Cardiopulmonary complications are major drivers of mortality caused by the SARS-CoV-2 ***-18,an inflammasomeinduced cytokine,has emerged as a novel mediator of cardiopulmonary pathologies but its regulation via SARS-CoV-2 signaling remains *** on a screening panel,IL-18 was identified amongst 19 cytokines to stratify mortality and hospitalization burden in patients hospitalized with *** clinical data,administration of SARS-CoV-2 Spike 1(S1)glycoprotein or receptor-binding domain(RBD)proteins into human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(hACE2)transgenic mice induced cardiac fibrosis and dysfunction associated with higher NF-κB phosphorylation(pNF-κB)and cardiopulmonary-derived IL-18 and NLRP3 ***-18 inhibition via IL-18BP resulted in decreased cardiac pNF-κB and improved cardiac fibrosis and dysfunction in S1-or RBD-exposed hACE2 *** in vivo and in vitro work,both S1 and RBD proteins induced NLRP3 inflammasome and IL-18 expression by inhibiting mitophagy and increasing mitochondrial reactive oxygenation *** mitophagy prevented Spike protein-mediated IL-18 ***,IL-18 inhibition reduced Spike protein-mediated pNF-κB and EC ***,the link between reduced mitophagy and inflammasome activation represents a novel mechanism during COVID-19 pathogenesis and suggests IL-18 and mitophagy as potential therapeutic targets.

Chemical fractionation of toxic metals (As, Cd and Zn) along the soil profile at waste dumpsites in military formations for dry and wet seasons using Tessier’s sequential extraction procedure was determined using AAS techniques. The order of yield across the fractions was mainly: exchangeable (F1) 2) 3) 4) 5). Statistical analysis (p m dumpsites A and B of each sampling station. However, the variation between the dumpsites and control was significant (p > 0.05) in most stations. The pollution index was assessed using the degree of contamination (Cd), the modified degree of contamination (mCd), potential ecological risk and mobility factor. The Cd indicated that NFB top soil was considerably contaminated (16.3) while the soils (20 - 40 and 40 - 80 cm) recorded moderate (13.6) and low (5.60) contaminations respectively. Top soil of NSm was moderately contaminated while the contamination status of NPS, NFB and SFB waste dump soils across the depths was “low”. The mCd index for NFB dump soil was “moderate” (2.33) and subsoils (20 - 40 and 40 - 80 cm) were “low” (1.94) and “Nil to very low” (0.800) respectively. The mCd for the other three dumpsites was “Nil to very low” except the top soil of NSm which was “low”. The order of the toxic metals mobility in the studied soils using the mobility factor (mf) for dry and wet seasons was Cd > As > Zn and Zn > Cd > As respectively.

One of the most common and widespread bloom-forming cyanobacteria associated with toxin production is microcystis aeruginosa (Kutzing) Lemmerman. While normally associated with fresh water environments, this toxigenic species has been observed at bloom concentrations in a number of major estuaries worldwide. This study examined the effect of salinity on growth and toxin production by m. aeruginosa strain PCC 7806 under controlled laboratory conditions. Salt concentrations above 12.6 ppt resulted in total cessation of growth. Toxin production was similarly affected, with cultures grown in salt concentrations of 4.6 ppt and above yielding less toxin than the control after 20 days of culture. Toxin concentrations after 20 days of culture were 40% of the control at 4.6 ppt. The relative proportion of extracellular to intracellular toxin increased over time in cultures with salt concentrations greater than 4.6 ppt. Extracellular toxins persisted in the media long after the cessation of growth. The results suggest that the influence of m. aeruginosa and/or its toxins can extend well out into estuarine environments under the influence of significant freshwater inputs.

Over 11% of all pregnancies in the US result in preterm birth, greatly contributing to perinatal morbidity and mortality （Goldenberg and Rouse, 1998）. Preterm birth etiologies remain largely unknown, and effective prevention methods have yet to be developed. The use of biofluid （e.g., serum or urine） for the analysis of the naturally occurring peptidome （mW 〈 4000） as a source of biomarkers has been reported for different diseases （Villanueva et al., 2006; Ling et al., 2010a, 2010b, 2010c, 2011）. mass spectrometry-based profiling of naturally occurring peptides can provide an extensive in- ventory of serum peptides derived from either high-abundant endogenous circulating proteins or cell and tissue proteins （Liotta and Petricoin, 2006）.

The work of “monitoring and Evaluation of Air Pollution” the main aim of this work is to measure the concentrations of gases which include CO2, CO, NOx, SOx and thermal radiation and carry out an analysis of the measured data. This experiment was scheduled to take place at Egbema flow station which is managed by NPDC (Nigerian Petroleum Development Commission) Shell location 2 in Obiakpu, Ohaji Imo state. The bad effects of these pollutant gases on the community can include cause of diseases to plants and animals, causes of physical ailments in the respiratory tract of humans, and death and degradation of the surrounding environment. The parameters measured during this exercise include the distance from the flow station, latitude and longitude of the distance measured on the earth’s surface, time for the experiment and the concentration of pollutant gases. The instrument used includes CO meter, CO2 meter, SOx and NOx meters, and thermal radiation meter. Purpose Children require 9-11 h sleep to ensure adequate growth and development by optimizing the efficiency of a number of biological systems,including the cardiovascular *** study aim was to determine whether short sleep duration(male)aged 9-11 *** arterial stiffness was measured using carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity(cfPWV),sleep duration,time spent sedentary,and moderate-vigorous physical activity were measured using wrist actigraphy,and dietary patterns using a food frequency ***-tions between short sleep duration and cfPWV were examined using mixed effects *** There was a positive[unadjusted]association between short sleep duration and cfPWV(β=0.245,95%CI 0.093-0.396).This association persisted following adjustment for demographic factors and was strengthened following adjustment for lifestyle behaviors(β=0.331,95%CI 0.109-0.553).Conclusions Short sleepers(meaningful elevated aortic arterial stiffness in comparison to those sleeping the recommended daily 9-11 *** duration may be important for cardiovascular health independent of other lifestyle behaviors.
