The 3D printing process of fused deposition modelling is an attractive fabrication approach to create tissue-engineered bone substitutes to regenerate large mandibular bone defects,but often lacks desired surface porosity for enhanced protein adsorption and cell ***-based printing leads to the spontaneous formation of micropores on the scaffold’s surface upon solvent removal,without the need for further post *** aim is to create and characterize porous scaffolds using a new formulation composed of mechanically stable poly(lactic-co-glycol acid)and osteoconductiveβ-tricalcium phosphate with and without the addition of elastic thermoplastic polyurethane prepared by solvent-based 3D-printing ***-scale regenerative scaffolds can be 3D-printed with adequate fidelity and show porosity at multiple levels analysed via micro-computer tomography,scanning electron microscopy and N_(2) *** mechanical properties compared to a commercially available calcium phosphate ink are demonstrated in compression and screw pull out *** assessments including cell activity assay and live-dead staining prove the scaffold’s *** properties are demonstrated by performing an osteogenic differentiation assay with primary human bone marrow mesenchymal stromal *** propose a versatile fabrication process to create porous 3D-printed scaffolds with adequate mechanical stability and osteoconductivity,both important characteristics for segmental mandibular bone reconstruction.

Biosecurity in a Biodiversity Hotspot: An Updated Checklist of the Thysanoptera Fauna of New Caledonia

The insect order Thysanoptera is used as an indicator of the vulnerability to foreign insect invasions of New Caledonian ecosystems—both the unique natural systems, and the agricultural and horticultural systems on which the economy is dependent. A total of 103 species in 67 genera of Thysanoptera are here listed from New Caledonia, in contrast to the 68 species in 44 genera that were recorded 23 years ago. Of the 103 species, 22 are not known from anywhere else in the world. Thus, up to 80% of these insect species have arrived in New Caledonia from other countries, with a very high proportion likely to have been introduced through modern trading patterns, despite vigorous efforts by quarantine services.

Phenotypic Resistance of Bacteria Isolated from Urinary Tract Infections at the Protestant Hospital of Ngaoundere (Cameroon)

Aims and objectives: The frequent and unprescribed use of antibiotics has led to the development of resistance by microorganisms responsible for urinary tract infection (UTI). In order to facilitate the follow-up of this microbial resistance, the aim of this study was to determine the bacteria resistant phenotypes. Method: To achieve the following objectives, this study was conducted from June to August 2023. The isolation and identification were performed by standard methods why susceptibility testing was done by Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion technique according to CLSI guidelines. Double-disk synergy test was applied to determine the presence of extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) produced by bacteria. The Imipenem EDTA Combined Disc Test (CDT) for Metallo beta lactamase (MBL) screening, the D-zone test to detect macrolides, lincosamides and streptogramins type B (MLSB) and Meticillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRS A) which was assessed using a Cefoxitin (30 µg) disc. Results: A total of 40 bacteria were identified with a prevalence of 37.03%. Overall, E. coli was the predominant isolate 14 (35%), followed by Staphylococcus aureus 10 (25%) and Klesbsiella pneumonia 4 (10%). Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella arinosa and Enterobacter were the most sensible (100%) bacteria against ciprofloxin, ceftriaxone and cefixime. Almost all bacteria were resistant to Amoxicillin/clavulanic acid (>50%). The isolates were in the majority resistant to imipenem. ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae represented 25.92%, with a higher rate among E. coli. No MBL production was found among the isolates while 38.46% represented cMLSB, 15.38% represented iMLSB, 23.07% represented MSB and 23.07% represented MRSA. Conclusion: Clinical strains of UTI from Protestant Hospital of Ngaoundere exhibiting ESBL, cMLSB, iMLSB, MSB and MRSA. The regular updating of antibiotic resistance statistics of isolated strains allows for a better adaptation of probabilistic antibiotic therapy.

Young and old forest in the boreal:critical stages of ecosystem dynamics and management under global change

The circumboreal forest encompasses diverse landscape structures, dynamics and forest age distributions determined by their physical setting, and historical and current disturbance regimes. However, due to intensifying forest utilisation, and in certain areas due to increasing natural disturbances, boreal forest age-class structures have changed rapidly, so that the proportion of old forest has substantially declined, while that of young post-harvest and post-natural-disturbance forest proportions have increased. In the future, with a warming climate in certain boreal regions, this trend may further be enhanced due to an increase in natural disturbances and large-scale use of forest biomass to replace fossil-based fuels and *** major drivers of change of forest age class distributions and structures include the use of clearcut shortrotation harvesting, more frequent and severe natural disturbances due to climate warming in certain regions. The decline in old forest area, and increase in managed young forest lacking natural post-disturbance structural legacies,represent a major transformation in the ecological conditions of the boreal forest beyond historical limits of *** may introduce a threat to biodiversity, ecosystem resilience and long-term adaptive capacity of the forest *** safeguard boreal forest biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, and to maintain the multiple services provided to societies by this forest biome, it is pivotal to maintain an adequate share and the ecological qualities of young postdisturbance stages, along with mature forest stages with old-growth characteristics. This requires management for natural post-disturbance legacy structures, and innovative use of diverse uneven-aged and continuous cover management approaches to maintain critical late-successional forest structures in landscapes.

Compost Effect on Diuron Retention and Transport in Structured Vineyard Soils

Diuron is frequently detected in surface- and groundwater under the vineyards, where organic amendments are often used, in Burgundy of France. Undisturbed column experiments were conducted to study the influence of three composted organic amendments on diuron leaching through columns of two vineyard soils from Vosne-Roman′ee(VR, calcareous Cambisol) and Beaujolais(Bj, sandy Leptosol), France. Bromide(used as non-reactive tracer) and diuron breakthrough curves(BTCs) were analyzed using convectivedispersive equation(CDE), two-region(mobile-immobile, MIM) and two-site models. No influence of the composts was observed on the bromide recovery rates. The CDE model described well the bromide BTCs for all columns of the Bj soil and seven of the VR soil, suggesting a homogeneous water flow. However, for five VR soil columns, the MIM model fitted better, suggesting a partition of the water flow(15%–50% of matrix flow). The texture, the coarse material content and the tillage of the VR soil could explain this heterogeneity. However, for all columns, diuron leaching was greater through the Bj soil(46%–68%) than the VR soil(28%–39%). The compost addition resulted in a contrasting effect on diuron leaching: no difference or a decrease was observed for the VR soil, probably due to an increase of adsorption sites, whereas no difference or an increase was observed for the Bj soil possibly because of interactions and/or competition of diuron with the compost water-extractable organic matter which could facilitate its transport. All the diuron BTCs were best described using the two-site model, suggesting a large proportion of time-dependent sorption sites(30%–50%). The soil type and the nature of the amendments had contrasting influences on diuron transport. Composts with a high water-soluble fraction must be avoided in sandy soils to reduce the risk of groundwater contamination.

Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer worldwide, accounting for 6.8% of new cancer cases and 8.1% of cancer-related deaths. About 85% of these deaths occurred in low- and middle-income countries. The aim of this study was to assess the frequency and distribution of the human papillomavirus (HPV) genotypes in women showing cytological abnormalities of the cervix at the Sourô SANOU University Hospital (CHUSS) in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso. This is a descriptive study of women recruited at the CHUSS. The cervico-uterine smear examination was carried out at the CHUSS Anatomy and Pathology Department for cervical cancer screening. The data were collected from women with atypical cells on their cervico-uterine smear. Cervicovaginal samples were taken from consenting women and HPV genotyping was performed using the HPV Direct FLOW CHIP kit at CERBA. We obtained approval from the ethics committee. The data were analyzed using the SPSS 26 software. The results of the study showed that 67.79% of the participants were aged between 50 and 65, a group that is particularly vulnerable to persistent infection with high-risk oncogenic HPV genotypes. Of the women screened, 40.7% were HPV positive and 29.2% had multiple infections. The most common genotypes were HPV 35, followed by HPV 18, 52, 58 and 66. These data highlight the need for increased surveillance and targeted prevention strategies among this female population.
