Patient reported outcome measures in anterior cruciate ligament rupture and reconstruction:the significance of outcome score prediction

BACKGROUND Numerous anterior cruciate ligament(ACL) clinical outcome measures ***,the result of one score does not equate to the findings of another even when evaluating the same patient *** to investigate if statistically derived formulae can be used to predict the outcome of one knee scoring system when the result of another is known in patients with ACL rupture before and after *** Fifty patients with ACL rupture were evaluated using nine clinical outcome *** included tegner Activity score,Lysholm Knee score,Cincinnati Knee score,International Knee Documentation Committee(IKDC) Objective Knee score,tapper and Hoover Meniscal Grading score,IKDC subjective Knee score,Knee Outcome survey-Activities of Daily Living scale(KOs-ADLs),short Form-12 Item Health survey and Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome *** patients underwent an ACL reconstruction and were reassessed *** the mean total of each of the nine outcome scores appreciably differed from each *** correlations and regressions were found between most of the outcome scores and were stronger *** strongest correlation was found between Cincinnati and KOs-ADLs (r=0.91,Pthe strongest regression formula was also found between Cincinnati and KOs-ADLs (R~2=0.84,PsION the formulae produced from this study can be used to predict the outcome of one knee score when the results of the other are *** formulae could facilitate the conduct of systematic reviews and meta-analysis in studies relating to ACL injuries by allowing the pooling of substantially more data.

In Korea, trilobites are among the most intensively studied fossil groups in the past century and provide invaluable information about lower Paleozoic stratigraphy, paleogeography, and tectonics of the Korean Peninsula. trilobites occur in the lower Paleozoic Joseon supergroup of the taebaeksan Basin which was part of the sino-Korean Craton in the Paleozoic. the Joseon supergroup is divided into the taebaek, Yeongwol, and Mungyeong groups. the taebaek and Yeongwol groups are richly fossiliferous, while the Mungyeong Group is poorly fossiliferous. Contrasting trilobite faunal contents of the taebaek and Yeongwol groups resulted in two separate biostratigraphic schemes for the Cambrian–Ordovician of the taebaeksan Basin. A total of 22 biozones or fossiliferous horizons were recognized in the taebaek Group; 19 zones were established in the Yeongwol Group; and four biozones were known from the Mungyeong Group. these trilobite biozones of the taebaeksan Basin indicate the Joseon supergroup ranges in age from the Cambrian series 2 to Middle Ordovician and can be correlated well with the formations of North China, south China, and Australia.

Use of gene-editing technology to introduce targeted modifications in pigs

Pigs are an important resource in agriculture and serve as a model for human diseases. Due to their physiological and anatomical similarities with humans, pigs can recapitulate symptoms of human diseases, making them a useful model in biomedicine. However, in the past pig models have not been widely used partially because of the difficulty in genetic modification. the lack of true embryonic stem cells in pigs forced researchers to utilize genetic modification in somatic cells and somatic cell nuclear transfer(sCNt) to generate genetically engineered(GE) pigs carrying site-specific modifications. Although possible, this approach is extremely inefficient and GE pigs born through this method often presented developmental defects associated with the cloning process. Advancement in the gene-editing systems such as Zinc-Finger Nucleases(ZFNs), transcription activator-like effector nucleases(tALENs), and the Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat(CRIsPR)/CRIsPR-associated 9(Cas9) system have dramatically increased the efficiency of producing GE pigs. these gene-editing systems, specifically engineered endonucleases, are based on inducing double-stranded breaks(DsBs) at a specific location, and then site-specific modifications can be introduced through one of the two DNA repair pathways: non-homologous end joining(NHEJ) or homology direct repair(HDR).Random insertions or deletions(indels) can be introduced through NHEJ and specific nucleotide sequences can be introduced through HDR, if donor DNA is provided. Use of these engineered endonucleases provides a higher success in genetic modifications, multiallelic modification of the genome, and an opportunity to introduce site-specific modifications during embryogenesis, thus bypassing the need of sCNt in GE pig production. this review will provide a historical prospective of GE pig production and examples of how the gene-editing system, led by engineered endonucleases, have improved GE pig production. Variation in female aggression in 2 three-spined stickleback populations with female throat and spine coloration

Despite growing interest in female ornament evolution, we still have a rudimentary understanding of female display traits relative to similar traits in males. Under one popular adaptive scenario, female ornaments are hypothesized to function in female-female competition and serve as badges of status, such that their expression is linked with elevated aggression in some cases. In this study, we investigated the relationship between 2 female ornaments--male-like red throat color and red spine coloration--and female aggression in 2 independently derived stream-resident populations of three-spined stickleback Gasterosteus aculeatus. Using simulated intrusions, we tested whether females with redder ornaments were generally more aggressive, and for variation in aggressive and social behaviors between the 2 populations. We found that the red intensity of the throat and spine did not predict aggression levels in either population, suggesting a limited role for both female ornaments during female-female interaction. the 2 populations exhibited different levels of aggressive behaviors, unrelated to the color patches. Our results suggest that variation in selective pressures between populations may promote interpopulation variance in aggressive behavior but not the correlation between female ornamentation and aggression, and raise the possibility that red coloration may have evolved through different mechanisms or processes in the 2 populations.

MHD three dimensional flow of viscoelastic fluid with thermal radiation and variable thermal conductivity

the objective of the present work is to model the magnetohydrodynamic(MHD) three dimensional flow of viscoelastic fluid passing a stretching surface. Heat transfer analysis is carried out in the presence of variable thermal conductivity and thermal radiation. Arising nonlinear analysis for velocity and temperature is computed. Discussion to importantly involved parameters through plots is presented. Comparison between present and previous limiting solutions is shown. Numerical values of local Nusselt number are computed and analyzed. It can be observed that the effects of viscoelastic parameter and Hartman number on the temperature profile are similar in a qualitative way. the variations in temperature are more pronounced for viscoelastic parameter K in comparison to the Hartman number M. the parameters N and ε give rise to the temperature. It is interesting to note that values of local Nusselt number are smaller for the larger values of ε.

studies on toxicity,Anti-stress and Hepato-protective Properties of Kombucha tea

Objective\ the objective of the study was to evaluate toxicity, anti_stress activity and hepato_protective properties of Kombucha tea. Method\ Kombucha tea was fed orally for 15 days using three different doses i.e. normal dose, five and ten times the dose. Rats were then sacrificed and various biochemical, and histological parameters were estimated. Anti_stress activity was evaluated either by 1) by exposing animals to cold and hypoxia and estimating the levels of malondialdehyde and reduced glutathione in plasma/ blood or 2) by subjecting the animals to restraint stress and recording faecal output. Hepato_toxicity was induced by challenging the animals to an acute dose of paracetamol (1 gm/kg) orally and determining the plasma levels of sGPt, sGOt and MDA. Results\ the effect of oral administration of different doses of K_tea to albino rats was examined and the results indicate that K_tea has no significant toxicity as revealed by various biochemical and histopathological parameters. K_tea has been found to prevent lipid peroxidation and fall in reduced glutathione level when rats were exposed to cold and hypoxia in simulated chamber. Further, K_tea has also been found to decrease the Wrap_restraint faecal pellet output in rats. K_tea has also been found to decrease paracetamol induced hepatotoxicity significantly. Conclusion\ the study shows that K_tea has anti_stress and hepato_protective activities.

Effects of local compositional and structural disorder on vacancy formation in entropy-stabilized oxides from first-principles

Entropic stabilization has evolved into a strategy to create new oxide materials and realize novel functional properties engineered through the alloy *** an atomistic understanding of these properties to enable their design,however,has been challenging due to the local compositional and structural disorder that underlies their fundamental structure-property ***,we combine high-throughput atomistic calculations and linear regression algorithms to investigate the role of local configurational and structural disorder on the thermodynamics of vacancy formation in (MgCoNiCuZn)O-based entropy-stabilized oxides (EsOs) and their influence on the electrical *** find that the cation-vacancy formation energies decrease with increasing local tensile strain caused by the deviation of the bond lengths in EsOs from the equilibrium bond length in the binary *** oxygen-vacancy formation strongly depends on structural distortions associated with the local configuration of chemical *** in EsOs exhibit deep thermodynamic transition levels that inhibit electrical *** applying the charge-neutrality condition,we determine that the equilibrium concentrations of both oxygen and cation vacancies increase with increasing Cu mole *** results demonstrate that tuning the local chemistry and associated structural distortions by varying alloy composition acts an engineering principle that enables controlled defect formation in multi-component alloys.

Cyclic stress-controlled tests on offshore clay

One of the main concerns in cyclic behavior of soft clay is gradual degradation with the progression of loading cycle.A series of cyclic constant-volume direct simple shear(CDss) loading tests was performed on Malaysia offshore clay to study its undrained *** testing program consists of stresscontrolled tests with cyclic shear ratio ranging from 0.34 to 0.83 at different overconsolidation ratios(OCRs).For a given cyclic stress ratio in stress-controlled tests,the accumulated cyclic strain and pore water pressure increase with elevated number of *** heavily overconsolidated clay specimens,the negative cyclic pore water pressure is generated followed by positive cyclic pore water pressure as cyclic tests *** post-cyclic strength of offshore clay specimens is reduced by undrained cyclic stresscontrolled loading.

this paper provides an analytical approach to determine the optimum pitch by utilizing a thermal resistance network, under the assumption of constant luminous efficiency. this work allows an LED array design which is mounted on a printed circuit board （PCB） attached with a heat sink subject to the natural convection cooling. Being validated by finite element （FE） models, the current approach can be shown as an effective method for the determination of optimal component spacing in an LED array assembly for ssL.

Effect of additional element and heat treating temperature on micro-structure and mechanical behavior of Ag alloy thin film

For Ag alloy film used for the storage media, it is required to have heat-resistance, anti-constant temperature and anti-constant humidity characteristics, corrosion resistance, while high reflectivity over Al is maintained. An Ag alloy thin film (additive element Pd, Cu, P) was created on glass substrates, and various heat treatment was conducted. then, fine structure was observed on this thin film using AFM, and fine structure evaluation of the inside was carried out by the in-plane diffractometry and X-ray diffractometry, and in addition, residual stress analysis was carried out. these results were compared and were examined, and fine structure and physical property in a metallic thin film were evaluated, and usefulness of evaluation method was verified.
