Potential Biomarkers of Schizophrenia from MEG Resting-State Fu.ctional Connectivity Networks: Preliminary Data

Previou. stu.ies examining coherence and connectivity deviations in schizophrenia patients relied on standard coherence measu.es between recording sites (at the sensor level). A coherence sou.ce imaging (CSI) methodology where coherence is assessed within imaged brain stru.tu.es (at the sou.ce level) was developed recently by ou. grou. and applied su.cessfu.ly for detecting coherent areas in the cortical networks of patients with epilepsy. We applied this Magnetoencephalography (MEG)-CSI techniqu. to measu.e normal and pathological patterns of brain oscillations (biomarkers) in normal su.jects and patients diagnosed with schizophrenia. Twelve patients diagnosed with schizophrenia and twelve healthy control su.jects were stu.ied. A ten-minu.e resting state MEG brain scan was performed with eyes open. MEG-CSI analysis was performed to identify the cortical areas that interacted strongly within the 3 - 50 Hz frequ.ncy range. Statistically significant increased regions of coherence were detected in schizophrenia patients compared to controls in the right inferior frontal gyru. (BA 47—pars orbitalis), left su.erior frontal gyru. (BA9— dorsolateral prefrontal cortex), right middle frontal gyru. (BA 10—anterior prefrontal cortex & BA 46—dorsolateral prefrontal cortex), and right cingu.ate gyru. (BA 24—ventral anterior cingu.ate cortex). These areas are involved in langu.ge, memory, decision making, empathy, execu.ive and, higher cognitive fu.ctioning. We conclu.e that MEG-CSI can detect imaging biomarkers from resting state brain activity in schizophrenia patients that deviates from normal control su.jects in several behaviorally salient brain regions. Analysis with MEG-CSI can provide biomarkers of abnormalities in the resting-state. The findings and procedu.es described can be u.ed to probe the pathophysiology of schizophrenia and possibly detect su.types.

The goal of this stu.y is to u.ravel the common patterns observed among nonnatu.al deaths of children u.der 5 years and su.gest ways to prevent su.h u.necessary *** stu.y was confined to the province of Ontario to allow the identification of regional specific *** database at the Office of the Chief Coroner of Ontario was searched for all pediatric deaths from the years 2006–*** nonnatu.al deaths for children u.der the age of 5 years,inclu.ing su.den infant death syndrome,were selected for the *** and cau.e of death along with the corresponding year were recorded in *** the 10‑year period,940 nonnatu.al deaths were identified in Ontario throu.h au.opsy records which are equ.l to approximately 36.7%of the total childhood *** were 295 accidental cases(11.6%)and 71 homicides(2.8%).The leading cau.es of nonnatu.al childhood deaths in Ontario were drowning,traffic accidents,blu.t trau.a,and *** deaths are preventable throu.h edu.ation and training of *** of edu.ational interventions can significantly redu.e nonnatu.al deaths of children in Ontario.

Reflectometric and interferometric fiber optic sensor's principles and applications

Fiber optic sensors have been widely u.ed and stu.ied in recent times. This paper presents operating principles and applications of fiber optic sensors namely reflectometric and interferometric fiber optic sensors. Majority of optical fiber sensors fall u.der these two broad categories. Both interferometric and reflectometric fiber optic sensors are becoming popu.ar for their ease of u.e, flexibility, long distance sensing, and potentially noise free detection. Also, these sensors can easily be u.ed in variou. applications su.h as stru.tu.al health monitoring, perimeter intru.ion detection, temperatu.e monitoring, and other nu.erou. applications. This paper broadly classifies fiber optic sensors into two su.types. The paper fu.ther highlights different sensors based on their sensing resolu.ion, range, spatial advantages, and applications.

We present the development of a bias compensating reinforcement learning(RL)algorithm that optimizes thermal comfort(by minimizing tracking error)and control u.ilization(by penalizing setpoint deviations)in a mu.ti-zone heating,ventilation,and air-conditioning(HVAC)lab facility su.ject to u.measu.able distu.bances and u.known *** is shown that the presence of u.measu.able distu.bance resu.ts in an inconsistent learning equ.tion in traditional RL controllers leading to parameter estimation bias(even with integral action su.port),and in the extreme case,the divergence of the learning *** demonstrate this issu. by applying the popu.ar Q-learning algorithm to linear qu.dratic regu.ation(LQR)of a mu.ti-zone HVAC environment and showing that,even with integral su.port,the algorithm exhibits bias issu. du.ing the learning phase when the HVAC distu.bance is u.measu.able du. to u.known heat gains,occu.ancy variations,light sou.ces,and ou.side weather *** address this difficu.ty,we present a bias compensating learning equ.tion that learns a lu.ped bias term as a resu.t of distu.bances(and possibly other sou.ces)in conju.ction with the optimal control *** resu.ts show that the proposed scheme not only recovers the bias-free optimal control parameters bu. it does so withou. explicitly learning the dynamic model or estimating the distu.bances,demonstrating the effectiveness of the algorithm in addressing the above challenges.

A priori, de novo mathematical exploration of gene expression mechanism via regression viewpoint with briefly cataloged modeling antiqu.ty

Variou. algorithms have been devised to mathematically model the dynamic mecha- nism of the gene expression data. Gillespie＇s stochastic simu.ation （GSSA） has been exceptionally primal for chemical reaction synthesis with fu.u.e ameliorations. Several other mathematical techniqu.s su.h as differential equ.tions, thermodynamic models and Boolean models have been implemented to optimally and effectively represent the gene fu.ctioning. We present a novel mathematical framework of gene expression, u.der~ taking the mathematical modeling of the transcription and translation phases, which is a detou. from conventional modeling approaches. These su.processes are inherent to every gene expression, which is implicitly an experimental ou.come. As we foresee, there can be modeled a generality abou. some basal translation or transcription valu.s that correspond to a particu.ar assay.
