In this paper, the design, customization and implem en tation of an integrated Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) system for a Semi conductor Backend Assembly environment is described. the company is one of the w orldwide market leaders in semiconductor packaging technology. the project was d riven by the company’s quest to achieve a competitive edge as a manufacturing po werhouse by providing the shortest possible cycle time with a high degree of fle xibility through the application of Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) tech nology. Gintic was responsible for the Planning & Scheduling functions through o ur APS tool kit, which is called Gintic Scheduling System (GSS). Our APS system is to be integrated with the other two key software systems, namely, the Enterpr ise Resource Planning (ERP) and Manufacturing Execution System (MES), with the C IM framework. the project was divided into four major execution phases. Phase One activities w ere focused on the gathering and analysis of the end users requirements in order to establish the ’As-Is’ situation and the wish list & the expectation of the ’to-Be’ system. Planning and Scheduling prototypes were built using GSS to iden tify the functionality gap between the existing GSS system and the ’to-Be’ mode l, in order to determine the customization effort needed. the project team perfo rmed detailed system analysis, design and development of the ’to-Be’ system dur ing Phase two of the project. there are a total of four planning and scheduling modules, including Capacity Planning (CP), Daily Lot Release (DLR), Daily Produc tion Scheduling (DPS) and Dynamic Operation Scheduling (DOS). the detailed desig n specifications of each of the features and functionality were confirmed and ac cepted by the end users before the commencement of the development effort. the c ompleted and tested modules were delivered in stages for testing and acceptance by the end user during the Phase three of the project. Diurnal Regulation of Lipid Metabolism and Applications of Circadian Lipidomics

the circadian timing system plays a key role in orchestrating lipid metabolism. In concert with the solar cycle, the circadian system ensures that daily rhythms in lipid absorption, storage, and transport are temporally coordinated with rest-activity and feeding cycles. At the cellular level, genes involved in lipid synthesis and fatty acid oxidation are rhythmically activated and repressed by core clock proteins in a tissue-specific manner. Consequently, loss of clock gene function or misalignment of circadian rhythms with feeding cycles （e.g., in shift work） results in impaired lipid homeostasis. Herein, we review recent progress in circadian rhythms research using lipidomics, i.e., large-scale profiling of lipid metabolites, to characterize circadian-regulated lipid pathways in mammals. In mice, novel regulatory circuits involved in fatty acid metabolism have been identified in adipose tissue, liver, and muscle. Extensive diversity in circadian regulation of plasma lipids has also been revealed in humans using lipidomics and other metabolomics approaches. In future studies, lipidomics platforms will be increasingly used to better understand the effects of genetic variation, shift work, food intake, and drugs on circadian-regulated lipid pathways and metabolic health.

Large eddy simulation of free-surface flows

this paper introduces and discusses numerical methods for flee-surface flow simulations and applies a large eddy simula- tion （LES） based flee-surface-resolved CFD method to a couple of flows of hydraulic engineering interest. the advantages, dis- advantages and limitations of the various methods are discussed. the review prioritises interface capturing methods over interface tracking methods, as these have shown themselves to be more generally applicable to viscous flows of practical engineering interest, particularly when complex and rapidly changing surface topologies are encountered. then, a LES solver that employs the level set method to capture flee-surface deformation in 3-D flows is presented, as are results from two example calculations that concern com- plex low submergence turbulent flows over idealised roughness elements and bluff bodies. the results show that the method is capable of predicting very complex flows that are characterised by strong interactions between the bulk flow and the free-surface, and permits the identification of turbulent events and structures that would be very difficult to measure experimentally.

Review of micromachining of ceramics by etching

In the last two decades, there has been an enormous surge in interest in ceramic materials and, as a result, there have been significant advances in their development and applications. their inherent properties, such as capability of operating at temperatures far above metals, high level of hardness and toughness, low coefficient of thermal expansion and high thermal conductivity rendered ceramics to be one of the leading engineering materials. Many research works have been conducted in the past few years on machining of advanced ceramics using different processing methods in order to obtain a better surface roughness, higher material removal rate and improved tool life. Micromachining using chemical etching is one of those methods that do not involve the problem of tool life and direct tool-work piece contact. However, only a few research works have been done on micromachining of ceramics using chemical etching. Hence, study of chemical machining of advanced ceramics is still needed as the process has found wide application in the industry because of its relative low operating costs. In this work, we summarize the recent progresses in machining of different types of advanced ceramics, material processing methods such as wet etching and dry etching, and finally the prospects for control of material removal rate and surface quality in the process of ceramic micromachining.

Carcinogenesis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma:an alternate hypothetical mechanism

Current proposed mechanisms implicate both early and latent Epstein-Barr virus(EBV)infection in the carcinogenic cascade,whereas epidemiological studies have always associated nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC)with early childhood EBV infection and with chronic ear,nose,and sinus ***,most patients with NPC present with IgA antibody titers to EBV capsid antigen(VCA-lgA),which can precede actual tumor presentation by several *** early childhood EBV infection indeed constitutes a key event in NPC carcinogenesis,one would have to explain the inability to detect the virus in normal nasopharyngeal epithelium of patients at a high risk for EBV *** is perhaps possible that EBV resides within the salivary glands,instead of the epithelium,during *** claim is indirectly supported by observations that the East Asian phenotype shares the characteristics of an increased susceptibility to NPC and immature salivary gland morphogenesis,the latter of which is influenced by the association of salivary gland morphogenesis with an evolutionary variant of the human ectodysplasin receptor gene(EDAR),*** the immature salivary gland represents a more favorable nidus for EBV is uncertain,but in patients with infectious mononucleosis,EBV has been isolated in this anatomical *** presence of EBV-induced lymphoepitheliomas in the salivary glands and lungs further addresses the possibility of submucosal spread of the *** to the fact that the fossa of Rosen Muller contains a transformative zone active only in the first decade of life,one might be tempted to speculate the possibility of an alternative carcinogenic cascade for NPC that is perhaps not dissimilar to the model of human papillomavirus and cervical cancer.

Customisable sound absorption properties of functionally graded metallic foams

In this study,functionally graded foam made of Inconel 625 superalloy was successfully produced using the template replication method,with open-cell polyurethane foams as a *** products have a similar pore morphology as the templates and adjacent layers were successfully sintered together by particle *** absorption experiments on graded metallic foams reveal that the sound absorption at particular frequency ranges can be improved by various permutations of foam *** graded foam of two distinct pore sizes,a mathematical equation was proposed to predict the location of the intersection point of the sound absorption curves,thereby aiding in graded foam *** increase in sound absorption coefficients by resonance-like effects can be introduced before the intersection points by placing the foam layer of smaller pore size nearer to the sound *** sound absorption performances can be further customized when the thickness proportion of the pore sizes is changed and when the number of distinct pore sizes used is *** sound absorption performance at lower frequencies is generally boosted by resonance-like effects when the layer of foam with the largest pore size is placed furthest from the sound *** the same composition of foam with a fixed thickness proportion of pore sizes,one can introduce resonance-like effects to improve the sound absorption performance compared to other permutations while possibly satisfying weight requirements in practical *** study provides valuable insights and mathematical guidelines in the design and manufacturing of functionally graded metallic foam for specific applications.

Numerical simulation of hydrodynamic characteristics and bedload transport in cross sections of two gravel-bed rivers based on one-dimensional lateral distribution method

Accurate evaluation and prediction of bedload transport are crucial in studies of fluvial hydrodynamic characteristics and river *** paper presents a one-dimensional numerical model based on the one-dimensional lateral distribution method(1 D-LDM) and six classic bedload transport formulae that can be used to simulate hydrodynamic characteristics and bedload transport discharge in cross *** gravel-bed rivers,*** Danube River located approximately 70 km downstream from Bratislava in Slovakia and the tolten River in south of Chile are used as *** the 1 D-LDM,gravity,bed shear stress,turbulent diffusion,and secondary flow are included to allow for accurate predictions of flow velocity and consequently bed shear stress in the cross *** classic formulae were applied to evaluate the non-dimensional bedload transport rate,and the bedload transport discharge through a river cross section is obtained by integrating the bedload transport rate over the width of the cross *** results show that the root mean square error(RMSE) and mean absolute error(MAE) of velocity and water discharge were less than 8% of the observed magnitude,while the correlation coefficient between model predictions and observations was close to *** formulae proposed by Ashida and Michiue(1972),in which particle collision with the bed is taken into account,and by Camenen and Larson(2005),which allows for yielding a non-zero bedload transport rate even when the bed shear stress is smaller than the critical bed shear stress value,appeared to be more appropriate for predicting the observed bedload transport rate in the studied cross sections of two gravel-bed *** non-uniform sediment mixtures were considered,the bedload transport discharge through a cross-section could change considerably by up to 22.5% of the observed *** relations proposed by Ashida and Michiue(1972) and Egiazaroff(1965) for parameterizing the hiding factor yielded more

Dear Editor,Previous studies had described the adaptation of enterovirus 71(EV-A71)strains that enabled entry and viral replication in Chinese Hamster Ovary(CHO)cell line(Zaini and McMinn 2012;Zaini et al.2012).these adapted strains derived from serial passage of a clinical isolate in CHO cells exhibited an amino acid substitution at VP2149,which enhanced viral replication by 100*1000-fold compared to the clinical *** VP2149 mutation was claimed responsible for adaptation to CHO-K1 cells without performing detailed molecular analyses to support these *** this study,we evaluate various VP1 and VP2 mutations in two CHO-adapted EV-A71 strains derived in our lab to assess their contribution to the phenotype of CHO cell adaptation.
