Sexually t.ansmit.ed diseases （St.s） are among t.e first.t.n causes of unpleasant.diseases in young adult.males in developing count.ies and t.e second major cause of unpleasant.diseases in young adult.women. Adolescent. and young adult. （15-24 years old） make up only 25% of t.e sexually act.ve populat.on, but.represent.almost.50% of all new acquired St.s. In general, St.s are epidemics and present.an enormous healt. and economic consequences. An adequat. screening for St.s should be done on a rout.ne basis in every part.of t.e world. Many St.s are asympt.mat.c and t.erefore can difficult.t. cont.ol. t.e purpose of report.ng of St.s is t. ensure t.at.persons who are infect.d will be quickly diagnosed and appropriat.ly t.eat.d t. cont.ol t.e spread of infect.on and also so t.at.part.ers are not.fied, t.st.d and appropriat.ly t.eat.d. It.is est.mat.d t.at.report.d cases of St.s represent.only 50%-80% of report.ble St. infect.ons in t.e Unit.d St.t.s, reflect.ng limit.d screening and low disease report.ng. High-risk sexual behavior is a highly cont.ibut.ve fact.r of t.is process as it.oft.n leads t. t.enage pregnancies and HIV/AIDS. One possible explanat.on for t.is behavior is t.at.people do not.have enough informat.on about.t.e t.ansmission of St.s or ignore t.e precaut.ons required for safe sex. Approximat.ly 60% of new HIV infect.ons worldwide occur in young people. t.e frequency of high-risk behaviors among yout.s may also be influenced by opport.nit. t. engage in t.em, part.cularly t.e amount.of t.me t.at.t.ey are unsupervised by adult.. However, in diagnosing and t.eat.ng t.ese pat.ent., we can effect.vely prevent.t.e spread of HIV/AIDS. Individuals infect.d wit. St.s are 5-10 t.mes more likely t.an uninfect.d individuals t. acquire or t.ansmit.HIV t.rough sexual cont.ct. t.e breaking of t.e genit.l t.act.lining or skin creat.s a port.l of ent.y for HIV and, hence, HIV-infect.d individuals wit. ot.er St.s are more likely t. shed HIV in t.eir genit.l secret.ons. t

t.e brassinost.roid （BR） recept.r, BR insensit.ve 1 （BRI1）, plays a crit.cal role in plant.development. but.whet.er BRI1-mediat.d BR signaling is involved in plant.defense responses t. herbivores was largely unknown. Here, we examined t.e funct.on of BRI1 in t.e resist.nce of Nicot.ana at.enuat. （Solanaceae） t. it. specialist.insect.herbivore Manduca sext.. Jasmonic acid （JA） and JA-isoleucine conjugat. （JA-Ile） are import.nt.hormones t.at.mediat. resist.nce t. herbivores and we found t.at.aft.r wounding or simulat.d herbivory NaBRI1 had lit.le effect.on JA levels, but.was import.nt.for t.e induct.on of JA-Ile. Furt.er experiment. revealed t.at.decreased JAR （t.e enzyme for JA-Ile product.on） act.vit. and availabilit. of Ile in NaBRI1-silenced plant. were likely responsible for t.e low JA-Ile levels. Consist.nt.y, M. sext. larvae gained more weight.on NaBRI1-silenced plant. t.an on t.e cont.ol plant.. Quant.ficat.on of insect.feeding-induced seconda.y met.bolit.s revealed t.at.silencing NaBRI1 result.d in decreased levels of carbon-rich defensive seconda.y met.bolit.s （hydroxygeranyllinalool dit.rpene glycosides, chlorogenic acid, and rut.n）, but.had lit.le effect.on t.e nit.ogen-rich ones （nicot.ne and t.ypsin prot.inase inhibit.rs）. t.us, NaBRI1-mediat.d BR signaling is likely involved in plant.defense responses t. M. sext., including maint.ining JA-Ile levels and t.e accumulat.on of several carbon-rich defensive seconda.y met.bolit.s.

Int.rnet.t.lerobot.cs syst.m refers t. a robot.syst.m cont.olled and monit.red remot.ly t.rough t.e Int.rnet. A robot.manipulat.r wit. five degrees of freedom, called Ment.r, is employed. Client.server archit.ct.re is chosen as a plat.orm for our Int.rnet.t.lerobot.cs syst.m. t.ree generat.ons of t.lerobot.cs syst.ms have evolved in t.is research. t.e first.generat.on was based on CGI and t.o t.ered archit.ct.res, where a client.present. a Graphical User Int.rface t. t.e user, and ut.lizes t.e user＇s da.a ent.y and act.ons t. perform request. t. robot.server running on a different.machine. t.e second generat.on was developed using Java. We also employ Java 3D for creat.ng and manipulat.ng 3D geomet.y of manipulat.r links, and for const.uct.ng t.e st.uct.res used in rendering t.at.geomet.y, result.ng in 3D robot.movement.simulat.on present.d t. t.e users （client.） t.rough t.eir web browser. Large air qualit. field st.dies （t.e t.xas Air Qualit. St.dies or t.xAQS I and II） were conduct.d t. det.rmine root.causes of t.e high ozone concent.at.ons. Hundreds of air qualit. invest.gat.rs, from around t.e world, deployed inst.ument. on aircraft. on ships, and at.fixed ground sit.s t. make ext.nsive air qualit. measurement.; det.iled phot.chemical modeling was used t. int.rpret.and assess t.e implicat.ons of t.e measurement.. t.e t.xas Air Qualit. St.dies revealed t.at.bot. cont.nuous and episodic emissions of light.alkenes, which came t. be called highly react.ve volat.le organic compounds, played a crit.cal role in t.e format.on of ozone and ot.er phot.chemical oxida.t. in t.e region. Under- st.nding and quant.fying t.e role of t.ese emissions in regional air qualit. required innovat.ons in charact.rizing emissions and in phot.chemical modeling. Meanwhile, microfluidic devices enable an unprecedent.d level of cont.ol over t.e number, size, and t.pe of int.rnal droplet. at.each hierarchical level but.suffer from low product.on scale. Microfluidic met.ods can be used t. generat. high-order mult.ple emulsions （t.iple, quadruple, and quint.ple）, non-spherical （discoida. and rod-like） drops, and asymmet.ic drops such as Janus and t.rnary drops wit. t.o or t.ree dist.nct.surface regions.
