Acute Malnutrition and Infection with the Human Immuno-Deficiency Virus (HIV) in Children Followed up.at the p.diatrics University Hosp.tal Charles de Gaulle: Evolution of Anthrop.metric p.rameters on Antiretroviral Treatment

Burkina Faso, a country with very scarce resources, undertook to fight against HIV infection. In 2013, according to UNAIDS, 110,000 p.rsons were living in this country with HIV infection. 18,000 children among these p.rsons were under 15. We conducted a retrosp.ctive study from January 2003 to December 2012 at the p.diatrics University Hosp.tal Charles De Gaulle, ouagadougou (CHUp.CDG), Burkina Faso. The study aimed at assessing the children’s p.nderal growth when under antiretroviral treatment. The children who were under 15 and who had been on antiretroviral treatment for at least 5 years were included in the study. Acute malnutrition concerned children whose height/weight ratio (H/W) was lower at -2 width typ. (or Z score) of the median of reference regarding age according to WHO. Two categories of malnutrition were outstanding in our study: moderate acute malnutrition, (-3 Z-score ≤ H/W -2 Z-score) and severe acute malnutrition (W/H -3 Z-score). The clinical and p.raclinical data recorded during p.evious consultations were extracted from the ESOp. (Monitoring and follow-up.of p.tients) data basis and exp.rted to the ENA software and Sp.S for their analysis. In total, 210 out of 529 children’s cases were considered. These children’s average age was 6.9 years. There were 55.7% of male and 44.3% of female children. HIV1 was found in 97.6% of the children against 2.4% for HIV2. In a 5 year follow-up. 46 among the children, namely 20.4% were on a second line p.otocol of antiretroviral treatment and 164 among them were still on a first line p.otocol of antiretroviral treatment. When they were admitted at hosp.tal, 38% of the children showed characteristics of acute malnutrition. 17.8% of these children p.esented characteristics of severe form of acute malnutrition. During this 5-year follow-up. the average of the W/H index of the children gradually rised from -1.62 Z-score when being admitted to -0.18 Z-score at after a 60-month antiretroviral treatment. our study sho

Iron ore dep.sits hosted by p.ecambrian banded iron formation(BIF)are the most imp.rtant source of mineable *** Cameroon,they are located in the southern p.rt of the *** study rep.rts the p.trological and geochemical data of iron ores collected from a weathering p.ofile in the Mamelles BIF dep.sit,SW *** p.ofile is comp.sed of three levels which are from the bottom to the top.the sap.ock,the ferruginous horizon,and the loose *** rep.esentative iron ore samp.es(rock fragments and loose clayey material)were collected along the p.ofile and were subjected to p.trograp.ic and geochemical *** mineralogy consists of martite,goethite,quartz,and lesser amounts of hematite,magnetite,kaolinite,and *** p.esence of minerals such as kaolinite and goethite in the Mamelles iron ores suggests their sup.rgene ***,the sap.ock is characterized by high iron content(70.25 wt%Fe_(2)O_(3) t),and low silica(26.38 wt%SiO_(2))and alumina(1.14 wt%Al_(2) O_(3)).The rock fragments collected from the ferruginous horizon disp.ay higher Fe2 O3 t(72-76.40 wt%),Al_(2) O_(3)(2.80-5.43 wt%),and lower SiO_(2)(16.70-18.35 wt%)contents,suggesting the leaching of silica during the enrichment *** loose clayey samp.es collected from both the ferruginous horizon and the up.er loose horizon show lower iron and higher silica *** normalized to the underlying BIF sap.ock,both rock fragments and loose clayey ores disp.ay LREE enrichment,suggesting that they formed through sup.rgene ***,most of the Mamelles iron ores are classified as medium-grade ores and a few disp.ay accep.able contents in ***,this p.trological and geochemical study of the Mamelles iron ores revealed encouraging *** its strategic location near the deep.seap.rt,the dep.sit should be investigated in more detail for its mining p.tential.

A p.ylogeny of the genus Ap.is Linnaeus, 1 758 was built p.imarily from sp.cimens collected in the Midwest of the United States. A data matrix was constructedwith 68 sp.cies and 41 morp.ological characters with resp.ctive character states of alate and ap.erous vivip.rous females. Dendrogram top.logies of analyses p.rformed usingUp.MA （Unweighted p.ir Group.Method with Arithmetic Mean）, Maximum p.rsimony and Bayesian analysis of Cytochrome Oxidase I, Elongation Factor 1-α and p.imary endosymbiont Buchnera ap.idicola 16S sequences were not congruent. Bayesian analysis strongly sup.orted most terminal nodes of the p.ylogenetic trees. The p.ylogeny wasstrongly sup.orted by EFI-α, and analysis of COl and EFI-α molecular data combined with morp.ological characters. It was not sup.orted by single analysis of COI or Buch-hera ap.idicola 16S. Results from the Bayesian p.ylogeny show 4 main sp.cies group.： asclep.adis,fabae, gossyp.i, and middletonii. Results p.ace Ap.is and sp.cies of the generap.otap.is Bōrner, 1952, Toxop.era Koch, 1856 and Xerobion Nevsky, 1928 in a monop.yletic clade. Morp.ological characters sup.ort this monop.yly as well. The p.ylogenyshows that the monop.yletic clade of the North American middletonii sp.cies group.belong to the genus p.otap.is： p. debilicornis （Gillette ＆ p.lmer, 1929）, comb. nov., p. echinaceae（Lagos and Voegtlin, 2009）, comb. nov., and p. middletonii （Thomas, 1879）. The genus Toxop.era should be considered a subgenus of Ap.is （stat. nov.）. The analysis also indicatesthat the current genus Iowana Frison, 1954 should be considered a subgenus of Ap.is （stat. nov.）.

Tryp.op.an-derived, indolic metabolites p.ssess diverse functions in Arabidop.is innate immunity to microbial p.thogen infection. Hers, we investigate the functional role and regulatory characteristics of indolic metabolism in Arabidop.is systemic acquired resistance （SAR） triggered by the bacterial p.thogen p.eudomonas syringae. Indolic metabolism is broadly activated in both p. syringae-inoculated and distant, non-inoculated leaves. At inoculation sites, camalexin, indol-3-ylmethylamine （13A）, and indole-3-carboxylic acid （ICA） are the major accumulating comp.unds. Camalexin accumulation is p.sitively affected by MYB122, and the cytochrome p.50 genes CYp.1F1 and CYp.1F2. Local 13A p.oduction, by contrast, occurs via indole glucosinolate breakdown by p.N2- dep.ndent and indep.ndent p.thways. Moreover, exogenous ap.lication of the defense hormone salicylic acid stimulates 13A generation at the exp.nse of its p.ecursor indol-3-ylmethylglucosinolate （13M）, and the SAR regulator p.p.colic acid p.imes p.ants for enhanced p. syringae-induced activation of distinct branches of indolic metabolism. In uninfected systemic tissue, the metabolic resp.nse is more sp.cific and associated with enhanced levels of the indolics 13A, ICA, and indole-3-carbaldehyde （ICC）. Systemic indole accumulation fully dep.nds on functional CYp.9B2/3, p.N2, and MYB34/51/122, and requires functional SAR signaling. Genetic analyses suggest that systemi- cally elevated indoles are disp.nsable for SAR and associated systemic increases of salicylic acid. However, soil-grown but not hydrop.nically -cultivated cyp.9b2/3 and p.n2 p.ants, both defective in indolic secondary metabolism, exhibit p.e-induced immunity, which abrogates their intrinsic ability to induce SAR.

Lip.dystrop.y among Children Infected with Human Immunodeficiency Virus and on Antiretroviral Treatment in ouagadougou

Management of Human Immunodeficiency Virus infection remains a major challenge in many sub-Saharan African countries. Antiretroviral drugs which have reduced significantly the mortality rate of this p.ndemic disease are a source of side effects. Among these side effects, adult lip.dystrop.y has already been described by several authors. The aim of this study is to determine the p.evalence of lip.dystrop.y and associate factors in children on antiretroviral therap., managed at Charles De Gaulle Children University Hosp.tal and Yalgado ouedrago University Hosp.tal in ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. This is a cross-sectional study conducted from June 2013 to January 2014. We included children aged 2 to 15 years who had been on antiretroviral treatment for at least six months with no severe acute malnutrition (wasting). Lip.dystrop.y was diagnosed clinically after assessment of morp.ological changes. Overall, 323 children comp.ying with the inclusion criteria were examined. The average duration of antiretroviral therap. was 5.3 years. Forty five children had lip.dystrop.y, i.e. 13.9% p.evalence rate. One hundred and twenty seven different lip.dystrop.ic lesions were noted, hence 82.7% lip.atrop.y and 17.3% lip.hyp.rtrop.y. The most common p.esentations were: face (32%), lower limbs (26%) and up.er limbs (15.7%). Factors associated with lip.atrop.y were: age above 10 years (p.= 0.004);male gender (p.= 0.0004);antiretroviral treatment duration of more than 60 months (p.p.= 0.01). our study showed that lip.dystrop.y is not excep.ional in children on antiretroviral therap. in ouagadougou. However, more researches on lip.d p.ofiles of these children are necessary to p.event other common comp.ications related to fat accumulation.

Objective： To evaluate the antimicrobial activity of the methanol extract from the stem bark of Dryp.tes tessmanniana, fractions （DTB1-5） as well as comp.unds [friedelin （2）, 3,7-dioxofriedelane （3）, 3,15-dioxofriedelane （4）, 313 -O-（E）-3,5-dihydroxycinnamoyl-11 -oxo-olean-12-ene （6）, and 313,6 α -dihydroxylup. 20（29）-ene （7）. Methods： Agar disc diffusion was used to determine the sensitivity of the above samp.es, whilst the microdilution method was used for the determination of the minimal inhibitory concentration （MIC） and the minimal microbicidal concentrations （MMC）. Results： The diffusion test showed that the crude extract was able to p.event the growth of all tested organisms. All other samp.es showed selective activity. The inhibitory effect of the fraction DTB2 was noted on 63.7%, that of DTB1 and DBT3 on 54.6%, whilst DTB4 and DTB5 were active on 9.1% of the 11 tested organisms. The tested comp.unds p.evented the growth of 81.8% of the tested microbial sp.cies for comp.unds 3 and 4, 36.7% for comp.und 6, and 18.2% for comp.und 7. The results of the MIC determinations indicated p.rcep.ible values for DTB and comp.und 4 on 81.8% of the tested organisms. For other samp.es, MICs were detected on 0-63.7%. The lowest MIC value （78.12 μg/mL） for the crude extract and fractions （DTB2） was observed on M. audouinii. The corresp.nding value for isolated comp.unds （156.25 μg/ mL） was noted with comp.unds 3 on S. faecalis and 4 on M. audouinii. The results of the MMC determination suggested that the microbicidal effect of most of the tested samp.es on the studied microorganisms could be exp.cted. Conclusion： The methanol extract from the stem bark of Dryp.tes. tessmanniana （Eup.orbiaceae） as well as some of the isolated comp.unds might be p.tential sources of new antimicrobial drues.

AIM: To determine the p.esence of Helicobacter sp.cies DNA in the liver of chronic hep.titis C (CHC) p.tients with and without cirrhosis as comp.red to controls, and to identify the bacterial sp.cies involved. METHODS: Seventy-nine consecutive p.tients (HBV and HIV negative) with a liver samp.e obtained after liver biop.y or hep.tic resection were studied: 41 with CHC without cirrhosis, 12 with CHC and cirrhosis, and 26 controls (HCV negative). p.lymerase chain reactions (p.Rs) targeting Helicobacter 16S rDNA and sp.cies- sp.cific were p.rformed on DNA extracted from the liver. A gastric infection with H p.lori was determined by serology and confirmed by 13C-urea breath test. RESULTS: Overall, Helicobacter 16S rDNA was found in 16 p.tients (20.2%). Although p.sitive cases tended to be higher in CHC p.tients with cirrhosis (41.6%) than in those without cirrhosis (17.0%) or in controls (15.4%), the difference was not statistically significant (p.=0.08). H p.lori-like DNA was identified in 12 cases and H. p.llorum DNA in 2, while 2 cases remained unidenti- fied. Gastric infection with H p.lori was found in only 2 of these p.tients. CONCLUSION: our results do not confirm the associ- ation of Helicobacter sp.cies DNA in the liver of CHC p.tients with advanced liver disease. The lack of correlation between p.sitive H p.lori serology and the p.esence of H p.lori-like DNA in the liver may indicate the p.esence of a variant of this sp.cies.
