Desulfurization of natural gas is achieved commercially by absorption with liquid amine solutions. Adsorption technology could potentially replace the solvent extraction process, particularly for the emerging shale gas wells with production rates that are generally lower than that from the large conventional reservoirs, if a superior adsorbent （sorbent） is developed. In this review, we focus our discussion on three types of sorbents： metal- oxide based sorbents, Cu/Ag-based and other commercial sorbents, and amine-grafted silicas. the advantages and disadvantages of each type are analyzed. Possible approaches for future developments to further improve these sorbents are suggested, particularly for the most promising amine-grafted silicas.

Buckling restrained knee braced truss moment frame （BRKBtMF） is a novel and innovative steel structural system that utilizes the advantages of long-span trusses and dedicated structural fuses for seismic applications. Steel trusses are very economical and effective in spanning large distance. However, conventional steel trusses are typically not suitable for seismic application, due to its lack of ductility and poor energy dissipation capacity. BRKBtMF utilizes buckling restrained braces （BRBs） as the designated structural fuses to dissipate the sudden surge of earthquake energy. this allows the BRKBtMF to economically and efficiently create large span structural systems for seismic applications. In this paper, a prototype BRKBtMF office building located in Berkeley, California, USA, was designed using performance-based plastic design procedure. the seismic performance of the prototype building was assessed using the state-of-the-art finite element software, OpenSees. Detailed BRB hysteresis and advanced element removal technique was implemented. the modeling approach allows the simulation for the force-deformation response of the BRB and the force redistribution within the system after the BRBs fracture. the developed finite element model was analyzed using incremental dynamic analysis approach to quantify the seismic performance of BRKBtMF. the results show BRKBtMF has excellent seismic performance with well controlled structural responses and resistance against collapse. In addition, life cycle repair cost of BRKBtMF was assessed using the next-generation performance-based earthquake engineering framework. the results confirm that BRKBtMF can effectively control the structural and non-structural component damages and minimize the repair costs of the structure under different ranges of earthquake shaking intensities. this studies conclude that BRKBtMF is a viable and effective seismic force resisting system.

(FePt/Ag)n nano-multilayers were deposited on MgO (100) single crystal with laser ablation and then subjected to annealing. FePt L1o grains with (001) texture and thus a large perpendicular magnetic anisotropy constant Ku of the order of 106 J/m3 were formed. A thick Ag layer is found to be favorable for decreasing the dispersion of the easy axis for magnetization. the measurement of time decay of magnetization gave rise to a small activation volume of the order of 10-25m3, showing the promising of being the recording medium for future high density perpendicular recording.

Based on a typical prototype of a soil slope in engineering practice, a numerical model of a three-stage soil slope supported by the anchor frame structure was established by means of FLAC3D code. the dynamic responses of three-stage soil slope and frame structure were studied by performing a series of bidirectional Wenchuan motions in terms of the failure mode of three-stage structure, the acceleration of soil slope, the displacement of frame structure, and the anchor stress of frame structure. the response accelerations in both horizontal and vertical directions are the most largely amplified at the slope top of each stage subjected to different shaking cases. the platforms among the stages reduce the amplification effect of response acceleration. the residual displacement of frame structure increases significantly as the intensity of shaking case increases. the frame structure at each stage presents a combined displacement mode consisting of a translation and a rotation around the vertex. the anchor stress of frame structure is mainly increased by the first intense pulse of Wenchuan seismic wave, and it is sensitive to the intensity of shaking case. the anchor stress of frame structure at the first stage is the most considerably enlarged by earthquake loading.

the concept of health monitoring is a key aspect of the field of medicine that has been practiced for a long time. A commonly used diagnostic and health monitoring practice is pulse diagnosis, which can be traced back approximately five thousand years in the recorded history of China. With advances in the development of modern technology, the concept of health monitoring of a variety of engineering structures in several applications has begun to attract widespread attention. Of particular interest in this study is the health monitoring of civil structures. It seem natural, and even beneficial, that these two health-monitoring methods, one as applies to the human body and the other to civil structures, should be analyzed and compared. In this paper, the basic concepts and theories of the two monitoring methods are first discussed. Similarities are then summarized and commented upon. It is hoped that this correlation analysis may help provide structural engineers with some insights into the intrinsic concept of using pulse diagnosis in human health monitoring, which may of be some benefit in the development of modern structural health monitoring methods.

traditional procedures to treat vibrations of gyroscopic continua involve direct application of perturbation methods to a system with both a strong gyroscopic term and other weakly coupled *** this study,a gyroscopic modes decoupling method is used to obtain an equivalent system with decoupled gyroscopic modes having only weak *** the axially moving string as an example,the instability boundaries in the vicinity of parametric resonances are detected using both the traditional coupled gyroscopic system and our system with decoupled gyroscopic modes,and the results are compared to show the advantages and disadvantages of each method.

Eutectic-reaction brazing of Al_(0.3)CoCrFeNi high-entropy alloys using Ni/Nb/Ni interlayers

In this study,a novel eutectic-reaction brazing of Al_(0.3)CoCrFeNi high-entropy alloys(HEAs)^(1)was investigated with a design of laminated Ni/Nb/Ni *** typical Al_(0.3)CoCrFeNi brazing seam consisted of proeutecticγ,the lamellar eutectic structure composed of face-centered cubic(FCC)phase(eutecticγ)and C14 Laves,as well as a few amounts of Nb based solid solution.A high density of nanoscale ordered L1_(2)(γ)phase was precipitated withinγphase *** the brazing temperature raised from 1200 to 1320℃,the dissolution volume of Al_(0.3)CoCrFeNi alloy into Ni-Nb liquid was *** microstructure of the brazing seam changed from hypereutectic(blocky Laves+γphase)to eutectic(Laves+eutecticγ)to hypoeutectic structures(proeutecticγ+Laves/γeutectic structure).the shear strength of joints was increased gradually due to the formation of eutectic lamellae and the cellular growth of proeutecticγ*** maximum shear strength of the joint brazed at 1320℃for 10 min was up to 592 MPa,reaching 95%of the base *** joint mainly ruptured in the soft proeutecticγphase in a ductile fracture mode.

Influences of residual stress and micro-deformation on microstructures and mechanical properties for ti-6.5Al-3.5Mo-1.5Zr-0.3Si alloy produced by laser powder bed fusion

Laser powder bed fusion(LPBF)yields unique advantages during the fabrication of titanium *** the present work,ti-6.5 Al-3.5 Mo-1.5 Zr-0.3 Si alloy specimens with excellent mechanical performances were fabricated by *** as-built specimens displayed relatively high strength and ductility under modest volume energy densities(VEDs),whereas they manifested high strength with low ductility under high *** investigate the key reason of this phenomenon,the specimens were designed with two VEDs ranges of 60 J/mm^(3) and 85 J/mm^(3).Special attention was paid to the influences of residual stress and micro-deformation on microstructures and mechanical properties for the first *** results indicated that the residual stresses and relative density of the 60 J/mm^(3) range specimens were higher than that of the 85 J/mm3 range *** multiplication and dislocation movement promoted by the residual stress were hindered by the initialα’phase grain boundary(prior-α’GB),leading to the formation ofα’metastable *** mean tensile strength and elongation of the 60 J/mm^(3) range specimens were 1248.1 MPa and 12.3%,respectively,whereas the corresponding values for the 85 J/mm^(3) range specimens were 1405.3 MPa,5.0%,*** deformation,the strength and ductility of the specimens were first improved by lamellar structures generated from prior-α’phases,and then effectively enhanced by the interaction between the{10–12}twins and ***,pores significantly reduced the ductility;hence,high VED specimens with large twins and numerous large pores increased the strength and reduce the ductility.

the reduction behavior of iron ore pellets containing carbon under non-isothermal condition in the temperature range from 573 to 1373 K was investigated in a laboratory scale setup. the test results show that carbon content has no obvious effect on reduction degree of composite pellets (C/O mole ratio=1.0) by CO in the temperature range from 573 to 1373 K under linear temperature-rising program; reduction degree of iron ore pellets containing carbon is large in 90%CO-10%CO2 mixture than that of in 100%CO atmosphere or in 80%CO-20%CO2 mixture; the s type temperature-rising program has a better effect than that of linear one in increasing the reduction degree; and reduction degree of slower linear temperature-rising program is greater than that of faster one, but the final reduction degrees, i.e., those at the highest temperature are about the same for various CO partial pressures or temperature-rising programs. the kinetic analysis also shows that the reduction of iron ore-carbon composite pellets by CO or CO-CO2 mixture under non-isothermal condition should be controlled by surface reaction, and the apparent reduction activation energy changes with the reduction progress under various test conditions.
