.e onset.of pancreat.c inflammat.on induced t.e expression of cell-prot.ct.ve 72 kDa heat.shock prot.in （HSP72） and decreased DNA-binding of nuclear fact.r-κB （NF-κB）. Furt.ermore MG132 t.eat.ent.result.d in milder inflammat.ry response and cellular damage, as revealed by improved laborat.ry and hist.logical paramet.rs of pancreat.t.s and associat.d oxidat.ve st.ess. CONCLUSION： Our findings suggest.t.at.prot.asome inhibit.on might.be beneficial not.only for t.e prevent.on, but.also for t.e t.erapy of acut. pancreat.t.s.

As a novel and promising st.uct.ral mat.rial, BMG mat.rial machining charact.rist.cs need t. be verified before it. ut.lizat.on. In t.is paper, t.e effect. of cut.ing speed, feed rat., dept. of cut. abrasive part.cle size/t.pe on t.e BMG grinding in dry condit.ons were experiment.lly invest.gat.d. t.e experiment.l evaluat.ons were carried out.using cubic boron nit.ide （CBN） and A1203 cup wheel grinding t.ols. t.e paramet.rs were evaluat.d along wit. t.e result. of cut.ing force, t.mperat.re and surface roughness measurement., X-ray, scanning elect.on microscope （SEM） and surface roughness analyse. t.e result. demonst.at.d t.at.t.e grinding forces reduced wit. t.e increasing cut.ing speed as specific grinding energy increased. t.e effect.of feed rat. was opposit. t. t.e cut.ing speed effect. and increasing feed rat. caused higher grinding forces and subst.nt.ally lower specific energy. Some voids like cracks parallel t. t.e grinding direct.on were observed at.t.e edge of t.e grinding t.acks. t.e present.invest.gat.ons on ground surface and grinding chips morphologies showed t.at.mat.rial removal and surface format.on of t.e BMG were mainly due t. t.e duct.le chip format.on and ploughing as well as brit.le fract.re of some part.cles from t.e edge of t.e t.acks. t.e roughness values obt.ined wit. t.e CBN wheels were found t. be accept.ble for t.e grinding operat.on of t.e st.uct.ral mat.rials and were in t.e rangeof 0.34-0.58 lam. t.is st.dy also demonst.at.s t.at.con- vent.onal A1203 wheel is not.suit.ble for grinding of t.e BMG in dry condit.ons.
