The application of extracellular vesicles,particularly exosomes(EXs),is rapidly expanding in the field of medicine,owing to their remarkable properties as natural carriers of biological *** study investigates utilization of exosomes derived from stromal cells of tumor adjacent normal tissues(NAF-EXs)for personalized medicine,which can be derived at the time of diagnosis by endoscopic ***,we show that exosomes(EXs)derived from NAFs demonstrate differential bio-physical characteristics,efficient cellular internalization,drug loading efficiency,pancreatic tumor targeting and delivery of ***-derived EXs(NAF-EXs)were used for loading ormeloxifene(ORM),a potent anti-cancer and desmoplasia inhibitor as a model *** found that ORM maintains normal fibroblast cell phenotype and renders them incompatible to be triggered for a CAF-like phenotype,which may be due to regulation of Ca^(2+) influx in fibroblast ***-EXs-ORM effectively blocked oncogenic signaling pathways involved in desmoplasia and epithelial mesenchymal transition(EMT)and repressed tumor growth in xenograft mouse *** conclusion,our data suggests preferential tropism of NAF-EXs for PDAC tumors,thus imply feasibility of developing a novel personalized medicine for PDAC patients using autologous NAF-EXs for improved therapeutic outcome of anti-cancer ***,it provides the opportunity of utilizing this biological scaffold for effective therapeutics in combination with standard therapeutic regimen.

Evaluation of antiplasmodial properties in 15 selected traditional medicinal plants from India

Objective:The objective of this study was to evaluate the in vitro antiplasmodial properties against malaria parasite in 15 plants mentioned in Indian traditional medicine ***:In vitro antiplasmodial activity of methanolic extracts obtained from Indian traditional medicinal plants was evaluated on Plasmodium falciparum of FCK2 and INDO strains using schizont maturation inhibition assay and parasite lactate dehydrogenase inhibition ***:Methanolic extracts of Adhatoda zeylanica,Embelia ribes,Piper nigrum and Plumbago zeylanica exhibited more than 50%inhibition in both the stains in schizont maturation inhibition *** extracts of seven medicinal plants exhibited antiplasmodial activity at half maximal inhibitory concentration(IC50)<100 mg/m L,and methanolic extracts of five medicinal plants exhibited antiplasmodial activity at IC50<50 mg/m L in *** lactate dehydrogenase(PfLDH)inhibition ***,*** and *** exhibited promising antiplasmodial activity in PfLDH inhibition *** and *** exhibited improved activity against resistant in comparison to sensitive ***:*** and *** were the most promising extracts from this study and deserve further investigation of their antiplasmodial properties.

Sexual plasticity in bony fishes:Analyzing morphological to molecular changes of sex reversal

Sex reversal is one of the characteristic properties of sexual plasticity in bony fishes wherein both natural and induced sex change happens at various stages of life cycle in different *** determination in gonochoristic species is genetically regulated,wherein the same sex is retained throughout their life span whereas hermaphrodites change their sex during development or *** sequential hermaphrodites,serial sex change occurs at different points of life ***,synchronous hermaphrodites function as both the sexes during *** variables like temperature,pH and social factors can trigger sex reversal in *** reversal through gene mutations and chemicals/hormones,including sex steroids,can be induced mostly at early developmental stages but natural sex reversal can occur at any *** reversal mechanism shows morphological to molecular changes,which are ideal for identification of sex-specific gene *** fact,gonadal transdifferentiation occurs at the molecular level through differential expression of transcription factors and steroidogenic enzyme genes vis-a-vis hormones,thereby imparting phenotypic or structural *** addition,brain shows sexual dimorphism which is mostly consequential to gonadal sex development and occasionally either *** major breakthrough in this line is the identification of sex determining genes such as dmy/dmrt1Yb,gsdfY,sox3 in the Japanese medaka and amhY in Patagonian ***,the induction of mono-sex population by favouring one sex due to sex-specific differences in growth is an important economic boom for *** review comprehensively highlights key molecular factors involved in natural and induced sex reversal conditions to illustrate teleostean sexual plasticity and its application perspectives.

Acceptable noise level as a deciding factor for prescribing hearing aids for older adults with cochlear hearing loss-A scoping review

Older adults often find it difficult to perceive speech, especially in noisy conditions. Though hearing aid is one of the rehabilitative devices available to older adults to alleviate hearing loss, some of them may experience annoyance through hearing aid and hence reject it, may be due to circuitry noise and/or background noise. Acceptable noise level is a direct behavioural measure to estimate the extent of how much a person is able to put up with noise while simultaneously listening to speech. Acceptable noise level is a central auditory measure and it is not influenced by age, gender, presentation level or speaker. Using this measure, we can quantify the annoyance level experienced by an individual. This in-formation is of utmost importance and caution should be paid before setting the parameters in hearing aid, especially for those who are unable to accept noise. In this review article, an attempt has been made to document how to optimize the hearing aid program by setting parameters such as noise reduction circuit, microphone sensitivity and gain. These adjustments of parameters might help to reduce rejection rate of hearing aids, especially in those individuals who are annoyed by background noise. Copyright ? 2015 The Authors. Confluence of ZnO and PTFE Binder for Enhancing Performance of Thin-Film Lithium-Ion Batteries

Developing anode materials with high specific capacity and cycling stability is vital for improving thin-film lithium-ion ***-film zinc oxide(ZnO)holds promise due to its high specific capacity,but it suffers from volume changes and structural stress during cycling,leading to poor battery *** this research,we ingeniously combined polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE)with ZnO using a radio frequency(RF)magnetron co-sputtering method,ensuring a strong bond in the thin-film composite *** effectively reduced stress on the active material and mitigated volume change effects during Li^(+)ion intercalation and *** composite thin films are thoroughly characterized using advanced techniques such as X-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy,and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy for investigating correlations between material properties and electrochemical ***,the ZnO/PTFE thin-film electrode demonstrated an impressive specific capacity of 1305 mAh g^(-1)(=7116 mAh cm^(-3))at a 0.5C rate and a remarkable capacity retention of 82%from the 1st to the 100th cycle,surpassing the bare ZnO thin film(50%).This study provides valuable insights into using binders to stabilize active materials in thin-film batteries,enhancing battery performance.

Objective:Clitoria ternatea is a well-known bioactive plant used to treat several inflammatory ailments in Ayurvedic system of medicine in *** present investigation aimed to determine the antiinflammatory and anti-arthritic activity of ethanolic extract of Clitoria ternatea roots(EECT) in animal ***:The anti-inflammatory activity of the EECT was evaluated by carrageenan and histamineinduced paw ***:EECT showed a significant reduction in mean paw edema volume in both carrageenan and histamine-induced *** efficacy of EECT in rheumatoid arthritis was tested against Freund's complete adjuvant(CFA) induced arthritic model in Wistar *** anti-arthritic effect of EECT was determined by systematic scoring of arthritis symptoms and measuring paw edema.A considerable decrease in paw diameter was observed in the EECT(200 and 400 mg/kg) and diclofenac(10 mg/kg) treated groups after day ***(10 mg/kg) and EECT(400 mg/kg) showed a significant reduction in paw diameter from day 14 compared with CFA control(P <0.001).The anti-arthritic activity was also confirmed from the altered biochemical,haematological(Hb,RBC and WBC) and anti-oxidant parameters(SOD,MDA,CAT,and GSH).EECT(400 and 200 mg/kg) also showed a marked inhibition of joint ***:This study provides a pharmacological rationale for the traditional use of *** against inflammation and rheumatoid arthritis in India.
