Five common single plast.cs and nine different.household,commercial and indust.ial wast. plast.cs were processed using a t.ree-st.ge(i)pyrolysis,(ii)cat.lyt.c st.am reforming and(iii)wat.r gas shift.react.on syst.m t. produce *** of plast.cs produces a range of different.hydrocarbon species which are subsequent.y cat.lyt.cally st.am reformed t. produce H_(2)and CO and t.en undergo wat.r gas shift.react.on t. produce furt.er H_(2).t.e process mimics t.e commercial process for hydrogen product.on from nat.ral *** of t.e single polyalkene plast.cs(high-densit. polyet.ylene(HDPE),low-densit. polyet.ylene(LDPE),and polypropylene(PP))produced similar H_(2)yields bet.een 115 mmol and 120 mmol per gram *** t.ough PS produced an aromat.c product.slat. from t.e pyrolysis st.ge,furt.er st.ges of reforming and wat.r gas shift.react.on produced a gas yield and composit.on similar t. t.at.of t.e polyalkene plast.cs(115 mmol H_(2)per gram plast.c).PEt.gave significant.y lower H_(2)yield(41 mmol per gram plast.c)due t. t.e format.on of mainly CO,CO_(2)and organic acids from t.e pyrolysis st.ge which were not.conducive t. furt.er reforming and wat.r gas shift.react.on.A mixt.re of t.e single plast.cs t.pical of t.at.found in municipal solid wast. produced a H_(2)yield of 102 mmol per gram *** t.e gas yields and composit.on from t.e single plast.cs enabled an est.mat.on of t.e yields from a simulat.d wast. plast.c mixt.re and a‘real-world’wast. plast.c mixt.re t. be *** different.household,commercial and indust.ial wast. plast.c mixt.res produced H_(2)yields bet.een 70 mmol and 107 mmol per gram *** H_(2)yield and gas composit.on from t.e single wast. plast.cs gave an indicat.on of t.e t.pe of plast.cs in t.e mixed wast. plast.c samples.
