The techniques to find appropriate new models for data sets are very popular nowadays among the researchers of this area where existed models in the literature are not suitable. In this paper, a new distribution, generalized inverted Kumaraswamy (GIKum) distribution is introduced. The main aims of this research are to develop a general form of inverted Kumaraswamy (IKum) distribution which is flexible than the IKum distribution and all of its related and sub models. Some properties of GIKum distribution such as measures of central tendency and dispersion, models of stress-strength, limiting distributions, characterization of GIKum distribution and related probability distributions through some specific transformations are derived. The mathematical expressions of reliability function (r.f) and the hazard rate function (hrf) of the GIKum distribution are found and presented through their graphs. The parameters estimation through the maximum likelihood (ML) estimation method is used and the results are applied to the data set of prices of wooden toys of 31 children.

Soil salinity badly affects agriculture productivity through accumulation of salts in upper layers of soils. The harmful effects of salts in arable lands have influenced modern as well as ancient civilizations. A pot study was carried out to test the performance of two PGPR isolates (KS 8, KS 28) on sunflower (SMH-0917) under different salinity levels (8, 10 and 12 dS·m-1). These salinity levels were developed by adding calculated amount of salts (NaCl, Na2SO4, CaCl2 and MgSO4) with ratio of 3:4:2:1. The bacterial strains KS 8 and KS 28 were applied separately in two treatments while third treatment was co-inoculation (KS mix). Completely randomized experimental design (CRD) was used and data were collected at flowering stage about pre-decided plant growth parameters (plant height, shoot dry weight and root dry weight). The bacterial isolate KS 8 showed an increase of 26, 102% and 83% in plant height, shoot dry weight and root dry weight at EC 8 dS·m-1, while this improvement was 67%, 163% and 296% at EC 10 dS·m-1, however an increase of 100%, 74% and 382% was recorded over control respectively at EC 12 dS·m-1. Similarly isolate KS 28 exhibited an increase of 14%, 69% and 54% in plant height;shoot dry weight and root dry weight at EC 8 dS·m-1, whereas this improvement was 56%, 163% and 188% at EC 10 dS·m-1, while an increase of 60%, 41% and 282% was registered respectively over control at EC 12 dS·m-1. The increase due to mixture treatments was 4%, 41% and 16% in plant height, shoot dry weight and root dry weight at EC 8 dS·m-1, while an increase of 33%, 57% and 100% at EC 10 dS·m-1, whereas an improvement of 53%, 33% and 164% respectively was noted at EC 12 dS·m-1 over un-inoculated. The isolate KS 8 performed better than KS 28 and mixture treatment. These two PGPR strains could be used to mitigate the adverse impact caused by salinity stress on sunflower.

Secure exchange of information is the basic need of modern digital world of e-communication which is achieved either by encrypting information or by hiding information in other information called cover media. Concealing information requires a well designed technique of Stegnography. This work presents a technique, variable tone variable bits (VTVB) Stegnography, to hide information in a cover image. The VTVB Stegnography hides variable data in discrete cosine transform (DCT) coefficients of the cover image. VTVB Stegnography provides variable data hiding capacity and variable distortion. Additional large data hiding this technique provide extra security due to the large key size making VTVB Stegnography technique much more immune to steganalysis. The hiding makes the existence of information imperceptible for steganalysis and the key of keeping a secret makes the recovering of information difficult for an intruder. The key size is depending on cover image and numbers of bits of discrete cosine transform (DCT) coefficients used for information embedding. This is a very flexible technique and can be used for low payload applications, e.g. watermarking to high payload applications, e.g. network Stegnography.

Imaging department is an important department of a hospital contributing directly to patient care, providing diagnostic support to all specialties which cannot practice efficiently without their support. Hospital administrators are looking for newer tools to control costs without affecting the quality of patient care. It is well known that the escalation of costs for advanced technology has been dramatic and it has been labeled as one of the culprits for great increase in healthcare costs. A prospective study for a period of six months was carried out for calculation of unit cost of radiological investigations CT head, CT chest, CT abdomen and MRI. Unit costs were computed under direct and indirect costs. The actual cost incurred by the hospital on CT head was Rupees 581.40 (US $10.89), CT abdomen Rupees 2339.20 (US $43.83), CT chest Rupees 2339.20 (US $43.83), and MRI Rupees 4497.50 (US $84.28). However, in the hospital patients are charged Rupees 900 (US $16.86) for CT head, Rupees 1200 (US $22.48) for CT abdomen, Rupees 1200 (US $22.48) for CT chest and Rupees 2500 (US $46.85) for MRI. There is a substantial loss of revenue because of subsidies provided to patients in a tertiary care teaching hospital which needs revision of charges.

Are potassium levels in children with hemolytic uremic syndrome predictive of outcome?

Objective: To ascertain the role of serum potassium levels in predicting clinical outcomes in diarrhea-associated hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS D+). Methods: We reviewed clinical and laboratory data from HUS D+ patients at our tertiary care institution from 2001 to 2008. Serum potassium concentration at presentation and during the acute phase of acute renal failure were recorded and related to laboratory parameters and clinical outcomes. Results: 15 HUS D+ cases were identified. E. coli 0157:H7 was found in 9/15 cases (70%). Potassium levels were not predictive of clinical outcomes. Normal serum potassium levels were found in the majority of patients. Potassium levels <3.6 mmol/L were evident at presentation in 3/15 patients (23%), and no patient manifested hyperkalemia even when creatinine levels were concurrently increase. Conclusions: This study suggests the presence of vigorous compensatory mechanisms in the homoestasis of serum potassium levels during HUS D+ disease since neither the increase stool volumes associated with diarrhea nor the presence of renal failure resulted in clinically significant changes in serum potassium levels.

The availability of favorable genetic diversity is a thriving vitality for the success of a breeding *** provides a firm basis of selecting superior breeding lines for the development of high yielding crop *** this context,present investigation aimed to generate information on genetic divergence and character association in a diversity panel of 123 local and exotic soybean *** of variance revealed significant response of the evaluated genotypes based on studied *** depicted the probability of selecting desirable soybean genotypes by focusing on character association studies and genetic diversity *** analysis revealed that seed yield per plant showed high positive correlation with 100-seed weight followed by pods per plant and plant ***,path coefficient analysis exposed that pods per plant had maximum direct contribution in seed yield per plant followed by 100-seed weight,days to flowering and SPAD *** named“G-10”showed maximum yield per plant followed by 24607,G-52,24593,Arisoy,24566,17426,A-3127,24570 and *** diversity analysis grouped the evaluated germplasm into 17 *** clusters showed zero intra-cluster variability;while inter-cluster divergence ranged from 9.00 to *** V showed maximum inter-cluster distance with cluster XII followed by that of between V and ***,cluster IV with superior genotypes(G-10,24607,24593 and 24566),VI(17426 and 24567),XIII(24570)and X(Arisoy and G-52)showed above mean values for most of the studied ***,the results of hybridization between the superior genotypes of these cluster pairs might be useful for soybean breeding with improving agronomic traits and adaptability.

Prevalence of Anemia in Patients with COPD and Its Potential Impact on Morbidity of COPD Patients

Background: Although COPD is traditionally associated with polycythemia, the systemic inflammation that is now recognized as a feature of COPD makes it a possible cause of Anemia of Chronic Disease (ACD). Preliminary evidences suggest that anemia in COPD may be more prevalent than expected occurring in 10% - 15% of patients. While in states like chronic heart failure and renal insufficiency, anemia has been extensively studied;little attention has been given to it in COPD. Objectives: To see the prevalence of anemia in patients with COPD and its potential impact on morbidity of COPD patients. Design and Setting: A university hospital-based cross-sectional study in Kashmir, India. Methods: Two hundred patients (119 males and 81 females) with spirometery documented COPD were evaluated for frequency of anemia. In addition to routine investigations, erythropoietin levels were done in a subgroup of patients. Results: A total of 36 cases (20 males and 16 females) of anemia were detected giving a frequency of 18%. Normocytic normochromic type of anemia was present in 32 (88.89%) patients while the rest had normocytic hypochromic type of anemia. Majority of patients were in GOLD stage 11 and had decreased serum iron, transferrin saturation and TIBC. Erythropoietin levels were significantly raised in anemic COPD patients compared to non-anemic COPD patients. The various factors significantly associated with anemia were: No. of exacerbations of COPD, No. of hospital admissions, BMI and erythropoietin levels. Conclusion: Anemia occurs frequently in patients of COPD and is associated with increased morbidity in the form of No. of exacerbations and hospital admissions. Correcting anemia in these patients may improve their clinical outcome.

Uveitis secondary to Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease is rare in *** the best of our knowledge,this patient is the first reported case of uveitis attributed to VKH in a child in Malaysia.A 9-year-old girl complained of non-resolving painful red eyes bilaterally for 3 *** segment of right eye showed mutton fat keratic precipitates,posterior synechiae and moderate anterior chamber *** segment of left eye revealed mutton fat keratic precipitates,band keratopathy on peripheral 3 and 9 o'clock of the cornea,iris bombe,iris nodule and seclusio *** examination of right eye revealed subretinal deposit at superior and inferior arcades with flat retina while left eye showed hazy *** was then noted to have poliosis and vitiligo after 1 month from initial *** cataract and widespread atrophy of the retinal pigment epithelium accounting for the loss in vision *** case report is to highlight the importance of early recognition of paediatric Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada and treating it aggressively to prevent the irreversible destructive sequalae of the disease.
