Anthropogenic noise interacts with the predation risk assessm.nt in a free-ranging bird

Anthropogenic noise can affect a num.er of behavioral,physiological,and ecological aspects of anim.ls from.m.jor taxonom.c groups,raising serious conservation *** exam.le,noise pollution im.acts com.unicative behavior and perception of signals,m.vem.nts and distribution,as well as predator–prey interactions,such as hunting success or predator detection and predation risk *** have carried out an experim.ntal playback study,in which we investigated whether exposure to anthropogenic noise(sound of a tractor)distracts free-ranging barn swallows Hirundo rustica from.paying attention to an approaching hum.n“predator”(the“cognitive distraction”hypothesis),or whether noise leads to increased responsiveness to this“predator”(the“increased threat”hypothesis).The subjects were m.le barn swallows attending their breeding territories during the tim. when the fem.les were *** found that barn swallow m.les initiated fight at signifcantly greater distances to the approaching hum.n“predator”in the noise treatm.nt than during the quiet control *** results suggest that anthropogenic noise causes increased vigilance and reactivity rather than a distraction,enabling birds to avoid the“predator”m.re *** further discuss the m.chanism.behind the increased alertness in response to noise and contrast the“increased threat”m.chanism.usually tested in previous studies,with an alternative“cognitive sensitization”m.chanism.

Objective: To evaluate cytokine levels (IL-1β,TNF-α,IL-6, IL-8), soluble intercellular adhesion m.lecule-1 (sICAm.1)-and num.er of m.crophages in peritoneal fluid (PF)of wom.n with no m.nim.l endom.triosis and associated (or not) infertility in order to discrim.nate between infertility and/or endom.triosis. Study design: Cytokines and sICAm.1 were m.asured by using quantitative enzym.-linked im.unosorbent assay (ELISA) while the m.crophages were identified by m.y-Grunwald-Giem.a and non-specific esterase staining and presented as m.dians. The m.asurem.nts were perform.d in 78 wom.n belonging to four selected subgroups according to their endom.triosis and/or infertility status. Statistical analysis was perform.d using Kruskal-Wallis non-param.tric ANOVA test. Additionally, discrim.nant function analyses were perform.d. Results: We have found the m.st elevated m.crophage num.ers in the groups of wom.n with endom.triosis. IL-1βdid not present any statistically significant values differentiating the analysed subgroups. IL-6 (110.0 pg/m.) and TNF-αexhibited the highest concentrations (statistically significant) in a group of fertile wom.n with endom.triosis. IL-8 clearly differentiated between the subgroups with infertility and sICAm.1 was statistically significantly elevated in the subgroups of infertile wom.n. In the forward discrim.nant analysis, when subdividing the studied population according to its infertility status (we considered m.crophages, IL-8 and IL-6 in order of probability values), we have found striking probability value of 92%for the correct classification into an infertile population. Conclusion: Out of the range of the analysed factors we have found only the sICAm.1 to be singled out between the standard discrim.nant analysis and the forward one. However, this im.ortant flagging m.lecule m.ght be of considerable value for discrim.nation between different types of pathology at the level of im.une effector function. Facile synthesis of sam.rium.and cerium.doped double perovskite cobaltite with enhanced dielectric response

Drought events influence nutrient canopy exchanges and green leaf partitioning during senescence in a deciduous forest

The increase in the frequency and intensity of drought events expected in the com.ng decades in Western Europe m.y disturb forest biogeochem.cal cycles and create nutrient deficiencies in *** possible origin of nutrient deficiency is the disturbance of the partitioning of the green leaf pool during the leaf senescence period between resorption,foliar leaching and senesced ***,the effects of drought events on this partitioning and the consequences for the m.intenance of tree nutrition are poorly *** experim.nt in a beech forest in m.use(France)was conducted to assess the effect of drought events on nutrient canopy exchanges and on the partitioning of the green leaf pool during the leaf senescence *** aim.was to identify potential nutritional consequences of droughts for *** nutrient dynam.cs,including resorption,chem.stry of green and senesced leaves,foliar absorption and leaching in m.ture beech stands from.2012 to 2019 allowed us to com.are the nutrient exchanges for three nondry and three dry years(i.e.,with an intense drought event during the growing season).During dry years,we observed a decrease by alm.st a third of the potassium.K)partitioning to resorption(*** efficiency),thus reducing the K reserve in trees for the next growing *** result suggests that with the increased drought frequency and intensity expected for the com.ng decades,there will be a risk of potassium.deficiency in trees,as already observed in a rainfall exclusion experim.nt on the sam. study *** foliar leaching and higher parititioning to the senesced leaves for K and phosphorus(P)were also *** addition,a slight increase in nitrogen(N)resorption efficiency occurred during dry years which is m.re likely to im.rove tree *** calcium.Ca)negative resorption decreased,with no apparent consequence in our study *** results show that nutrient exchanges in the canopy and the partitioning of the green leaf

We explore the gapped graphene structure in the two-dim.nsional plane in the presence of the Rosen-m.rse potential and an external uniform.m.gnetic *** order to describe the corresponding structure,we consider the propagation of electrons in graphene as relativistic ferm.on quasi-particles,and analyze it by the wave functions of two-com.onent spinors with pseudo-spin sym.etry using the Dirac ***,to solve and analyze the Dirac equation,we obtain the eigenvalues and eigenvectors using the Legendre differential *** that,we obtain the bounded states of energy depending on the coefficients of Rosen-m.rse and m.gnetic potentials in term. of quantum.num.ers of principal n and spin-orbit ***,the values of the energy spectrum.for the ground state and the first excited state are calculated,and the wave functions and the corresponding probabilities are plotted in term. of coordinates *** what follows,we explore the band structure of gapped graphene by the m.dified dispersion relation and write it in term. of the two-dim.nsional wave vectors K_(x) and K_(y).Finally,the energy bands are plotted in term. of the wave vectors K_(x) and K_(y) with and without the m.gnetic term.
