Optical coherence tomography characteristics of responses to intravitreal bevacizumab in idiopathic choroidal neovascularization

AIM： To investigate factors associated with responses to intravitreal bevacizumab （IVB） in naive idiopathic choroidal neovascularization （iCNV） by high domain optical coherence tomography （OCT）. METHODS： We retrospectively reviewed clinical data of 40 eyes of iCNV patients who received a single or multiple IVB on an as-needed basis （1.25 mg/0.05 mL）. One month after the first injection, subretinal fluid （SRF） volume was evaluated and the eyes were divided into 3 groups based on responses to IVB. Good, moderate, and poor responses were defined as 61%-99%, 30%-60%, and 〈30% resolution of SRF on OCT after IVB in iCNV, respectively. OCT findings were analyzed to find factors associated with difference in response levels. Comparisons were made using Wilcoxon＇s matched- pairs signed-rank test, the Mann-Whitney U test for means with continuous data and Fisher＇s exact test for categorical data. RESULTS： The mean number of IVB was 1.28±1.50 and mean follow up time was 3.60±1.20mo. At postoperative 1too, there were 8 （20%） eyes in good response, 20 （50%） in moderate response and 12 （30%） eyes in poor response group and at last visit there were 28 good responders （70%）, 8 （20%） moderate responders and 4 （10%） poor responders. Statistically significant difference was detected between good responders and non good responders in choroidal neovessels thickness （P=0.029）, SRF height （P=0.049） and SRF volume （P=0.031） at post treatment 1 mo. CONCLUSION： OCT is a valuable diagnostic tool. Decrease in choroidal neovessels thickness, SRF height and volume predicts favorable response of iCNV to IVB therapy.

Alkaloids are a diverse group of natural *** phytochemicals in plants provide them protection against pests,and herbivorous organisms and also control their *** of these alkaloids have a variety of biological effects,and some have even been developed into medications with different medicinal *** review aims to provide a broad overview of the numerous naturally occurring alkaloids(isolated from both terrestrial and aquatic species)along with synthetically produced alkaloid compounds having prominent antiviral *** reviews on this subject have focused on the biological actions of both natural and synthetic alkaloids,but they have not gone into comprehensive detail about their antiviral *** reviewed here several antiviral alkaloids that have been described in the literature in different investigational environments i.e.(in-vivo,in-ovo,in-vitro,and in-silico),and found that these alkaloid compounds have significant antiviral properties against several infectious *** alkaloids repressed and targeted various important stages of viral infection at non-toxic doses while some of the alkaloids reported here also exhibited comparable inhibitory activities to commercially used ***,these anti-viral effects of alkaloids point to a high degree of specificity,implying that they could serve as effective and safe antiviral medicines if further pursued in medicinal and pharmacological investigations.

Impact of temperature on yield and related traits in cotton genotypes

Cotton growth and development is influenced by various uncontrollable environmental conditions. Temperature variations in the field can be created by planting at different dates. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of planting dates and thermal temperatures（growing degree days） on yield of 4 cotton genotypes, viz., CIM-598, CIM-599, CIM-602 and Ali Akbar-703. Plants were subjected to 6 planting dates during 2013 and 2014 in a trial conducted in randomized complete block design with four replications. For boll number, boll weight and seed cotton yield, cotton genotypes exhibited significant differences, CIM-599 produced the highest seed cotton yield of 2 062 kg ha^（–1） on account of maximum boll number and boll weight. The highest seed cotton yield was recorded in planting dates from 15 th April to 1st May whereas early and delayed planting reduced the yield due to less accumulation of heat units. Regression analysis revealed that increase of one unit（15 days） from early to optimum date（15th March to 15 th April） increased yield by 93.58 kg ha^–1. Delay in planting also decreased the seed cotton yield with the same ratio. Thus it is concluded that cotton must be sown from 15 th April to 1st May to have good productivity in this kind of environment.

Possible origin of inert gases in hydrocarbon reservoir pools of the Zindapir Anticlinorium and its surroundings in the Middle Indus Basin, Pakistan

The natural gas in several gas fields in Pakistan is associated with varying percentages of inert gases（e.g.,CO;, N;, and H;S）. The heating capacity of such natural gas is measured in British thermal units（BTU） in Pakistan and is based on the combustion of the natural gases. The study area of this work belongs to the Middle Indus Basin, which also covers some parts of the Sulaiman Foldbelt and the Punjab *** wells drilled in the study area contain inert gases（mostly CO;and N;） in varying percentages,which decreases the BTU value of sweet gases and the economic value of the gas *** were made to analyze the varying compositions of inert gases（mostly CO;and N;） along the deep-seated basement faults in the Zindapir Anticlinorium, eastern Sulaiman Foldbelt, but no specific relation could be established. Similarly, geothermal gradient zones were identified and the distribution of inert gases in these zones was studied, but even so, no well-established relation could be ***, variations in the amounts of inert gases in the Chiltan Limestone of the Rodho Structure and the Afiband Structure point to the generation of in situ inert gases because both wells were drilled on the same anticlinorium and share the same geology, and possibly, the same source rock. Post-accumulation changes probably play an important role in the generation of in situ inert gases in varying concentrations.H;S is also present in some parts of the Indus Basin. Therefore, a brief discussion about the possible origin of the H;S is also included in this paper.

Data centers are being distributed worldwide by cloud service providers(CSPs)to save energy costs through efficient workload alloca-tion *** CSPs are challenged by the significant rise in user demands due to their extensive energy consumption during workload *** research studies have examined distinct operating cost mitigation techniques for geo-distributed data centers(DCs).However,oper-ating cost savings during workload processing,which also considers string-matching techniques in geo-distributed DCs,remains *** this research,we propose a novel string matching-based geographical load balanc-ing(SMGLB)technique to mitigate the operating cost of the geo-distributed *** primary goal of this study is to use a string-matching algorithm(i.e.,Boyer Moore)to compare the contents of incoming workloads to those of documents that have already been processed in a data center.A successful match prevents the global load balancer from sending the user’s request to a data center for processing and displaying the results of the previously processed workload to the user to save *** the contrary,if no match can be discovered,the global load balancer will allocate the incoming workload to a specific DC for processing considering variable energy prices,the number of active servers,on-site green energy,and traces of incoming *** results of numerical evaluations show that the SMGLB can minimize the operating expenses of the geo-distributed data centers more than the existing workload distribution techniques.

Simulation of multiphase boost DC-DC converter with the stable control strategy

The multiphase boost DC-DC converter with stable control strategy is presented. Multi- phase boost DC-DC converter is designed for high voltage and high power applications, and could be achieved by the adjustment of voltage doubler rectifiers on the secondary side of high frequency transformers. The stable control strategy for three phase boost DC-DC converter has been utilized during simulation in this study and this strategy can be extend to N-number of phases. The stable control strategy consists of only three voltage loops, which are sufficient for appropriate and efficient operation of three phase boost DC-DC converter. With the stable control strategy, the equal power balance sharing can be obtained between input and output. The stability of control strategy has been evaluated by simulating the multiphase boost DC-DC converter for the same and mismatch turn ratios of high frequency transformers. The simulation result is good and the objective of the strategy is a- chieved.

Evaluation of sugar and organic acid composition and their levels in highbush blueberries from two regions of China

Sweet and sour are the most important taste of blueberries,and they are produced by sugar and acid,*** contributions to the taste depend not only on the levels of sugar and acid,but also on the types and relative proportions of sugar and ***,it is very important to evaluate the composition and levels of sugar and acid in *** differences and variety diversity also affect the sugar and acid characteristics of ***,this study selected two main producing regions in northern China(Weihai and Yingkou)to examine the sugar and acid characteristics of 11 common blueberry *** indexes measured included soluble sugars,organic acids,soluble solid content and titratable *** results showed that glucose and fructose were the major sugars,and citric acid and quinic acid were the major organic *** analysis showed that glucose,fructose,and sucrose were positively correlated with total sugar content;the citric acid content was positively correlated with the titratable acidity and total organic *** acidity,glucose,fructose,sucrose,total sugar content,citric acid,shikimic acid and total acid content of the blueberries varied significantly between regions(P<0.05).In general,compared with Weihai blueberries,Yingkou blueberries had higher sugar content and lower acid *** results of this study may provide useful references for the evaluation of sweet and sour flavors and cultivar selection of blueberries.

Comparative transcriptome analysis of different nitrogen responses in low-nitrogen sensitive and tolerant maize genotypes

Although previous researches have greatly increased our general knowledge on plant responses to nitrogen(N)stress,a comprehensive understanding of the different responses in crop genotypes is still *** study evaluated 304 maize accessions for low-N tolerance under field conditions,and selected the low-N sensitive Ye478 and low-N tolerant Qi319 for further *** a 5-day low-N treatment,the typical N-deficient phenotype with yellowing older leaves was observed in Ye478 but not in *** the 5-day low-N stress,16 RNA libraries from leaf and root of Ye478 and Qi319 were *** differentially expressed genes(DEGs)in the root of Qi319 up-regulated by special N deficiency were mainly enriched in energy-related metabolic pathways,including tricarboxylic acid metabolic process and nicotinamide metabolic *** with yellowing older leaves only observed in Ye478,the special N deficiency-responsive DEGs related to thylakoid,chloroplast,photosynthetic membrane,and chloroplast stroma pathways were repressed by low-N stress in Ye478.A total of 216 transcription factors(TFs),including ZmNLP5,were identified as special N deficiencyresponsive TFs between Qi319 and Ye478,indicating the importance of transcriptional regulation of N stress-responsive pathway in different tolerance to low-N stress between crop *** addition,15 miRNAs were identified as DEGs between Qi319 and *** together,this study contributes to the understanding of the genetic variations and molecular basis of low-N tolerance in maize.

Flower Pollination Heuristics for Nonlinear Active Noise Control Systems

In this paper,a novel design of the flower pollination algorithm is presented for model identification problems in nonlinear active noise control *** recently introduced flower pollination based heuristics is implemented to minimize the mean squared error based merit/cost function representing the scenarios of active noise control system with linear/nonlinear and primary/secondary paths based on the sinusoidal signal,random and complex random signals as noise *** flower pollination heuristics based active noise controllers are formulated through exploitation of nonlinear filtering with Volterra *** comparative study on statistical observations in terms of accuracy,convergence and complexity measures demonstrates that the proposed meta-heuristic of flower pollination algorithm is reliable,accurate,stable as well as robust for active noise control *** accuracy of the proposed nature inspired computing of flower pollination is in good agreement with the state of the art counterpart solvers based on variants of genetic algorithms,particle swarm optimization,backtracking search optimization algorithm,fireworks optimization algorithm along with their memetic combination with local search ***,the central tendency and variation based statistical indices further validate the consistency and reliability of the proposed scheme mimic the mathematical model for the process of flower pollination systems.
